There is nothing more exciting than a dog show at the Orlando Fairgrounds. Three days of off and on heavy downpours, stuck in an RV with 4 dogs! Four very bored and very loud, noisy terriers. My ears are still ringing. Talk about 'RV Fever!' I can't begin to imagine how the people with a large number of dogs can stand it! Aye! Aye! Aye! And if that wasn't enough, try driving on I-4 through windy, pouring, torrential rain! UGH! I hate it! It was a very strange and nail biting weekend and I do hope that everyone arrived home safely and no one suffered any damage to their house or property. So I guess we can assume or presume that the drought is finally over? I am writing this on my I-Pad in the dark because for the second time today we have lost power. Hopefully tomorrow I'll remember to proofread this and correct all my errors and the errors of spell check. After being house bound for a few weeks and not going to any shows because of the puppies, it was so nice to get out and see so many friends and chit chat with everyone around the rings as they waited to show their dogs. And even more exciting is seeing FIVE of our members in the Terrier Group! WOW that was so impressive. A big congratulations to Kellie Dahlberg, Gina Cobussen, Fred Adams, Randy Limitone and Jim Omodio on their breed wins. And a huge round of applause to Kellie and Gina on their group placements! I wonder how many other clubs can say that about their members! Speaks very highly of the dogs, the owners and handlers. Great job everyone and so very proud of our Terrier Members! I'm not sure what has been happening with our meetings. It seems the attendance is dwindling every month. I don't know if this is due to the summer months and vacations or everyone is just to busy to attend! I realize that the meetings can become very redundant but they are necessary to accomplish the many tasks that are facing us this fall. And we can only approve and solve problems when there is Continued on Page 3

Around the Ring Australian Terriers Owner Kim Floyd UKC Awards UWPCH, UWPV, USR GRCH Akiba s Southern Exposure (Moonie) placed 7 th in overall Top Ten UKC dogs for 2011. He goes on to place 3 rd in the Total Dog Terrier Group. June 16, Kalamazoo, MI. Kambara s Santivo (Tivo) BOB on Sunday and made the judge s cut in the Terrier Group Junior Handler, Christina Best Junior Handler on Sunday with Moonie For those that are unfamiliar with this event here is a little explanation. Every year UKC invites the top ten dogs in each breed to compete for the top ten overall dogs in UKC. The dogs compete at the breed level and BOB advances to a random group competition. 4 dogs from each of 5 random groups are chosen to advance to the finals. At the final judging, 3 judges individually judge each dog. Scores are tabulated to determine the Top Ten UKC Dogs for the Previous year. Moonie was the only terrier to advance to the finals. The total dog award is given to a dog that wins Best Male/Female, Best of Winners, or Best of Breed over competition in conformation AND earns a qualifying score in a performance event on the same day. At the Premiere shows each year, all Total Dog Qualifiers are judged in their respective groups and then advance to a Total Dog Best In Show. Booker had qualifying runs in Terrier Races with competition and placed Best Male over competition to qualify for Total Dog. AKC Award June 23 Orlando, FL Kambara s Santivo WD for 2 points and finished his AKC Championship. Border Terrier Owners: Coldstream Border Terriers, Rob and Gina Cobussen Gch Ristle Alley Hoop at Coldstream (Alley) won #1 Award of Merit @ the Border Terrier Specialty in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Continued from Page 1 a quorum present. Plus the meetings can be fun and interesting. Just a reminder. There is still time to get your donations in for the breed trophies. It would be nice to have as many breeds as possible represented by donating to the Paws For Patriots Program and our Veteran Days Shows. Also, don't forget the annual hurricane party at Ellen Axelrod's house on August 4th. Get out the goodies and come join as for some fun! Maybe we should have had it this past weekend. See you next month and have a safe and happy summer. Reatha

From the AKC - Date: June 5, 2012 To: Earthdog Clubs The Performance Events Department would like to make all Earthdog Clubs aware of two recent changes to the Regulations. (1) Allowing Dogs to Enter the Junior Level Test. The Regulations regarding the qualifications for a dog to enter the Junior class (Chapter 3, Section 3) have been changed to provide owners greater flexibility. Previously dogs that have received one qualifying score in the Senior test were not allowed to enter the Junior class until they had earned a Master title. Effective September 1, 2012 this has been changed to allow any dog, even those that have passed a higher level test, to enter the Junior class. The current and new language is as follows: Current Section 3. Junior Earthdog Class and Title (JE). The Junior Earthdog class is open to all eligible breeds of dogs (see Chapter 1, Section 6) that have not been recorded as or received qualifying scores in Senior Earthdog or Master Earthdog. Except that dogs which have earned a Master Earthdog title may enter the Junior Earthdog Class. In order to be recorded as a Junior Earthdog, a dog must be registered with the AKC and must have a record of having qualified in the Junior Earthdog test in two (2) licensed or member club tests under two different judges. Upon completion of these requirements, an AKC Junior Earthdog (JE) certificate will be issued to the owner and the dog shall be identified as a Junior Earthdog in all official AKC records by the suffix title JE. A dog that has been recorded as a Junior Earthdog may continue to enter the Junior Earthdog test but no further Junior Earthdog certificates will be issued. A Junior Earthdog is no longer eligible to enter the Junior Earthdog class after the dog has acquired a Senior Earthdog qualifying score and until that dog is awarded a Master Earthdog title. New Effective September 1, 2012 Section 3. Junior Earthdog Class and Title (JE). The Junior Earthdog class is open to all eligible breeds of dogs (see Chapter 1, Section 6). In order to be recorded as a Junior Earthdog, a dog must be registered with the AKC and must have a record of having qualified in the Junior Earthdog test in two (2) licensed or member club events under two different judges. (2) Yorkshire Terriers. Please welcome the Yorkshire Terrier to the sport. Yorkies will be eligible to participate in Earthdog events starting August 1, 2012. Should you have any questions or comments, please e-mail earthdog@akc.org.

From the Corresponding Secretary Ellen Axelrod Meeting Notice The next general meeting will be held during the annual banquet on Monday July 16th at 7:30 pm at the East Bay Animal Hospital, 3445-A East Bay Drive in Largo. The next board meeting will be held on Monday, July 9th at 7:30 pm at Sweet Tomatoes on South Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. PROGRAM NOTE DOGSTEPS: What to Look For In A Dog. There are two parts to the challenge. 1. They are challenging us to secure at least $100 from our club members for the AKC Political Action Committee. Even a small donation to the AKC PAC offers club members the opportunity to financially support candidates who will protect our rights. You may send your donations in to Jim Omodio (Treasurer) and he will forward the total to the AKC. 2. They further challenge our club to contribute at least $150 to the AKC Canine Legislation Support Fund. (CLSF) All money contributed to this fund helps defray the AKC s costs in supporting legislation, securing formal representation in Congress and statehouses, and educating legislators and the public about responsible and fair policies for dog breeding and ownership. Contributions to the CLSF may come from our treasury. We will need a vote on this part, so come to the meeting and vote! Reatha
