SEROLOGICAL TESTING/1 IBR ERADICATION PROGRAMME "OLD" "NEW" Blood serological testing on all the bovine animals older than 9 months of age both in farms BHV1-free and in the BHV1-positive ones. 1) Farms BHV1 positive All the bovine animals older than 9 months of age are subjected to blood serological investigation. 2) Farms BHV1 free 2a) Less than 30% of the bovine animals are lactating female: All the bovine animals older than 24 months of age are subjected to blood serological investigation.

SEROLOGICAL TESTING/2 2b) At least 30% of the bovine animals are lactating female: with one or more vaccinated animals All the bovine animals older than 24 months of age are subjected to blood serological investigation. with no vaccinated animals Two samples of milk (serological investigation) taken with an interval of at least three months from all lactating female bovine animals from a bulk of milk of not more than 50 lactating female bovine animals. GETTING AND RETAINING THE BHV1 FREE STATUS Between the conditions set out in the decision 2004/558/EC to get and retain the BHV1 free status IBR ERADICATION PROGRAMME "OLD" It was not clearly specified: the holding and any nonadjacent pastures or premises, independently of ownership, that form part of the holding as an epidemiological entity, must be effectively separated from any pasture or premises of lesser BHV1-status, either by natural or physical barriers that effectively prevent direct contact between animals of different health status. "NEW" In according to decision 2004/558/EC, it is specified: the holding and any non-adjacent pastures or premises, independently of ownership, that form part of the holding as an epidemiological entity, must be effectively separated from any pasture or premises of lesser BHV1-status, either by natural or physical barriers that effectively prevent direct contact between animals of different health status.

SUSPENSION OF THE BHV1 FREE STATUS IBR ERADICATION PROGRAMME "OLD" BHV1- free status suspended in case of positive results in blood serological investigation. "NEW" 1) Farms tested by means of blood serological investigation No change: BHV1- free status suspended in case of positive results in blood serological investigation. 2) Farms tested by means of milk serological investigation In case of positive results the animal movement is stopped and all the bovine animals older than 24 months of ages are subjected to blood serological test within 10 days. If a positive result comes out from blood serological test, the BHV1- free status is suspended.

MOUNTAIN PASTURE It is allowed to lead cattle to the mountain pasture only coming from BHV1-free farms. There is an exception for the bovine animals of the Autonomous Province of Trento IBR ERADICATION PROGRAMME "OLD" It is allowed to lead cattle to the mountain pasture also from BHV1- positive farms, provided that these animals are effectively separated from cattle with different sanitary status located in other mountain pasture. "NEW" It is allowed to lead cattle to the mountain pasture also from BHV1- positive farms and from unknown BHV1 status farms (meat farms), provided that theese animals are effectively separated from cattle with different sanitary status located in other mountain pasture.
