Friskies canned cat food problems You are not putting enough gravy in the can cat food, pate. Very dry. This is getting to be a huge problem. Cats hate it! When it comes to the shreds, there's gravy, but they hate the shreds. This is extremely annoying. Thank you, you have successfully subscribed to our newsletter! Enjoy reading our tips and recommendations. I have 3 big Maine Coon cats, 2 domestic short hair cats, all in which have a great appetites and love wet food. I had to switch to a different brand this weekend in fear that my cats will become very ill. I have called Friskies/Purina several times about this and they deny any changes have been made AND when I asked if there have been any other complaints, they have told me "NO", and that this is the first they have heard about it. Lies, lies, and more lies! Don't trust this brand or this company. Please do yourself and your beloved cats a favor and switch to something like Hill's Science Diet or Iams, or something more nutritious. You could be jeopardizing their life by continuing to feed them this garbage! ratings submitted in the last year SHOW RATING DISTRIBUTION. This company is not yet accredited. To learn more, see reviews below or submit your own. Thanks Keep an eye on your inbox, the lastest consumer news is on it's way!. I had a few of the old cases of Friskies pate (48 cans each) but just ran out. This was the only cat food my cats have ever known. Costco switched to Friskies in the bright GREEN boxes and the cans each have a stripe on them. No idea why the company decided to switch boxes. When I started "trying" to feed them the food from the new packages, at first I thought they were not very hungry. But this is TWO cats. My cat is not ashamed to indicate, by a scraping motion next to the dish, that the food needs to be buried in their litter boxes. My garbage disposal is getting clogged with what amounts to full cans of Friskies. I've seen dried vomit on the garage floor and cleaning out the litter boxes indicates that at least one of them has the runs. The only thing that changes was the packaging

and labels on the pate. Tell me a fantasy that NOTHING has changed with the product in the past couple of months. After reading different reviews online, I actually examined 3 different cans of wet food in picking things out of the cans that were actually dark pieces of PLASTIC!!! Yes, PLASTIC! I posted this on Facebook in hopes of helping other people. I also found many bone fragments. NOT GOOD! Thanks to those who have shared their experiences, I knew I wasn't the only one. Please pay attention to your pets when they reject food, they are very smart and their senses are more acute than humans. They are trying to tell you something that you are unaware of! The estimate cost so far for this vet visit is going to be another $400. Very upset about this and after reading through reviews of others going through similar events like this I truly believe it is the food. The food is going straight in the trash. Please stay away from this food if you love your animals. I have added photos below of my Cats. These are of my small kitten that died when she was normal then when she was sick and the other one is a normal picture of my 2 year old cat and the other is what I came home to her looking like. I have 3 cats. They have been eating Friskies canned pate for over a year. I would give pate to them in the morning. So every morning they would be waking me up because they wanted that pate, they gobbled it up. Well in the past couple months they've been eating less and less of this food. I've been throwing at least half of it away. Well recently my one cat has had a bit of bloody, mucus stool, my other cat, who we rescued 4 months ago has been having seizures, and our other cat has been past few days, not eating, not drinking as much, sometimes hiding, lethargic, no energy, and he has lost weight in the past few months. All 3 of my cats now have medical problems. I wish it had not taken this long to figure out that it's all connected to the canned food, I truly believe that now, after coming across these reviews which I am so grateful that I did. All these cats having medical problems, and all eating this same food. Be in the know Get trending consumer news and recalls. I've fed my cat Friskies canned food for a long time, but over the past month or two, my cat has begun refusing to eat the Friskies canned foods - nearly every flavor. It just sits in her bowl and she won't touch it. Curious, I decided to purchase a couple of other brands of moist food to see if she would eat. This worked like a charm. Not only did she eat, but she licked the bowl clean and wanted more. Friskies, what have you changed? Whatever it is, it's not working. Clearly there are many consumers noticing the same issue since there are numerous recent reviews/complaints about this same problem. I hope you're listening, Friskies company, and will do something to correct the problem. My cat's nose knows what's good for her; therefore, I'll be purchasing my canned food from your competitors. We use intelligent software that helps us maintain the integrity of reviews. I don't know if this is related, but I opened a can last week that was full of black mold inside. I understand one bad can after 10 years shouldn't mean the end of a good vendor/customer relationship. But even though the other cans in

that carton appeared ok, none of the cats ate more than a couple bites. Why? When I went to write this review to alert you to a potential problem, I was astounded to see review after review with exactly the same concern, some with cat symptoms even worse than we've observed here. If you want more people to contact about this same problem, please let me know. We're very worried. Thank you for looking into this. We require contact information to ensure our reviewers are real. I have been feeding my cats Friskies cat food for years. Recently, my cats are refusing to eat the food. I have one "dainty" eater and one that will eat just about anything. Both cats are refusing the food, all wet/canned varieties. My voracious eater has been vomiting and has very loose stool and very vocal. I will be changing the food and on to the vet if his health does not improve. Something is definitely wrong with the food or at least different. I have been noticing a difference in my cats' eating habits with Friskies in the past 2 weeks or so. Please avoid this food for your cat's sake. Be the first one to find this review helpful. For more information about reviews on ConsumerAffairs.com please visit our. We've fed our indoor cats Friskies wet cat food for many years. A couple of months ago, our cat got really sick. Took him to the vets for $600 in testing and meds. Changed foods and he recovered. We put him back on Friskies a couple of weeks ago and now he's really sick again. Never feeding this food to any animal again. All his blood work come back good. The vets were quite stumped as to what the cause was. Now we know. My poor Darthy who is black short haired cat, is recently have fart poop problems, leaving stains on sheets and when farts some poop comes out. Family is disgusted. Never had problem with food till now. I buy all the variety you offer and now he's suffering??? Disappointed. I will no longer buy Friskies. Someone was trying to get more info from the company but I haven't seen any re posts about the food since. holy caca! i should checked earlier, i knew something was not right, all my cats suddendly started regularly drinking water last weekend, i thought maybe it was because they got 1 tbsp of dr. elseys dry or because they got dewormed monday though. However i have also been dealing with one cat throwing up 2-3 times in a row at least twice a day about an hour after he eats and this was before deworming. Than 4 days ago tux threw up forcefully, he rarely throws up and hadn't done so in months. i decided it had to be the whitefish that i decided to start refeeding one can between 4 cats a day so i stopped feeding it for good this time but, yesterday, 2 other cats started throwing up too and all i am feeding is the poultry flavors with mixed grill and country dinner being ones fed the most. today, i woke up to a total mess downstairs, puke everwhere and even two small clear ones that left little red dots on papertowel when i clean it up, i though maybe

I havent had any issues with Fancy Feast either thats why I was curious what issue people were having. cats throwing up, not eating and some even dying..lots 1157, 1159 and 1161 and ANY CANS WITH DOUBLE STAMPS ON THEM...... All 3 of our cats are eating Fancy Feast every day. They have not had any food issues. Except they do tend to like the chicken pate the best! I just bought my fish oil (same brand from catinfo) at Walgreens. They are on sale buy one get one free. Plus, I used the Walgreens app coupons and saved an additional $1. Walgreens often runs a buy one get one or buy one get one 50% off sale. They carry all the supplements (different brand than catinfo) except I didn't see taurine. Enjoy reading our tips and recommendations. nope i stopped completely after this thread (thank you again for it). i got 7 cases put away that i was going to dump out but, hubby said to wait to see if the 1157 lot gets recalled first. I temporarily switched everyone to authority, royal canin's sensitive wet foods and homemade turkey & sweet potato cat food i still had some of in freezer yesterday afternoon, only one minor throw up yesterday from cat who was really bad and one throw up today from one of the kittens with tummy issues, that's it big improvement! gonna switch all the cats to the new American Journey wet cat food, if they don't like it than guess am going to have to make them like my cooking.. @ceil99, please be more specific. What's wrong with the food? Be the first one to find this review helpful. Friskies Tasty Treasures/Friskies Classic Pate /Friskies Indoor has gone DOWNHILL. My 16 yr old cats (2) have eaten Friskies for their whole life and now they won't touch it. I know my cats. I pay attention to them. Something has changed with the canned cat food Friskies. At first I thought it was Chewy selling expired

or low end food for a profit. I bought the same food at store and same result. My cats won't touch it. They lick the sauce and then leave the majority of the food on the plate. I am so frustrated over this because cats get very skinny and fragile when they are old and this bad food has been going on for few months now and I don't think it's going to IMPROVE. It's all about MONEY for the company. I'm sure they are downgrading the quality. We require contact information to ensure our reviewers are real. I had also found some small black flecks in the cans. Maybe it was just fish skin or something, but I'm not about to risk it after what people are saying online. How do you make the homemade turkey and sweet potatoe, please.. later i would make 5lbs in large slow cooker. -i than use the cooled excess fluid to mix half the recommended tcfeline supplement (my cats did NOT like the taste when i used full amount). unlike in instruction, there will be fluids left when meat is done cooking enough, if you cook till there is none, the meat will be overcooked and yuck.. add mix to meat. -i added 500mg of taurine per 2.5lbs to supplement mix before mixing with meat -i than added on half the can of S&W or pure pumpkin..thats it, pretty simple. I also ordered supplements to try the homemade recipe from 'catinfo.org'. I would like to feed them homemade for the majority of their meals, but there's a lot of cats in the house between my parents and me. saw fancy feast mentioned but, didn't see yet why. my little one eats fancy feast turkey and he has been fine on it so since i have 4 cases left going to swap everyone to it and up dr. elsey dry food till i figure out what to do. thankfully i actually gave 1/4 cp of dry food to 9 cats this morning after getting grumpy with the disaster spots all over house, guess that turned out to be a good thing since only 2 cans of friskies have been fed at snack time today! so for now i know definitely don't feed double stamped ones again. Note: Just don't buy the claims that flaxseed gives your animal omega 3s! Cats and dogs cannot convert the alpha-linoleic-acid to EPA and DHA, so they don't really get omega 3's from flax oil, as Dr. Jean Hofve explains here. It's not easy for humans to convert flax oil to EPA/DHA either, so I'm not surprised. Huh? Well, at this point, I will choose ground flaxseed over carrageenan any day. What do we know about how a little affects the gut over time? And may it have been one factor in my Bastet's intestinal cancer?! (Most of her wet foods had carrageenan and grains, and the dry food had rice.). But I, for one, am going to start avoiding it because I don't want any Bad Stuff in cat food that is eaten regularly over a period of years. 61 Responses to What we didn't know about human grade cat food and more. even regular (nondegraded) carrageenan looks guilty of suppressing the immune

system and inflaming the intestinal lining which, I might add, is the kind of thing that causes intestinal bowel disease (IBD). Some of my favorite cat food companies don't seem to have heard about this particular study on non-degraded carrageenan yet. I cannot prove anything, but from what I have read I believe that the dry food diet that I fed her throughout her life was the primary cause of her illnesses. Please DO NOT feed your cat dry food! And guess what? Many of the other highly respected cat foods have claimed to be human grade as well. (I'm not going to name names I'm sure they're scrambling.). I am investigating. One great one that doesn't have carrageenan is Natures Variety Instinct 95%. But then, that has ground flaxseed. I have been avoiding some good canned brands (like Wellness and Instinct) because they have ground flaxseed and other fussy ingredients. My background as a nutritionist taught me that ground flaxseed oxidizes very quickly. Once flax is oxidized it's actually bad for you. Plus, I don't like to see a lot of fussy ingredients, because I believe a cat's digestion needs simple foods. Then my research on this topic led me to other shocking information. Shock #2.. Susan Thixton of TruthAboutPetFood.com has done some great investigating to come to the stunning truth that we don't really know what foods are human grade because it isn't defined or regulated for pet food. (Go here to help her petition to change this!). Cannot recommend enough after being cat-owned for >>Wow! Just pulled out the calculator, and it tells me the number is nearly 35 years, wow!. When I learned that Natura, makers of several respected brands of pet food, were accused of falsely advertising their pet food as "human grade," I thought, "Why, those liars! Does that mean their food is not good quality afterall?!". Now that I've confessed my fear of ground flaxseed to you, I need to get clear about it. Check out both these statements with convincing references currently in Wikipedia: Answer: It doesn't necessarily mean their food is bad quality. Rather, Natura got in trouble because there is no legal or standardized definition of "human grade" in pet food. So they were sued for false advertising. I have now changed her food back to her original dry formula and she seems to be recovering perfectly. Since this dry food is chicken-based I wonder if her negative reaction to the canned food was due to the carrageenan. Reading up on this additive I find that it can result in IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and possibly even cancer. AND I continue to stumble upon new things that could contribute intestinal cancer, including a new one I'll mention in a moment. Please do not take my comments as scientific evidence but be careful which foods you feed to your little cat. She is totally dependent on you for her health and welfare. "Ground flaxseed can go rancid at room temperature in as little as one week.". Degraded carrageenan, which occurs at high temperatures and acidity, has been associated with ulcerations in the gastro-intestinal tract and gastrointestinal cancer in animals. Before freaking out about that, do know that we aren't sure if the carrageenan in pet food has been degraded or not, and one study of various samples of human foods with

carrageenan found no degraded carrageenan. However, a number of good pet foods, including Natura, have gone ahead claimed "human grade" quality simply because it wasn't illegal under federal law to do so. In some states though, it is illegal. Hence, Natura was sued in California.
