2 THE HAPPY HEELER From the President s Desk November 2016 What a day! I want to thank everyone who came to the trials and helped. As you know our chief ring steward was unable to be with us as were several other members who have helped for many years. However, exhibitors from other clubs and members stepped up to make the trials run smoothly despite having three stewards who had never even been to an AKC trial before. Our judges were understanding and the rings ran efficiently. Thanks in large part to our indomitable trial secretary who remained unflappable throughout. I know there will be many brags in the trials. I also want to thank the many who helped with the set up and take down. We need to come up with a title for Jerry, who managed our equipment. With his system in place set up and take down should go smoothly next trial. Linda Hubbard and her husband have come up with a leash holder for the Rally ring, some of you who were at the IPOC trials saw the one Deb Neufeld brought and we saw how well that worked rather than throwing the leash over the fence. We did not have it for our trials but it is now with our equipment and will be available for the March trials. Speaking of the March trials, we have a volunteer for trophy chair. We do, however, need a chief ring steward. Be thinking of who would like to step up and volunteer for that job. I will bring the supplies to the meeting and we will have to do some sorting. Without someone in charge of those they sort of got thrown into the box with little attempt to organize them. And there are some things that may be missing. We will spend some of our time between supper and the meeting organizing them and list what we need for March. Also if you have not stewarded before, think about volunteering to steward. We will place you with experience stewards who will train you, and concentrating on the one ring where you are stewarding helps you learn more about being a better, more relaxed exhibitor I also want to bring up several items. One, time to shampoo the carpet again. Second, I sent pictures of the top of our trailer. It is rusting across the girders, and we need to think what to do about that. Ray Shinkle came over to look at it, and he and another member have suggested a sort of rubberized coating but we need to know what prep needs to be done first. Also we need someone to do the prep. I am hoping we can hire someone to come out here and prep it and maybe put on the coating also. We should have a report on the trial at the meeting, and see how we did. One thing some of us discussed was the possibility of having a non-regular Rally class added to the Rally trial, or having two Rally trials on Saturday as LEKC did. We also discussed having a new non-regular class where the handler could take one toy into the ring as a lure. Think that would go over??? The meeting is coming up fast - next week in fact Cindy has volunteered to bring a turkey, we need traditional or maybe nontraditional fixings. This is one meal you do not want to miss. We have some really good cooks in the club and we all like to eat! Also the nominating committee will be calling you if they have not already. We will be voting on our officers for the next year. If you are interested in serving as an officer of the club please let us know. I would love to have new blood and new ideas this next year. See you all at the meeting. Betty

5 More Spotlights... Huge Wins and Lots of Loot! From Susan Jackson Jeli and Jaxx had a fantastic weekend at the CFODC and LEKC trials. Thank you to the clubs, judges and stewards for putting on a great fall trial cluster! Jeli got her Novice Obedience title, 3 up and 3 down, and all runs with placements (two- 2 nd places and one- 3 rd place). I m a novice at this - never having done obedience before. My biggest concern was those interminable stays. Those minutes seem to take a life time! But Jeli did it with no problems even with one of her very bffs right next to her. I m very proud of my Jeli Beli! Jaxx debut in the ring was awesome! His first run was a 1 st place! On our second run, he did great but I blew past a sign and ended up with an NQ not his fault! Our third run was a 2 nd place, and our fourth run was a 4 th place. I am amazed and very proud of this little guy! Oh, and the icing on the cake was that his scores qualified him for Rally Nationals! Besides all of the pretty ribbons, the corgis collected some great toys. Momma won t have to go Christmas shopping for a while! New UDX and Rally Advanced Titles for Bling! From Mary Ann Sanford... Bling was given a surprise gift from Pam O'Saile, Manny, and Honor. I've known Pam from agility from back in the day before it was an AKC sport. Pam and I were both lucky enough to get a border collie from the circus gene litter. Her wonderful dog Manny is Bling's littermate. Anyway that litter kind of made us family, so when Bling earned his UDX, Pam made him a blinging UDX dumbbell to celebrate. Pam is not only sweet but also very talented and creative. We love the dumbbell, such a clever idea. Bling has recently been competing in Rally and picked up his Rally Advanced Title at our Autumn Cluster. Atta Boy Bling!
