Shetland Sheepdog Club of Northern California Minutes of the General Meeting May 19, 2018 Location: Coyote Hills KC Show at the Solano County Fairgrounds, Vallejo. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Halina Christie at 12:50 pm. The following members were present: Yvonne Samuelson Lynn Azzopardi Amber Friesen Brandi Friesen Cindy Frusetta Linda Bianco The following board members were present: Halina Christie Scott Zamvil Kathy Coon Rebecca Logsdon Trudy Kerr Kathy Rosdail Mark Hersman We had the following guests: Dottie Adkins Minutes: One correction to the minutes: When the ballots are mailed out, they are sent to all members. Trudy sorts out the returned ballots that come from members of good standing. A HUGE Thank you to Patsi Nelson for taking the minutes at the April meeting. She did a terrific job. President s Report: No report. Correspondence: Trudy said that we received the following correspondence from the AKC: An email regarding changes (Trudy just got this - she will look at it later). A letter regarding our upcoming elections, reminding us that we need to send in the new list of Club officers to the AKC. Halina said that it is important to get this list to the AKC as soon after the vote as possible they won t approve the October Specialty until they get it. Treasurer: Kathy R. said that we lost money on the February Specialty. There weren t enough trophy donations and our entries were lower, plus we had to rent the rubber matting and hire a crew. You can still pay dues up to May 31 st. Taxes have been filed.

October 2018 Specialty: Janet Hitt has agreed to judge Juniors at the October Specialty. We need to do her contract. Our judges for October are: o Dale Root (Sweeps) o Susan Keleher (Conformation) o Janet Hitt (Juniors) o Nancy Craig (Obedience & Rally) Halina said Rally will include two new classes Masters and Intermediate. Kathy R. will do Hospitality. Please sign up for trophies! February 2019 Specialties: We have a volunteer for Show Chair for Day #1 of the February 2019 Specialties Yvonne Samuelson. Thanks Yvonne! We still need a volunteer for Show Chair for Day #2 of the February 2019 Specialties. The Day #2 Show Chair could be Yvonne s assistant on Day #1. Kathy R. made a comprehensive manual of the Show Chair duties. It demystifies the position showing what needs to be done and when. She gave the binder to Yvonne. Ideally, the binder should be passed on down to each new Show Chair. She encourages everyone who gets the binder to include notes and observations. She also made a manual for the Obedience Show Chair. Kathy R. spoke to Maggie Peat of Santa Clara Valley KC. The two February shows will be concurrent Specialties (like we have at Del Valle). The shows will probably start around 1-ish. For conformation, this means 4 shows in 2 days. There will be Obedience on both Saturday and Sunday. This means that Obedience competitors will have five shows that weekend (including the SCVKC shows). Kathy R. suggested having a potluck after the show. It can take the place of the judges dinner. We need a volunteer for Day #2 Show Chair by June or we will need to cancel the Sunday show. Trophies: The trophy signup sheets for October and February were both passed around to the membership. Cindy said that she got ahold of a lady who does reasonably priced, intricate metalwork. Paul Flores donated a set of handmade stone pottery from the Pacific Northwest. They are very nice. We will break up the set for each trophy. Cindy suggested 2 separate donations for the Saturday and Sunday February Specialties. Ribbons: Kathy R. gave Mark the list of ribbons for October. Agility Trial: The big SSCNC agility trial is coming up. It takes place at Manzanita Park in conjunction with the Bay Team s USDAA trial. Sharing costs with the Bay Team has worked out to our benefit. Membership: No report (Patsi is judging at an agility trial). Breeder Referral: No report. Ways and Means: No report. Special Awards: No report.

Education: Halina talked to Johanna this morning. We are pretty much set to have a 2-day handling seminar by Rose Chandless in September. We need to get out flyers soon. We also need to reserve Happiness Kennel. The dates are September 22 23. Puppy Picnic: The Puppy Picnic takes place June 16 th at the park in Niles. Lynn said that John Strassner will not be able to do the Nose Work seminar. Something came up. She has adjusted the flyer accordingly. Match: The Match takes place in August at Nile Community Park. The spot has been reserved. Mark and Kathy C. are judges. Harriet Tucker is the Obedience/Rally judge. Since this is a Sanctioned B-Match, we need AKC approval before we can advertise. Bulletin: Rebecca thanked everyone who sent in contributions recently. There were a lot of great submissions for the May Bulletin. Website: We are still looking for an IT person. The website desperately needs an update. Plus, we would like to have the ability to do online entries. If there are no volunteers from the Club, we will hire Patsi and Scott s son-in-law Michael. Nominating Committee: The slate of 2018-2019 officers and board members will be voted on during the June meeting. There were no nominations from the floor. Accordingly, this is the full slate for the SSCNC officers and board members for 2018 2019: President Vice President Treasurer Corresponding Secretary Recording Secretary Sergeant at Arms Director Director Director Director Johanna Primeaux Halina Christie Kathy Rosdail Trudy Kerr Rebecca Logsdon Tom True Mark Hersman Anita Rasmussen Kathy Coon Patsi Nelson Old Business: No report. New Business: Voting on Judges: Yvonne said that there was a vote on judges at the April meeting. She didn t know about it, even though she is a member of the judges committee. When we are going to vote for judges, we should publicize it in the prior month s bulletin. Good of the Order: No report. Next Meetings: June 16 The Puppy Picnic
