By Marla Belzowski YABTC Newsletter Editor As June rolls in, YABTC celebrates a very successful 1 st year in our building. While we moved in for our March Puppy match in 2014, we formally dedicated the building on June 15, 2014. So if you see Mike Coats Jr at our summer Agility shows, remember to thank him for his time and dedication to helping us design, build and finish our beautiful new building. Brags, Brags, Brags. e-mail your News Stories too us! Newsletter@yabtc.com or LegendHold@johnwstown.net New Members! L to R = Brett Sprout, Susan Sprout, Karen Coursen, Pamela Baker, and Nancy Starkey! The trials usually last from 8 A.M. until around 4 P.M. depending on the number of entries. During the trials at the Well, there is a class going on in each of the two rings. Approximately eight workers are needed for each ring in addition to 2-4 people to work at the scoring table. There are 3-4 classes in each ring per day. Workers are also needed to build courses for each of the three levels in each class. There can be as many as 660 total runs per day. As you can see, it takes a lot of man (and woman) power to run each trial smoothly. The effort is well worth it as each trial usually nets approximately $8,000-$10,000. These help to fund our monthly mortgage payment of $3,918 for our spacious, new building. Our utilities are around $1,000 per month. The cost of the insurance is more than the old building, also. Other sources of income for the club are membership dues, class fees and obedience and rally trials. At our trials the workers schedule is always very sparse. We are always short of workers who have committed ahead of time for the various jobs. Therefore, our worker herder, WELCOME! Volunteers Needed! June Agility Trial is coming! (Worker herder correction from last issue!) Youngstown All Breed Training Club will be hosting its next agility trial at the Wellness Center in Niles on Saturday and Sunday, June 20 And 21. The agility trial committee works very hard to put on four trials a year at the Well. A few days prior to the trial, the committee along with several other faithful members, load Mike Coates trailer with ring gating, chairs, tables, ribbons, signs, etc. The afternoon or evening before the trial, all of those items must be unloaded and distributed around the Well. Whenever our equipment vendor arrives, the members help unload the equipment and set up the rings. When the soccer field is rented for a game or practice the evening of the setup, our members have had to wait until as late as 8 or 9 P.M. to set up the rings. Our fifth annual trial is at our building in October and it is a one ring trial. The worker herders have to scramble at the trial to try to fill in the needed slots. Without the help of exhibitors at the trial, who are not YABTC members, we would never be able to have enough workers to run the trial. Wouldn t it be fantastic if Rae and Bill would be able to start the trial with most of the workers slots filled in and for them not to have to recruit as many people at the trial? If any of you have even just a few hours on June 20 and 21 and would like to help at the trial, please contact Rae and Bill Reinhart at billrae05@aol.com or agilityworker@yabtc.com. And if you think that maybe you won't know what to do? Don't worry! None of us did when we first started. We will be happy to teach you right at the trial. Depending on what your skill level is or what activity you would prefer to do, we have a job for you. Workers are compensated with tickets which can be used towards food or vendor items. Another choice is to use your earnings for credit towards a class at YABTC--agility, rally or obedience. Your club needs your help to make their trials run smoothly and efficiently so that the exhibitors want to come to our trials. There are a lot of trials for them to choose from and we want them to choose YABTC. Please volunteer to help your club to maintain and pay for our wonderful facility! Welfare Marcy Marley's father passed away May 26th. The club sends its sincere condolences on his passing Photo of the Month Taken by Vilma O'Neill Help a Future Judge! Submitted by Mary Mignogna Hi all!! Are you looking for something to do July 4th morning before the picnics and fireworks?? How about an Obedience & Rally Match at YABTC? See in the up coming sections, a flyer for the Sanctioned Match that we will be holding on July 4th. Please note that this is an actual "sanctioned" match and not just run-thrus. Trial rules will be applied in the ring (no food, no training, etc.) and scores, placements, and ribbons will be awarded. We are holding this match to help a current member (me Mary Mignogna), a former & future member (Richard DiMarco), and a friend of the club (Karen Schroeder) to complete another pre-requisite to apply to become future Rally and/or Obedience judges. If you are not ready to be trialing in rally or obedience, but want to be a part of the match, please contact me if you would like to volunteer. Judging assignements lead to some neat photo opportunities at the Borzoi Natopnals at Sawmill Creek resort in Huron, Ohio. The theme was Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. This rockin drummer decoration was way cool. On Wednesday, May 13 Vilma O'Neill evaluated dogs for Therapy Dog International. There were also some non Borzoi guests tested, a California Corgi & a Belgian Shepard. One Borzoi came all the way from Puerto Rico! We will be in need of Stewards, donations for the kitchen, and also will need to clean the Club Friday night and set up just like a regular trial. Thank you in advance for all of your help and continued support of our club. ~Mary Corresponding Secretary Dan O'Neill judged the lure coursing Monday May 11. There was an entry of 60 for the trial and 27 for the JC/QC. Sawmill Creek Resort near Sandusky is a lovely venue which is becoming popular for dog specialties. Dalmatians were there recently and Ridgebacks are scheduled for 2026. Check it out! May 2015 Youngstown All Breed Training Club 3
