APA/ABA SANCTIONED SHOW Judges: Ben Porter, Jeff Halbach, Dwight Madsen SPECIAL AWARDS The Heritage Poultry Conservancy will award: $500 to the Outstanding Overall Junior Exhibitor and $250 to the Outstanding Exhibitor in Junior Chicken Show Plus display awards GRAND CHAMPION AND RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION WINNERS will receive an APA or ABA Standard of Perfection compliments of the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. THE AMERICAN POULTRY ASSOCIATION will award an APA Medal plus one (1) year Junior membership (1 per year) to the Junior Exhibitor of the following: Champion Large Chicken and Champion Bantam. (Refer to the Open Poultry Department for more details.) Junior Poultry Showmanship - Registration for Junior Poultry Showmanship is 12:00-5:00 PM Friday, October 20 in the Starr Barn. Your specific competition show times will be posted by 6:00 P.M. Friday, October 20. Poultry Showmanship Competition is Saturday, October 21 starting at 9:00 A.M. Refer to Poultry section in the exhibitor handbook for additional information. Entry Fee into the Junior Chicken Show includes entry fee into the Open Chicken Show. Junior Entries are automatically entered into the Open Chicken Show. Junior Exhibitors will be paid premiums in both shows.

JUNIOR CHICKEN SHOW SPECIAL RULES SPECIAL RULES 1. ALL BIRDS MUST POSSESS A NUMBERED LEG OR WING BAND (INCLUDING NPIP FLOCKS) AND THIS BAND NUMBER SHOULD BE LISTED ON THE ENTRY FORM. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT BAND NUMBERS ON ENTRY FORM. This leg or wing band number should also be written on outside of shipping coop or on a tag attached to the coop. 2. All Exhibitors (and parent if applicable) must sign the entry form. Entry forms without signatures are not valid. 3. NO SUBSTITUTIONS will be made on day of show. Entries will be judged as entered. 4. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding and watering their own birds until judging is completed. Please provide your own feed if possible. ASF staff will feed and care for birds after judging is complete. Contact Dr. Keith Bramwell at 479-841-6498 or Scharidi Barber at 501-671-2189 if you have questions. 5. One coop provided for each bird entered, including Trio s, when possible. Double cooping of some birds will be available upon request when space is available. 6. All birds not claimed by 12:00 noon, Sunday, October 22, will be removed at discretion of management. 7. The judging will be conducted under the rules of the American Poultry Association. Birds will be judged by comparison method according to the American Standard of Perfection latest edition, Instructions to Judges, For Economic Qualities of Standard-Bred Fowls. All recognized poultry breeds are eligible to show in this show. If you are unsure which group to enter your bird(s), contact Dr. Keith Bramwell 479-841-6498, Gary Davis 479-575-7526 or Scharidi Barber 501-671-2189. 8. Junior Exhibitors use Junior Division numbers on your entry form which is different than Open Division Numbers. Do Not Use Open Division numbers on Junior entries. 9. Same bird cannot be entered in both a single and pen class. However, an individual bird from a trio may be considered for class or show champion. Exhibitors may enter more than two entries per class but will only be paid premiums for their two top placing within that class. 10. Judges are instructed to recognize those characteristics of body shape that are typical of a useful and productive fowl and give full consideration to those fundamental qualities of body type that are necessary to maintain vigor, usefulness and productiveness at the highest point consistent with true breed type. 11. All poultry, which includes game birds, quail, pheasants, peafowl, turkeys, and waterfowl shall have originated from a US Pullorum clean flock or have had a negative Pullorum test within ninety (90) days of entry. See Health Regulations under General Rules in the Livestock Exhibitor Handbook for all other Livestock & Health Regulations. In the case that

any bird exhibits signs of disease or sickness, the ASF Management has the right to remove the bird(s) from the premises. Entry Fee into the Junior Chicken Show includes entry fee into the Open Chicken Show. Junior Entries are automatically entered into the Open Chicken Show. Junior Exhibitors will be paid premiums in both shows.

Birds entered in the Commercial Layer 4-H Competition (Division 5100 and 5300) must have originated through the 4-H Poultry Chain Project administered by the State Extension Office. 7. The judging will be conducted to evaluate current reproductive development and potential egg production and performance of pullets. Primary criteria evaluated will be reproductive parameters such as abdominal capacity and spread. Judges are also instructed to recognize those characteristics of body shape that are typical of a useful and productive fowl and give full consideration to those fundamental qualities of body type that are necessary to maintain vigor, usefulness and productiveness at the highest point for production fowl. 8. No entry fee will be charged on the County Champion Pen of Three 4-H Pullets but entry form must be received by September 15 (Submit entry under county name pending county results and supply exhibitor name immediately after county competition). New this year, County Reserve Champion Pen and District Champions are eligible to compete in the County Champion (Division 5300) class. However, the Reserve County Champion and District Champion Pen of Three 4-H Pullets will be charged an entry fee. 11. Champion and Reserve Champion birds from the County Champion Division (5300) will remain on exhibit until the end of exhibition. 12. All poultry shall have originated from a US Pullorum clean flock or have had a negative Pullorum test within ninety (90) days of entry. The UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT FAYETTEVILLE will award DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS BY SEMESTER TO A MAJOR IN POULTRY SCIENCE to the exhibitors of the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Broilers. The students must meet the minimum academic standards for POULTRY SCIENCE freshmen or transfer students upon entrance and maintain those standards to continue receiving this scholarship. SPECIAL RULES 1. A pen of three broiler pullets (seven-weeks-old) constitutes an entry. 2. Only one pen of broilers may be entered by each exhibitor. 3. Broilers entries brought on Friday, Oct 13, must be cared for by the owner until the time of judging. 4. The top two pens of broilers will sell in the Sale of Champions. The third through sixth place exhibitors will receive Super Premium Scholarship Awards. 5. Only birds provided through the County Extension Offices or Vo-Ag Chapters from the University Of Arkansas Department of Poultry Science are eligible. 8. Open Exhibitors use Open Division numbers on your entry form which is different than Junior Division Numbers. Do Not Use Junior Division numbers on Open entries. 9. Same bird cannot be entered in both a single and pen class. However, an individual bird from a trio may be considered for class or show champion. Exhibitors may enter more than two entries per class but will only be paid premiums for their two top placing within that class. 10. Judges are instructed to recognize those characteristics of body shape that are typical of a useful and productive fowl and give full consideration to those fundamental qualities of body type that are necessary to maintain vigor, usefulness and productiveness at the highest point consistent with true breed type. 11.
