I ll draw a lot of monsters when I m bored. I can get weirder than a dog and cat mating and the dog has kittens. When I m happy I m probably be playing with my brother, playing MINECRAFT, or I m Andrew G R A D E 3 - M R S. B L A N D I m at the shore. My brother will make me laugh SO hard I will cry. Some day I m going to die laughing. Sometimes I ll play MINCRAFT for an hour just to make a giant nether beast with a digestive system. The specials thing at the shore is the bay and the hammock. Penguin Research 3 My Random Weekend Rocks and Minerals Don t Waste Water The Lost Dog Fly Eagle, Fly 4 5 6 7 This weekend was much like any other weekend. First, I rode in my Dad s Camero. His Camaro is really fast and you can take some of the top off. When that does happen you feel like you re on a rollercoaster. Next, we went Dunken Donuts for breakfast. We had it at like 10:00am, but the good news was we went to Dunken Donuts. I was starving when we ate, so I had a doughnut and six munchkins. My brother T.J. ate half of my donut because he didn t get any munchkins. After that, I went to Lowe Dance Studio to watch Home. I brought a comic book to read while I was waiting. My brother s friend was there too. My sister helped clean up so I read. Then, I went to a festival. I found two people from camp this summer there. I was in the moon bounce most of the time wrestling. Finally I went to a barbecue. While we were there we played hide-n-seek We had the winning team. Well we cheated found someone. Last I went to bed.

P A G E 2 Plants Plants are amazing organisms! Organisms are living things. What plants need to survive is the sun, minerals, water, and air. Plants have parts. The roots, the stem, and the leaves. Each part has a job. The roots are the part of the plant that grows underground. They help hold the plant in the ground. They have a very important job. They take in water and minerals from the soil. They deliver the water and minerals to the stem. The stem is the part of the plant that helps the plant stand up right. It also carries water and minerals from the roots to survive. It brings food from leaves to other parts of the plant. The stem supports the plant. The last part of a plant is the leaves. They are the main food making part of a plant. They use the sun s energy, carbon dioxide, and water to make food. They also have chlorophyll witch traps energy from the sunlight. They use a gas from the air called carbon dioxide. A simple way of saying some of this is they take in sunlight. The parts of a plant are very important. Without the parts of a plant the plant would not be able to survive. Dogs Rule Cats or Dogs, The question answer is Dogs! There are many reasons dogs are the best. The reasons I think most important is friendship, training, and listening. Friendship is a dog s first priority. When I get from school my dog Bosley usually goes crazy. The same thing happens when anyone comes home. Although sometimes gets annoying he s still my puppy, and according to the article dogs help make friends. That is true. Life Cycle Training a dog may be difficult, but in the end they can sit, stay, and shake hands. In the 3 years I ve had Bosley I learned dogs come from eating Lego's in the living to sleeping with my mom upstairs. Plus in the article it states dogs can save or help by being trained to sniff bombs and drugs. Dogs will listen. My Dad can make Bosley stay, sit, jump on him, shake his hand, and get in his crate in a snap. The rest of my family can do that to. Sometimes it takes a long time to do that, but again in the end it s great Sometimes people like cats more than dogs, but if you think about it dogs are amazing. I think the best dogs have friendship, are easy to train, and will listen. Dogs have more friendship then cats. They can be trained to save lives. Finally they can and the will listen. The years I ve had Bosley were the best years of my life. Everything has a life cycle. During the life cycle you go through birth, growth and change, reproduction, and death. Birth is when the infant is born. You ve gotten taller. You re going through growth and change. As you think you grow and change. Your baby is born. This is when you re going through reproduction. When you or your mate is having a baby. And finally death. This is sadly when the body brakes down and dies. These are the stages of your life. T H E R I C K E Y N E W S

Penguin Research There are 17 species of penguins. All live in the southern hemisphere. Some are big. Some are small. You can tell all of them apart by special characteristics. Some penguins are Emperor penguins, King Penguins, Gentoo penguins, Adelie penguins, Chinstrap penguins and many more. Emperor penguins are the tallest penguins. They are nearly 4 FT tall and weigh 90 pounds. They live in Antarctica. You can tell them apart from other penguins by finding the orange glow on their cheek. They re also unique because they lay one egg at a time not 2. King penguins are the 2 nd tallest penguins. They are about 3 FT tall and up to 36 pounds. The King penguins habitat is Sub-Antarctica islands. When an adult King penguin is old they have orange spots on their head and close to their neck. About a year after birth, the chick gets brown fuzzy feathers. The Gentoo penguin lives in the islands of Antarctica regions. They have wide white stripes over the top of their head. The Gentoo penguin is about 3 FT tall and weighs 13 pounds. They make nest out of grass and sticks. Adelie penguins were named after a French explorer. They are about 2 FT. That s small! And weighs 8 or 9 pounds. Adelie penguin s habitat is Antarctica. They have a black head with white ring around their eye. Chinstrap penguin why the name. They have a small black band around their neck. The Chinstrap penguins habitat is Antarctica regions. They are about 10 pounds and about 2 FT. This is interesting. The population of these penguins is oddly 13million. Here we have the Magellanic penguin. These penguins are the largest warm weathered penguins. They weigh 9 pounds and 3 inches to 2 feet. They live in south America. The Magellanic penguin was also named after a French explorer. P A G E 3

P A G E 4 How to Draw a Monster The things you can draw are endless, but today we re going to learn how to draw a Monster A.K.A. (Mutant Unicorn). It looks cooler than it sounds ok. All you need is a pencil, paper, eraser, and a good imagination. It s a little hard to draw a Mutant Unicorn unless you follow these steps. First, draw 2 big Cs with one on top of the other and connect with 2 lines. The Cs should take up a 5 th of the paper. Then, draw a tiny oval or circle on top. Next, draw a circle or oval inside he circle and fill it in. After that, draw big sharp teeth on the bottom and the top, but make sure the teeth aren t too big though. Next, draw 2 lines connected to the 2 Cs for the neck. The line should be as big as your eraser. Then, draw a big circle connected to the neck. Next, draw 2 legs with sharp claws. Add a floppy tail next. The tail should be pinky size. Finally, draw Vs all over the body for scales. And to top it all of add a unicorn horn with stripes. Now that you know how to draw a Mutant Unicorn try adding extra things like more Unicorn horns. The list goes on and on. Don t be afraid to add new things. Now have fun. Rocks and Minerals What are minerals? Well minerals are the building blocks of rocks, so rocks are made of minerals. Rocks aren t living things. There are 3 types of rocks Igneos, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic Rocks. Igneos Rocks are fire made rocks. Volcanoes erupt then form these rocks. Inside the Earth these rocks cool very slowly, and when these rocks are on the surface they cool quickly. These are examples of Igneos rocks granite and basalt. The next rock is a Sedimentary rock. This rock is formed when mud, pebbles, and sand are pressed together by the pressure of a river, a lake, or even the ocean. After a long time the materials to make a Sedimentary rock cement together to form a Sedimentary rock. Examples of Sedimentary rocks are sandstone, shale, and siltstone. Now for the finale rock the.. Metamorphic Rock. This rock is formed when other rocks go through squeezing and heating, until it makes a solid new rock called a metamorphic rock. Some Metamorphic rocks are marble and gneiss. These are the 3 types of rocks. There are many more rocks in the world that fit into the 3 categories. Each with something unique. T H E R I C K E Y N E W S

P A G E 5 Don t Waste Water Did you know that all animals need water to live? If you do know that you most likely know how to conserve water. Conserve means use less or wisely. Some ways to conserve water are taking a shower not bath, and use only what you need. Remember when took a bath where probably 1-3, well you wasted an estimate of 40,515 gallons of water. The way I know this is because the article says (about 37 gallons of water a bath) and 365 days of the year x 3 years of taking a bath = 1,095 days of bath time, then 1,095 days x 37 gallons = 40,515 gallons per person. That s a lot of water. To prevent that from happening take short showers which are 20 gallons of water, or an estimate of 7,300 gallons per year? If you ve ever gone to get a glass of water then poured it out, you were wasting something you need to live. Only use water when you need it, not when you want it. In better words use water when you need it. Although sometimes I take long showers or pour my water, when I do it could save lives. Remember you need water to live. So make a difference. If I can you can. Now spread the word. Hope you save Earth. Fly Eagle, Fly The story Fly Eagle, Fly is an African folk tale. In the beginning the farmer was trying to find a calf because of a bad storm. When looking he found a baby eagle. In the middle the farmer took the baby eagle home, and trained it to be a chicken. The farmer s friend tried to convince the farmer and his children that the chicken was an eagle. In the end the farmer s friend woke the farmer up and said Give me one more chance. The farmer s friend took the eagle and farmer up to the mountain to make the eagle fly. The eaglefinally flew. The Lost Dog The Lost Dog is about a boy who lost his dog. In the beginning Alan invited Buddy the dog and his owner Sam for the weekend at the cabin. When they went on a walk Buddy saw a rabbit and chased it. Sam and Alan couldn t find Buddy, so they asked Mr. Hall to help but still they couldn t find him. Next Alan and Sam had to go home. While they were going home Sam Thought Maybe if I throw a little piece of clothing out the window Buddy will sniff the scent and find his way home. When he went home Sam s Mom promised to go back if no one finds him. In the end Sam, His Mom, and Mr. Haul couldn t find him still A few mornings later Sam was woken up by his dog Buddy, and they lived happily ever after.
