Photo credit: Yukio Kina/Poi Dog Photo When Humane Enforcement Officers Mani White and Denise Riggs responded to a call from a concerned tourist and rescued Pa ele, he was in terrible shape from a lifetime of neglect. All skin and bones, missing most of his fur, covered in bite wounds and barely able to use his back legs, this poor guy really deserved a break. INSIDE: DOGS LOVE OUR NEW BEACH BUDDIES VISITOR PROGRAM! (PAGE 5)

` Our Humane Enforcement Officers drive an average of 5,800 miles in response to an average of 900 calls EVERY MONTH in an effort to protect pets in our community. That s up 32% from last year! MHS Volunteers clocked an incredible 4,225 hours of service to Maui s pets in the past three months the equivalent support of 9 full-time workers! In the past three months, our vet staff were able to go above and beyond to provide 365 shelter pets with medication and procedures that saved lives and vastly improved quality of life all thanks to donations to the Hope Fund. We ve saved 289 dogs in the past year through Wings of Aloha and local transfers to rescues a whopping 53% increase from the previous year! Our Helping Paws Visitor Volunteer program has been such a hit, that we thought we d take it one step further and give both visitors AND locals the opportunity to spend the day out and about with a shelter dog! Kitten season is year round in regions with warm climates like Maui, but peaks during the summer months. Here s how you can help us keep Maui s cat population healthy and sustainable:

Brand new rabbit hutches, chicken coops and an aviary. New habitats for our cat ohana. FIVE new play yards for our dogs. Colorful murals, fresh coats of paint and gorgeous new plants. Change is happening at the Maui Humane Society and we couldn t have done it without your support!
