Special Note on UKC Registration All dogs entered in junior showmanship, conformation classes (except Elder Sweeps), and in performance (obedience, rally) must be UKC registered by the closing date of the show. Overnight/Express Mail entries must have the signature waived. Entries received without fees will not be accepted. E-mail acknowledgement of entries will be made as soon as practicable after closing date if you include your e-mail address on the entry. Should such acknowledgement not be received by the exhibitor within a reasonable time, please notify the Show Secretary. Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by Vet eri narian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of Show committee. If because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management it is impossible to open or to complete the show, no refund of entry fees will be made. Extreme weather conditions, such as, but not limited to snow storms, tornadoes, lightning, extreme heat, must be considered for the health and safety of the dogs, exhibitors and spectators. The well-being of dogs, exhibitors and spectators is of paramount importance, and, in the event it is necessary to cancel or stop the show before completion, no refund of entry fee will be made. No substitution of dogs. UKC or UBSDA is not responsible for loss, accidents, or theft. Move-up/Entry Correction Policy A correction to any entry, or in the event that a dog needs to be moved up to the Champion or Grand Champion class due to the completion of title requirements, must be made in writing to the Show Secretary one half hour prior to the scheduled start of any judging at the show. Owners/exhibitors are responsible for correcting any errors following these guidelines. Conformation Licensed Classes (regular & altered) Entries close Aug. 18th Friday Sunday, Sept. 8 10th ENTRY FEE $25.00 JuDGe: Rui Alves Monteiro Mont Alves, Portugal All regular & non-licensed classes UKC CHAMPIONSHIP/ALTERED CHAMPIONSHIP 100 points; Points won under at least three different judges; Three times awarded Best Male/Female under three differferent judges. Point Schedule: First in each class 5 points Best Male/Female 12 points Best Male/Female of Variety 8 points Best of Winners 10 points UKC GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP/ALTERED GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP Five Champion class wins (at least three entered in class) won at five different shows under three different judges. CLASSES & JUDGING The following classes are offered for each sex in each of the four varieties for intact dogs and altered dogs: Puppy 6 months to under 1 year of age Junior 1 year to under 2 years of age Intermediate 2 years to under 3 years of age Adult 3 years of age and over Breeder/Handler 6 months of age and over; dog is handled by a breeder of record at UKC or by a member of the immediate family (spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, brother, sister) of the breeder of record. Champion class: This class is comprised of Belgian Shepherd Dogs that have earned the ukc Champion title. It includes both sexes and all four varieties. Grand Champion class: This class is comprised of Belgian Shepherd Dogs that have earned the ukc title of Grand Champion. It includes both sexes and all four varieties. Best of Breed Competition is comprised of the Best of Winners and the winners of the Champion and Grand Champion classes. ALTERED LICENSED CLASSES The purpose of these classes is to enable owners of spayed and neutered dogs to get an evaluation of their dog s conformation and to enable breeders to see a wider range of dogs resulting from the breeding programs. When a dog is altered after earning points/legs towards a ukc title of Champion or Grand Champion, the points/ legs earned are transferred from the regular title requirements to the altered title requirements. Altered classes (puppy, junior, intermediate [senior], adult, breeder/handler) are for dogs that have not attained a ukc title of Altered Champion, Altered Grand Champion, Champion (CH) or Grand Champion (GRCH) degree. Belgian Shepherd Dogs will be judged using assisted animation. The judge will write a critique of each dog presented and give each a rating (excellent, very good, acceptable or not rated). The Judge shall give up to four placements, where possible, in this class. The Best Veteran Male shall compete with the Best Veteran Female for Best Veteran of Breed. Dogs must be permanently registered with the UKC or have a valid TL number by the closing date of the show in order to be eligible for this class. Spayed and neutered dogs are eligible for this class. Stud Dog & Brood Bitch Classes Friday, September 8th entry Fee $10.00 JuDGe: Rui Alves Monteiro Classes will be judged separately by sex. These classes shall be judged on the quality of the progeny and not the individual stud dogs and brood bitches. Stud dogs and brood bitches must be permanently registered with UKC by the closing date of the show to be eligible for this class. Progeny may compete if they are permanently registered with UKC, are out of ukc Registered litters, or have a valid TL number by the closing date. Spayed bitches and neutered dogs are eligible to compete in these classes but not as progeny. The Judge shall give up to four placements, where possible, in these classes. Only the exhibitors of the stud dogs and brood bitches are required to wear armbands in these classes. Stud Dog: Each entry in this class shall consist of a stud dog and at least two but not more than four dogs sired by that dog. The progeny must be at least three months of age and may include both sexes. At least two of the progeny must be entered in the licensed classes. Stud dogs entered in this class may not be counted as progeny for their sires in the same class. Entries shall be made in the name of the stud dog. Brood Bitch: Each entry in this class shall consist of a brood bitch and at least two but not more than four dogs produced by that bitch. The progeny must be at least three months of age and may include both sexes. At least two of the progeny must be entered in the licensed classes. Brood bitches entered in this class may not be counted as progeny for their dams in the same class. Entries shall be made in the name of the brood bitch. Novice Puppy Classes Friday, September 8th entry Fee $10.00 JuDGe: Rui Alves Monteiro The classes will be divided by sex. For intact dogs three months of age and under six months of age that are permanently registered with ukc, or that have a valid Temporary Listing (TL) number by the closing date of the show, or that are not yet permanently registered but that are from litters registered with ukc by the closing date of the show. The judge shall give up to four placements, where possible, in these classes. Best of Breed Novice Puppy class shall consist of the winners of the Novice Male class and Novice Female class. The judge shall select a single winner in this class. Best Breeder/Handler Dog Saturday, September 9th after Best Female NO entry Fee JuDGe: Rui Alves Monteiro This is an honorary class consisting of the winners of all the Breeder/Handler classes, all varieties, both sexes.. Lot d Elevage Entries close August 18th Friday, September 8th entry Fee $10.00 per kennel group JuDGe: Rui Alves Monteiro Lot d elevage is a breeder s group. The purpose of this class is to honor those kennels who are producing consistently high-quality Belgian Shepherds of uniform type. For full class description see entry form on page 15. All dogs must also be entered in a licensed conformation class. The following awards will be presented: Best Groenendael Kennel, Best Laekenois Kennel, Best Malinois Kennel, Best Tervueren Kennel and Best Kennel in Show. entry form is on page 15. Sweepstakes Entries close August 18th Thursday, September 7th, 9 am entry Fee $10.00 There will be classes for Youth, elder and Working Dog Sweepstakes. Dogs will be judged using assisted animation and will receive a written critique from the judge. The varieties will be shown together in each class. Neutered dogs may compete in Elder and Working Sweepstakes only. JUDGING ASSIGNMENTS Debbie Wade Males Owen Deatrick Females Sweepstakes entry fees will be divided among the placing entries. After expenses are deducted club will retain 25% of the fees. The remaining fees will be awarded for each class as follows: 1st place, 40%; 2nd place, 30%; 3rd place, 20%; 4th place, 10%. Youth Sweepstakes All dogs entered in Youth Sweepstakes must also be entered in a regular class and must be UKC registered. Classes for males & females: 6 9 months, 9 12 months, 12 18 months, 18 24 months, Best & Best Opposite in Youth Sweepstakes. Elder Sweepstakes Dogs entered in Elder Sweepstakes do not need to be entered in a regular class and do not need to be UKC registered. Neutered males and spayed females may compete. Classes for males & females: 8 10 years, 10 12 years, 12 14 years, over 14 years, Best & Best Opposite in Elder Sweepstakes Working Dog Sweepstakes The purpose of the Working Dog Sweepstakes is to recognize and honor dogs that possess verified working abilities that most closely resemble the UKC standard for the Belgian Shepherd Dog. Best and Best Opposite in Working Sweeps will be chosen from the winners of the male and female classes. Classes are divided by working level and gender. Each dog, regardless of age or variety, is entered in the class appropriate for the level/titles earned. Disciplines include: agility, barn hunt, dock diving, flyball, herding, lure coursing, nosework, obedience, rally obedience, IPO, tracking, and weight pull. Titles earned in multiple venues for the same level count as one title (i.e., a ukc CDX and AKC CDX counts as one CDX title). The highest of progressive titles counts as one title (i.e., u-agi and U-AgII equals one U-AgII). Dogs entered in Working Dog Sweepstakes do not need to be entered in a regular class, but must be UKC registered. Neutered males and spayed females may compete. Classes for males and females : Level 1 is the introductory or novice skill level of any discipline. Dogs must have at least one of the titles listed below. Level 2 is the intermediate skill level of any discipline. Based on complexity, as determined by the UBSDA Board, it may be the final accomplishable level in some disciplines. Dogs must have at least one of the identified titles OR two level one titles in different disciplines. Level 3 is the advanced skill level of a discipline. Based on complexity, ad determined by the UBSDA Board, it may be the final accomplishable level in some disciplines. Dogs must have at least one of the identified titles OR two level two titles in different disciplines. Level 4 is the grand skill level of a discipline. Dogs must have at least one of the identified titles OR two level three titles in different disciplines. Description of Titles: The following chart identifies specific ukc titles or title categories included within a level. Examples of equivalent titles from other kennel clubs or working clubs are provided. These examples are not all inclusive. If a discipline or title is not listed that you feel makes a dog eligible for a certain level you may submit that title's documentation along with your reasoning and request the sweepstakes chair consider the entry eligibility. The sweepstakes chair will make the sole and final determination of eligibility. To be eligible to enter into the Breeder/Handler class, you must be one of the breeders of record, or a member of the immediate family of one of the breeders of record. Immediate family includes: spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, brother or sister, so long as the handler is not a professional handler as defined by UKC Rules and Regulations. WAIVER All events are held under the Official Rules and Regulations of the United Kennel Club, Inc. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or firearms will be allowed on the grounds or in the buildings on the day of a UKC Licensed event. All dogs must be UKC registered/listed and must also be exhibited in a licensed conformation class. If a kennel breeds more than one variety it may enter more than one group (e.g., a Groenendael group and a Tervueren group). A dog may only compete in one kennel grouping.
