To all of the competitions Sponsors, Exhibitors and Followers, The Gympie Carcass Classic committee would firstly like to thank all of our Sponsors, Exhibitors and Followers for another successful competition in 2017. Last year s competition saw the second highest number of entries for the history of the competition. This kept committee members very busy and the competition was stronger than ever. Once again we had a fantastic response to the Field Days with large turnout for the Induction, Midweigh and Final days, as well as a packed house at our Forum and Celebration Dinner. It was also fantastic to see so many of our regional high school students in attendance, with a record number of assessor entries returned. The Carcass Classic Committee itself has had a slight shuffle, with Mick Senini standing down from the Coordinator position. Kate Power will be taking over the Coordinator role, and we also welcome Hayden Pratt to the committee as our Sponsorship Coordinator, with Nev Zerner staying on as our trusted treasurer. Both Mick and Barry still remain heavily involved within the competition, and are joined by Joe Offord, Mark Berthelsen, Justin Schooth as well Adrian and Jenny Bucknell to make up this years committee. The 2018 competition will again comprise of both a backgrouding and feedlot phase. The Pratt family have kindly donated their paddock again for this year s backgrounding period, which will run over the course of 5 weeks. Cattle will be running on improved pasture and be supplied with a dry lick from Joe Offord and the team at Goldmix Stockfeeds. The committee welcomes Adrian and Jenny Bucknell to the Carcass Classic as the feeders for this year s competition. Adrian and Jenny have recently taken over Gowanlock Feedlot and we are excited to work with them for the first time. Goldmix Stockfeeds will again be supplying the ration for the feeding phase which will run over 75 days. Induction Day will yet again be held at the Woolooga Saleyards, on Monday the 26 th of March. Cattle will be able to be delivered to the saleyards on the Sunday, which we hope will help with yarding and delivery for many our exhibitors. Cattle nominated in this years competition must be tagged as means of identification. This is of utmost importance with the increasing number of entries each year, and to ensure induction runs smoothly. Tags must include the exhibitors name, and corresponding entry number as stated on the nomination and entry forms.

The Final Weigh Day will be held on the 13 th of July at the Gympie Saleyards. However, this year the Interactive Forum and Celebration Dinner will be pushed back to the 27 th July to give the committee a much needed extra week between processing and presentations. All details for this years competition can be found on the below forms. Please take the time to read them carefully to make sure you and your cattle are in contention this year. We look forward to seeing everyone again come Induction Day and look forward to meeting all our new exhibitors and sponsors as well. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members. Please just remember to be patient as well all work full time also just leave a message and we ll get back to you. Any enquiries can also be directed to us via email at gympiecarcassclassic@outlook.com or to our Facebook page. Kind Regards, Kate Power Gympie Carcass Classic Coordinator

Prizes Judging criteria Objective Goal GYMPIE CARCASS CLASSIC 2018 To provide a environment for exhibitors and other interested parties to learn more about desirable traits in beef cattle, best on farm practices and advances in technology which are fundamental to producing beef. To identify the animal possessing the most desirable combination of the following attributes: - Suitability for the domestic market (i.e. hospitality, restaurant, institutional, local butcher, supermarket) - Profitability - Feedlot performance (weight gain) - Dressing percentage - Eating Quality (MSA Index Scores) These attributes are calculated against a pre-determined formula derived by the committee. An ideal local trade carcass has specifications of 200-280 kg dressed weight with 5-12 mm at the p8 site, marble score 1, milk tooth after 70 days in the feedlot. Charlie Cotter Allrounder: Calculated on weight gain, carcass points, dressing % and gain in value. Most Suitable Carcass for the Domestic Market: The specified carcass is 200 kg to 280 kg dressed weight, with 5 mm to 12 mm fat depth (rump), 3mm to 7mm rib fat, 0 dentition (milk teeth), and must meet MSA specifications Highest Scoring (Opposite Sex) Carcass. Most Profitable Animal: Based on first day valuation and carcass valuation. Best Aggregate of Carcasses: Carcass points added and mean given. Best Weight Gain in Feedlot: Calculated on daily weight gain and percentage of weight gained combined. 2017 saw many awards distributed over the competitors, with a total prize pool of over $16,000, not including the Classic Four which has jackpotted to $5000 in 2018. Total number of prizes will be determined after sponsorship applications have been compiled.

If cattle are treated any closer to induction day the blood will affect the performance of other vaccinations given at induction and therefore animal health is not guaranteed. Upon arrival at the Woolooga Saleyards: 5.1 Cattle must be healthy and free from ticks, buffalo fly, ringworm and must have 0 dentition (milk tooth). Cattle are not scanned and checked by the committee before being transferred to the backgrounding PIC, therefore any cattle entering the competition on the wrong PIC will become non lifetime traceable and ineligible for any prizes. 5.4 The LPA/National Vendor Declaration must accompany cattle.
