Congratulations to Susan Gruwell and her dogs, Owen and Sammi, at the Vallhund Specialty! She shared the following great news: I am still in a bit of shock from last weekend s events, at the AKC trial in Dewey. I was able to work with a very knowledgeable judge, met a Swedish Vallhund breeder/trainer from overseas here for their breed specialty, getting to learn much more about these tough, little independent dogs. Sammie did well, despite handler errors, placing 2nd on Saturday, and 4th on Sunday. Owen was the Rockstar of my weekend, finishing in 4th place on Saturday, then in 1st place on Sunday earning High In Trial. He loves his new bed!!
Congratulations to Barb Gates and Nell! They earned Nell s first herding title, AKC PT, at the Swedish Vallhund Nationals at PSR Stockdogs, Dewey. Great beginning to a super herding team!

Learn more about the new AKC Farm Dog Certification Test Does your dog have what it takes to be "Farm Dog Certified"? AKC's newest event doesn't require any herding ability, but it is an opportunity for all dogs to apply their basic training in a typical farm environment. So, you have probably trained your dog to be a "Canine Good Citizen" and maybe have even passed the CGC and Advanced and Urban versions of the CGC. (not a pre-requisite) Now is the time to demonstrate the same training when exposed to livestock and other unique sights, sounds and scents. Your dog will love the challenge!! Open to all breeds and mixed breeds. To earn the AKC title of FDC your dog needs to be registered with them. (PAL/ILP, Canine Partners accepted) The premium is available for the upcoming test on December 15th at Iron Spoon Ranch, Laveen at www.bordercollieclubaz.com PLEASE SHARE THIS NEWS WITH YOUR DOG FRIENDS. ESPECIALLY THOSE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING NEW TO DO WITH THEIR DOGS. GREAT TITLING FUN WITH OUR RETIRED DOGS, TOO! Join us on November 24th at Iron Spoon to practice for the Farm Dog Test.
