GETTING STARTED with your KEYLESS ENTRY LOCK by KABA Compiled by Bonnie Pauli July 13, 2006 This simple manual is designed to answer enough basic questions to let you comfortably get started assigning guest and staff codes for your new door lock. The first 6 pages are mostly images this is not as long as you think. Take a look at the tables of USER PROPERTIES and DEFINITIONS you will need to refer to them as you assign a new type of code for the first time. Also pp 12-14 offer FAQs and SUPPORT Contact Info. Kaba Keyless Locks p.7 of 14 Once the lights start flashing red and green, you have _1000_ openings before the batteries go completely dead. Have guests notify your agent if they see the lights flashing. Housekeeping and maintenance should know how to change the batteries. 3 AA batteries need to be replaced. The access is easy but you must work quickly. The Battery Pack is accessed by taking out a screw on the bottom of the lock the verticle battery pack will drop out. Change the batteries quickly (you have about 2 minutes more than enough time if you have batteries on hand. If you tak too long, all programming will be lost and a call to the locksmith (Access Hardware) will be needed. If programming is lost that means the codes you have entered and given to guests who have not yet arrived will need to be changed as well. Be careful Photo of Lock area:

Kaba Keyless Locks p.8 of 14 Definitions of User Privileges Lock Open Personal Code This is the most common privilege, basically granted to everyone. It is the right to open the lock provided you enter the correct code. Many people find it easier to remember a personal code composed of numbers meaningful to them. Note: ONLY THE LAST PERSONAL CODE ENTERED IS VALID. If you forget your Personal Code, go back to the original code to open the door, then generate another personal code. First enter your assigned code, then #, then a 6-digit personal code. One-Shot Code A one-shot code is a code which gives access to a specific door. just once. Assign a one-shot code, for example, to a guest to go to a room and retrieve forgotten belongings. However, if the user tries to enter that room again later the code does not work. Passage Mode Passage Mode is often used on Common Rooms such as lobbies where you want to grant access to all guests and staff. Passage mode is also set on a lock if you have to enter and exit the room constantly and do not want to have to enter the code each time - the door remains unlocked until you remove Passage Mode. Though cleaning staff might want to use this mode, we suggest it is too easy to forget to reset the lock. This is more appropriate for use when remodeling, moving, etc (BBP) Remember to remove Passage Mode when it is no longer needed; anyone can enter the room by just turning the handle! Enter code followed by 2 to set Passage Mode and code followed by 3 to end it. Deadbolt Override A user with the Deadbolt Override privilege can open any door for which he has the access code. The user just enters the normal sequence for Lock Open; the door will open even if someone inside has set the deadbolt by turning the thumbturn to the left. All GUEST codes have this priviledge so if one member of the family is showering or napping and has set the dead bolt, a returning family member can still access the condo. Kaba Keyless Locks p.12 of 14 FAQ: How do I know which USER to select when creating a code? For most guests you will use GUEST1 For most permanent staff you will choose bi-weekly code Most USER options are self explanatory (PropertyManager/AGENT, WindowWasher, etc.) For others check the USER LEVELS SHEET above to see what extra privileges different levels have. Some HOUSEKEEPING or HOUSEKEEPER and Maintenance codes are just Daily these are for short term use good for a substitute or even could be used for a one day code for a special cleaner. Some codes are limited to 7am-6pm - most offer 24 hour access (unless dead bolt is on) Remember, you will know exactly who has been in your condo on what days should you need that info. Some contract folk you use on a regular basis (carpet cleaner, window washers may prefer a daily code be generated when they are scheduled rather than be given a more permanent code they can customize.. You should check with them prior to creating your first code for them. Once you know if you need a short term code (1-31 days) or long term code (1 week to 62 weeks) you should Pay particular attention to the DEAD BOLT OVERRIDE and PASSAGE MODE columns. For a guest s protection most codes for staff do not have DEAD BOLT OVERRIDE. When a guest is in the condo and throws the deadbolt, no one can get in except 1. Another member of the guest s group using the code issued for the guest (so she is in the shower when he tries to come in from a day of golf We think he should be able to get in) 2. FIRE DEPARTMENT/EMS 3. EKAHI MANAGER (our bylaws require the AOAO must be able to access the apartment at all times) 4. OWNER- Most owners will use their code for access when they are staying in the condo so they should have the same privilege as a guest 5. PROPERTY MANAGER/AGENT: You can use another code for your manager/agent without this privilege if you prefer but I thought you might want one of your people to be able to access the condo if a. someone isn t feeling well and they call you and the deadbolt is on b. you suspect traffic in and out might be leading to misuse of the condo and the guest keeps the deadbolt on all the time. c. other? Can I create a code that has the numbers in it I want? Yes and No! The system must create the code or the door will not know what to do. The algorithms giving meaning to the code are pre-programmed in each lock so the code given must meet those parameters. HOWEVER once you enter a code, you can personalize it (See DEFINITIONS of USER PRIVILEGES) remember, if your code has a prefix before the 6 digits, you will need to enter those numbers and symbols as well as your personal 6 digit code once you create it.

Kaba Keyless Locks p.13 of 14 This is a wonderful solution for staff who might work on several condos with this type of Lock initially all doors would have a different code assigned to the staff member but now staff can personalize each door to a single code they can remember. How do I find out who has been in my apartment? If something is missing or you want to know if a management company has put someone in the condo without your permission, you need to use the M-Unit software available with the system. At this time that means you would need to contact MAUI LOCK (Access Hardware) for a service call. Dale DeSalvo, is the authorized dealer in Hawaii for the Keyless Oracode-Kaba Locks - call him (see our CONTACT INFO page). To learn more about the software and it s availability for down load. Check with Rob Wengel at Secure Lodging (see CONTACT INFO). The software is made to work with a Palm Pilot that syncs with your computer. Standing at the LOCK with a Palm enabled with the software, you can get the info needed for entry info. What if I (or a new owner) no longer want to use the Keyless Lock Code System No problem. When your lock is installed you will be given 2 keys standard mechanical variety These keys can open the door, by passing the Oracode system and functioning as a standard door key. They should be kept in a safe place and used only for emergency access or access once you are no longer using the Oracode/Kaba/SecureLodging web interface to make codes to open the door. How does the LOCK communicate with the Internet to get codes. It doesn t! The lock has been pre loaded with a series of Algorithmic codes that enable it identify the codes you create on line. Each number, prefix,symbol means something and causes the following numbers to mean something else. No worry about power outages or Internet down time. What is the ONE-SHOT code for. Sometimes a guest will find they have forgotten an item after they have checked out. If they close the condo door after 10AM for a standard check out or 1 PM for a late check out, they will not be able to get in. Kaba encourages you to provide this ONE SHOT code when a guest contacts you with this type of problem This is the safest way to allow a guest back in (prior to another renter s code beginning) the code will not by pass the dead bolt. What if a guest forgets their code and gets locked out. The guest should contact you or your on-island agent (not the AOAO office) and get the code again. Even if they have personalized the code, the one you initially assigned will work a new personalized code must then be configured. My Agent s number is on the inside of the screen door so a guest will be able to contact her without being inside. Personally, I plan on issuing a long-term code to my house keeper to be used for guests who have this happen. That way she can give them the code without having to go to the condo and the code can continue to be used if she can t get a hold of me to remind the guest of their original code. For my staff s protection, they will not know the guest s code.
