Test Report, WP 5.2.4 Other Areas 04, BOSNIA-HZG SUMMARY: This report comprises the test results from the WP 5.2.4 Other Areas 04, Bosnia- Herzegovina. During week 337, September 2003 a team of 3 SRSA personnel has been performing tests at the SRSA new Croatian Test Field. The main objective with WP 5.2.4 Other Areas 04 in Bosnia-Herzegovina was : Collect air and soil samples for testing in GC-ECD from the training area of the NPA MDD. 31 samples in total were collected during Other Areas 04, Bosnia-Herzegovina. These samples were distributed as: 1 Samples of fresh air, outdoors 3 Samples from the MDD fur, paws and nose ( dust sample) 7 Air samples in boxes, outdoors in MDD training facility 20 Soil samples in test lines, outdoors in MDD training facility The Mine Detection Dogs were able to detect the s in the boxes before and after air sampling with a yield of 100%. The collection of dust from a MDD were all positive for TNT 3 of 3 in total. The soil samples were collected from one local test field and the air samples were collected from another local test field. The air samples were collected on the spots were the MDD indicated presence of s. The MDD detected 7 s of 7 in total before and after air sampling. (A yield of 100%, no false alarms). The air samples showed one sample positive for TNT of 7 in total. No sample was positive for DNT. 20 soil samples were collected in an outdoor test field used for training of NPA MDD. Note: the soil samples and the air samples were collected in different test fields. Of the 20 soil samples 20 were positive for TNT and none of these 20 samples were positive for DNT. The level of concentration were quite high for TNT. The soil samples were collected both above s and in safe lines. According to NPA personnel a well trained MDD is able to pinpoint s in this specific test field. If the dogs only were to use TNT/DNT as a marker for detection of s these results indicates the dog to work with extremely small gradients of TNT/DNT for pinpointing of planted s. However these results also indicate the dog to use one or several other markers for detection of s in combination with TNT/DNT. The number of samples are not large enough to have a statistically significant material. Records of Change Revision Date File Reference Reason of change Rev. 1.0 16/March/2004 First Edition ii/ vi

1 WP 5.2.4 OTHER AREAS 04, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA, SHORT INTRODUCTION This document comprises the Test Report from the tests conducted under the WP 5.2.4 Other Areas 04 in Bosnia-Herzegovina during September 2003. WP 5.2.4 is a part of the WP 5, Test and Evaluation, within the EU Project Biosens IST-2000-25348. Refer to EU document Annex 1, Description of Work, 05/12/2000-IST-2000-25348 (). The main objectives with WP 5.2.4 Other Areas 04 in Bosnia-Herzegovina were : Collect air and soil samples for testing in GC-ECD from the training area of the NPA MDD. 31 samples in total were collected during Other Areas 04, Bosnia-Herzegovina. These samples were distributed as: 1 Samples of fresh air, outdoors 3 Samples from the MDD fur, paws and nose ( dust sample) 7 Air samples in boxes, outdoors in MDD training facility 20 Soil samples in test lines, outdoors in MDD training facility The submitted instructions from Biosensor Applications AB concerning Handling and Operation of Test Equipment and Storage and Transportation of filters have been applied during the tests. For Handling and Operation of Test Equipment refer to Operational Manual and System Description from Biosensor Applications AB, see paragraph 5. For Storage and Transportation of filters refer to instructions from Biosensor Applications AB, see paragraph 5. The submitted instructions from FOI concerning Handling, Storage and Transportation of soil samples have been applied during the tests. For Storage and Transportation of soil samples refer to instructions from FOI, see paragraph 5. All filters were transported from the test site to Biosensor Applications AB s premises in Stockholm for analyses with gas chromatograph. All classification of test results were performed by Biosensor Applications AB s personnel (air samples) and FOI (soil samples). 1 / 8
