Craig & Fred: A Marine, a Stray Dog, and How They Rescued Each Other by Craig Grossi From the second that Craig, a U. S. Marine in Afghanistan, saw the goofy-looking little dog, he knew it was different. The dog was alone, and he didn t run in a pack like most strays. Craig was certain that making friends with a dog was off-limits. Some carried rabies, and many were put to death, but this dog had a stubbornly positive attitude. He named him Fred, and other soldiers made friends with him, too. Fred gave them something to smile about when facing danger. But in order to save Fred s life, Craig had to find a way to bring him home back to the United States. Best for Grades 6-8 2019 Scholastic Inc. All rights reserved. 15244 S19 500254
