Gympie Carcass Classic 2015 Members, Sponsors and Exhibitors, Welcome to 2015! Safe to say farmers all across the district couldn t have asked for a better Christmas present this year than the one Mother Nature delivered during December. Not only do we now have grass growing in the paddock, but it has all seen the market soar. Once again this year I, Mick Senini, will be the Carcass Classic Coordinator, working with Barry McIntyre as our Overseeing Judge, Kate Power as Secretary and Neville Zerner as our Treasurer. And it goes without saying that we once again thank the likes of Jim Viner, George Cotter, Joe Offord and Terry Nolan for their ongoing support as part of the committee. After going back and assessing last year s competition we have come to the conclusion that there was only one main issue that we needed to look at reconciling. Due to the year that was, with terrible drought conditions, we saw many animals at the end of the competition that failed to make grade with inadequate fat depths. In turn these cattle were not MSA eligible, suffered with price deductions and ultimately were not in the running for any of the competition prizes. The committee has settled upon feeding the cattle for an extra week in 2015, as well as eliminating the Mid Weigh Field day. After much discussion it was agreed that disturbing cattle between the induction day at Woolooga, the second weigh in at the Feedlot a week into the competition and then again weighing before displaying cattle for the Mid Weigh day would be enough to alter the cattle s performance substantially. We believe that it is in the best interest for the cattle and producers to go forward and simply have the induction day at Woolooga, weigh cattle once only at the start of the competition, have a closed Mid Weigh and Open Final Weigh day. Cattle will be fed at Gowanlock Feedlot, for the very last time this year. It goes without saying that Les and Lois Donnelly have been a massive support to the competition and it will extremely sad not to be visiting them again in the years to come. On behalf of the whole committee we wish to thank them for all their hard work over the years it would have been impossible without them.
The Classic Four Jackpot was not won last year, meaning that the prize money has now been boosted to $2000 for the 2015 competition. Assessment competitions will be run at the opening and closing days, with prizes awarded as always. This year however, we will have a separate competition for the school students, ensuring that everyone is competing on even grounds. The students will however be eligible for all major prizes, if they do place. The Grain Price for the 2015 competition will be $440 per tonne (including GST). The grain will once again be supplied by the team at Goldmix. All cattle delivered to the Woolooga Saleyards for induction must be accompanied by a correctly completed April 2013 or newer version NVD. This is common industry requiremnt so if you are currently operating on older version NVD s it would be advisable that you contact MLA in order to purchase a newer version. You can contact MLA on 1800 683 111 or alternatively log on to your producer account online. We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new exhibitors in 2015. It is fantastic to see the Carcass Classic still growing in its 28 th year of competition. We would however like to reinforce the importance of ensuring that all your details are registered with Nolan Meats for the processing at the end of the competition. This year, all new exhibitors will have to return their Nolan Meats RCTI Agreement & Questionnaire forms with their nominations in order for them to be accepted. The forms can be found following this letter. To our ongoing exhibitors, if you have any changes of details, please make sure they are all cleaned up before or on the induction day. If you have any queries please see Kate Power on the day. Cattle to be entered in the 2015 Carcass Classic must be free of any Hormone Growth Promotant (HGP). It is advised that cattle are to be 300-350kg entry weight, with milk. This is however only a recommendation, but please keep in mind that at processing cattle must hit certain specifications to be eligible for any prizes and that price deductions are given for those cattle outside of spec (these can be found at 7.1 on the Rules and Objective page). We have just started up our own Facebook site so make sure to jump on and check it out https://www.facebook.com/gdblgcarcassclassic. We will keep this updated with posts, photos and information, from both ourselves and sponsors. See you all at Woolooga on the 21 st April! Mick Senini Carcass Classic Coordinator
