Almost Home Dog Rescue Inc SUMMARY Mission Almost Home Dog Rescue, Inc. exists to rescue abandoned/unwanted dogs, primarily Jack Russell and other small terriers, that would otherwise be euthanized or live a life of privation on the street. We transport them to shelter in an approved foster home, provide food and veterinary care as needed (including spay/neuter, heartworm test, all necessary vaccinations and microchip), and maintain a website and telephone to facilitate adoptions and raise community awareness. BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement Since our inception, Almost Home Dog Rescue Inc. has played a part in the successful adoption of over one thousand dogs. In the past year, we have assisted in the distribution of food donations to several area rescues, the Manatee County Humane Society, and Manatee County Animal Services. We have participated in numerous adoption events in order to seek qualified adopters, recruit fosters and volunteers, and raise community awareness. Through our social media efforts, we continually strive to educate people in the areas of pet health, nutrition, natural versus pharmaceutical medications, the necessity to spay/neuter, and other areas relative to responsible dog ownership. We hope to continue and expand those efforts in the upcoming year. Needs Statement 1) Repair, replace and upgrade/expand fencing for primary foster location. Existing chain link is broken in places, sagging in places, and the existing automatic gate no longer works. Additionally, we need to expand the current cross-fencing to create more runs where dogs can have extended periods outside...terriers usually need to be segregated into groups that do well together. $3500 2 )Upgrade outdoor lighting. We have several senior dogs with failing eyesight at any given time. Also, we are located in a rural area with many types of wildlife, including coyotes, bobcats and pygmy rattlesnakes. For the safety of the dogs, as well as ourselves, adequate lighting is a very pressing need. $1500 3) Food/veterinary. As a small rescue of foster homes, we are always operating on a very small margin. We assist all of our fosters with food and cover all veterinary expenses, and at any given time have 12-20 dogs at our primary foster location, so dog food is an ongoing pressing need. Any donation amount for that purpose is welcome; a $500-$1000 donation would be a life-saver. $500 4 )Computer. Our current computer used for the rescue is almost worn out. A new all-in-one desktop or a new laptop is soon going to be a major priority. $500 5) Offset fuel costs. We spend several hundred dollars/month for transport...any donation earmarked for transportation costs would be most welcome. $100 Background Statement MaryLu Kinlaw has rescued animals in need for virtually her entire life. After saving a homeless JRT in NC in 1994, she fell in love with the breed. She worked informally with several rescues in the Carolinas from 1995 until 2000, when she relocated to Florida. She worked with several rescues statewide in a volunteer capacity until 2003 (fostering, transporting, etc.) and worked as a volunteer for the state of Florida for Russell Rescue, Inc. from approximately 2003-2007. After being repeatedly encouraged to start her own rescue specializing in Jack Russell Terriers, she founded Almost Home Dog Rescue, Inc. Articles of Incorporation were filed on December 29, 2008, with the first annual report filed on June 26, 2009. Almost Home Dog Rescue, Inc. received 501(c)3 status from the IRS on February 3, 2010 with an effective date of exemption of December 29, 2008. To date Almost Home Dog Rescue has successfully re-homed over 1,000 dogs, most of which are Jack Russell Terriers from Manatee, Sarasota, and surrounding counties. Statement from the Board Chair MANNY'S MISSION: THE REASON WE RESCUEWords can't say how much we miss you Manny, but we know we will see you again. That day in 1994 when you came out of the woods begging for help, dirty and starving, and jumped in my lap, you caused a ripple effect that reaches far beyond that day in the Outer Banks of NC. For us you were the beginning of saving many Jack Russell Terriers. You were the first of the long line of abandoned, cast off, unwanted little JRT's. We will never be able to thank you enough for all you brought to our lives and to the lives of the many little terriers that have passed through our home on their way to their forever homes. We could have never been able to imagine the joy you gave us. Thank You, God for sending this LITTLE MAN to live with us. We will try to live up to the standard of loyalty and love that he brought to us. Until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge...MaryLu and Alex Kinlaw. 3

PROGRAMS Almost Home Dog Rescue Foster Recruitment and Orientation Program Description Almost Home Dog Rescue Foster Recruitment and Orientation Program provides potential fosters with the requirements, expectations and training necessary to become an approved foster home in our organization. In addition to proper care and feeding, socialization and behavior modification are necessary for these dogs, many of whom were abused, neglected and/or abandoned, to actually become adoptable pets. They must learn to trust, be made aware that the human is the "pack leader" and often must be taught good "citizenship" (potty outside, use "inside" voices, play well with others, etc.) by the foster they are living with. This adjustment period from their former life is crucial to their success or failure in their new environment. Our orientation process assures that this critical element is not overlooked. Budget $500.00 Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Animal-Related, General/Other Animal Protection & Welfare Yes Adults Aging, Elderly, Senior Citizens Families We have no facility or paid staff, but are a series of foster homes. As such, each foster is indispensable to the success of the program. Every approved foster home allows us to save one or more dogs from certain death at a kill shelter. Short term success is measured by the number of active, approved foster homes that are housing rescue dogs, helping them transition into healthy, adoptable pets, and the number of dogs we are able to save. On an annual basis, given our size and finances, we hope to save and re-home at least fifty dogs through our rescue alone. (This number does not take into account the dogs we play a part in saving through transporting, cross-posting, courtesy listing, etc.) To date, we have only fallen short of that number once (in our first full year of 2009). Every year since, including this year, we have exceeded that number by a range of 2% to 28%. Long term success is measured by the number of dogs successfully rehomed without incident or return. Our adoption procedures are strict, and include an assessment of the adoption environment (secure home, small children, other pets, fenced yard, pool/other body of water, etc.) We diligently try to match each dog to the home that offers them the best chance to succeed. Every time that we are able to accomplish this, not only are the lives of the dog and the adopter(s) changed for the better. Everyone at the rescue has a sense of pride and fulfillment in each adoption...particularly the fosters. Further, every dog we rescue lightens the load of Animal Services in that particular jurisdiction, and the community at large benefits from removing these unwanted animals from the streets and putting them in loving homes. 5

Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples We monitor success of the program through adoption return rates and the number of active, approved fosters. For 2015, our adoption return rate is 3%; since its inception, the program's overall adoption return rate is just under 2%. We are very proud of these rates as an indisputable indicator that our process is sound. We also have 16 currently active foster homes helping us continue this important work that we are all so passionate about. We have far too many examples to enumerate here. Our website features a page called "Happy Tails" where successful adoptions are celebrated. On our facebook page, visitors are able to review the rescue (currently 4.8 out of five stars), as well as post comments. One recent post is fairly typical:"marylu and this rescue are awesome. They were able to pull a blind 13 year old jrt in the nick of time and we were able to adopt her. The rescue made everything so easy and the girl we renamed Justice is thriving in our home. She's getting lots of love and it's sad to think how close she came to not living her last days in a home." Deborah Vian, Fort Wayne, INThis particular dog was rescued from a kill shelter in West Palm Beach and adopted to a family in Indiana (after our screening process, which includes a home visit from a volunteer in the area). Most of our rescues, however, are from Manatee, Sarasota and the surrounding counties in Florida. 6
