Shetland Sheepdog Club of Northern California Minutes of the General Meeting September 12, 2015 Location: Solano County Fairgrounds (Vallejo) at the Sir Francis Drake Kennel Club Show. The meeting was called to order by President Yvonne Samuelson at 4:05 pm. The following members were present: Ann Balliet Linda Holland Roxayn King Bonny Silva Michelle Hughes Patricia Rozenoff The following board members were present: Yvonne Samuelson Rebecca Logsdon We did not have any guests: Last Month s Minutes: No report. President s Report: Yvonne passed around the list of open committee positions. She has added a few more jobs to the list since the last meeting. Most of the jobs are simple and don t require a lot of work. Some of the committees include: Education (to give Johanna ideas), Ways and Means (raffles), Show Chair Assistant, Flyers (we need someone to type up flyers for the Holiday Party, the Match, educational seminars, etc.). The more people help, the less there is to do for everyone. [See the attached list of available positions] Correspondence: No report Treasurer: Donna Shade had to pull out of the Audit Committee due to medical issues. Bonny Silva will replace Donna on the Committee (the other Committee members are Linda Holland and Kathy Coon). Membership: No report. Breeders Referral: No report. Trophies: The trophy lists for the October 2015 and February 2016 Specialties were circulated at the meeting. There aren t many trophies for February because it is a designated specialty. Special Awards: Yvonne said that she is trying to get Johanna to contact Larry Obermiller regarding the trophies. Ann Baillet said that she has paid for and received the new Best of Breed Challenge trophy. We need the applications for award plaques to be turned in by the Specialty so that Johanna can get the applications to Larry by November 1 st. We are not going to allow late applications anymore if you miss the deadline, you will need to wait until next year. Ann asked if we have a list of Challenge Trophies, so we know what is available. Rebecca said that she will try to get a list of Conformation and Performance Challenge trophies so that they can be included with the minutes.

Ways and Means: Yvonne said that we need someone to organize the raffle at the Holiday Party. Unfinished Business: Constitution, Bylaws & Code of Ethics: Yvonne said that we need to get the Constitution, the Bylaws and the Code of Ethics on the website. We probably should go back to the original documents before we made changes (which the AKC rejected). Roxayn King said that she has been waiting for Kathy Rosdail to send her the SSCNC Constitution and Bylaws so that she can transcribe them. She will email a reminder to Kathy. Linda Holland and Rebecca Logsdon said that the other Clubs they belong to use Standing Rules whenever an update or change needs to be done to the Bylaws. This eliminates the need to amend the Bylaws themselves and the Standing Rules don t need to be sent to the AKC. Linda said that the Bylaws just needs to be a standard document covering the basics (probably just use the Bylaws recommended by the AKC). The rules governing the specific operation of the Club would be put in the Standing Rules. A sentence in the Bylaws would refer to the Standing Rules. Holiday Party: o o o o The Holiday Party takes places Saturday, December 5 th at Cattlemen s Restaurant in Livermore. Cattlemen s is more centrally placed than our more recent party locations, so we hope to get a wider range of members from different parts of Northern California attending. Anne asked about having a party in the evening. Yvonne said that evening parties are much more expensive. If members want to have a future Holiday Party in the evening, they must be prepared to pay a lot more to attend. The Club won t be able to subsidize. Yvonne said that we need to schedule our Holiday Parties much more quickly in the future. She knows Clubs which start to book parties for the next year as soon as the current party is over. We always start too late, so we miss out on a lot of locations (one reason why we really need someone to take charge of the Holiday Party). We need at least 2 or 3 choices for a Holiday Party location as soon as possible so the members can vote on it in February. New Business: Email Addresses of Guests: Rebecca suggested that we get the email addresses of all the guests who attend our meetings so we can send notices of the next meetings to them. It is often very difficult for potential new applicants to get their 3 meetings in because they don t know where and when the meetings are. Maybe Anita can send the emails to the potential members? Good of the Order: None. Next Meetings: October 17 th after the SSCNC Specialty at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. November 21 or 22 at one of the Turkey Circuit Shows. December 5 th at the Holiday Party at Cattlemen s in Livermore Adjourned: 4:35 pm Submitted by: Rebecca Logsdon, SSCNC Secretary Shetland Sheepdog Club of Northern California
