UPCOMING EVENTS Dec 1 Business Meeting Dec 4-Holiday Party at Terry Thornton s Volume 43 Issue 9 November 2016 Business Meeting Dec. 1, 2016 at 7 Come early at 6:30 if you want supper. Spring Creek Barbeque 3514 West Airport Freeway Irving TX HOLIDAY PARTY HOME of Terry Thornton and Jim Richardson 4802 Windmill Creek Drive, Parker TX DECEMBER 4 5-8 P.M. PLEASE let know Terry if you are coming. She needs a correct count in order to have enough meat for everyone. We also ask that everyone please bring a side dish, salad, dessert, appetizer, or turkey garnish, and let know what you re bringing so he can make sure we don t get too many desserts (can you have too many desserts??) and not enough veggies. Bring a $20-$25 gift for the gift exchange. Rules for the exchange are: Each participating person (18 or older) will draw a number at random for the gift exchange. Then matching numbers will be drawn at random for the order of the exchange. Once the gift is opened it may be stolen up to three times. After which it is considered retired. In other words, once it has been claimed four times it is no longer available. The Club will be providing gift certificates for the juniors, therefore the juniors will not be participating in the gift exchange. Don t forget to bring your trophies, polished, to the party so they can be re-engraved for this year s winners. If you 1 are not coming to the party, contact a board member about where you should drop off the trophy. Directions on Page 2.

DIRECTIONS TO Terry Th0rnton s for Holiday Party 4802 Windmill Creek Drive, Parker TX. Take 75 North past 635 (LBJ) and past 190 (George Bush). Take the second exit from 75 after George Bush which is Parker Road. There is construction in that area so be aware that the exit is about a mile past the Geo Bush interchange with 75. Exit Parker road, and follow the sign to merge right toward Parker Road, and then turn right or east on Parker road (at a stop sign). Travel 4.1 miles on Parker Road east. The last stoplight you will go through (and not turn!) is Springhill Estates Rd at the edge of the Parker City limits sign. Go through that stoplight and take the second left (not a light) which is Countryside Drive. Travel north on Countryside Drive.1 mile to the first street on the right, which is Windmill Creek Drive. Turn right. We are the third house on the right side, with a pond (of sorts, depending on the rain) in the front yard. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON PARKING: We have a long narrow driveway up to the house and limited parking up by the house. We can fit about 5 cars, parked slant head in, in our little parking lot. After that, you unfortunately have to park on the street. Please park on the SOUTH side of Windmill Creek, i.e., my side of the street, and try not to put too much tire on the grass as it kills the grass. This is a very very quiet street so it s perfectly okay to park with all 4 tires resting on the street. Just please park on the south side, up and down the street. It s a long street so there will be plenty of room. Just don t block anyone s driveway. I ll have some lights down the driveway so no one will feel like they might fall into the pond when walking down it. Plaques and Trophies Plaques and Trophies The awards year ends October 31. Rules and forms are on the club website. All stats and forms should be sent to Shari Degan. Absolute deadline is November 15. Mohrgold4@reagan.com For proof of obedience, rally, and agility scores, go to dogshowscores.com. This database goes back at least 15 years. Shari Degan 2801 Saddlebred Trl, Celina, TX 75009 2

Reflections on the 2016 GRCA National Specialty This year several Club members made the trek to the quaint little town of Placerville, California, some to compete and some to just watch and take it all in. Some flew and some made long vacations of their journey,, stopping at many beautiful places along the way. As I walked around the show grounds on our first day I remarked to my friends, How could I/We ever miss a National? (and I have missed a few, since my first one, a most memorable trip with the 2 Sally s in 2000). Some of us miss because we had no choice or it was too far or we didn t have a dog ready to compete. I have to say, once you are at The National whether you have a dog entered or not, you are glad you made the trip. Being around all those beautiful Golden Retrievers of all ages is like nothing else. The shopping among carefully selected vendors is an everyday affair. Not to mention seeing old friends, making new friends and connecting with FB friends in person. There were many Club members dogs competing in Conformation (some owner handled and some handed off to handlers). I believe all were able to make it through several cuts to the final cuts. Many won or placed in their classes. * See Brags for complete listings*. Obedience Titles were also earned. There also was the Top 20/Gala evening. This year I was honored to be invited to join & support my longtime friend, Linda Miller as a guest at her Table cheering on her multi-talented Gracie. Our Club had 4 members with 5 dogs in the Top 20..!!!! Unbelievable Surely this is a record for one Club. ACE, who is co-owned by Joan Dunbar was awarded the People s Choice award. The 3 highest scoring dogs by the 3 Judges were WILLIS, LORELEI and FREEDOM. WILLIS is co-owned by Cathy Meddaugh and LORELEI is co-owned by Shari Curran and Cathy Meddaugh FREEDOM was the Winner of the Top 20 competition such a Beautiful boy he is GRACIE owned by Linda Miller and EMMY who is co-owned by Shari, Kevin and Haley Curran showed flawlessly. CONGRATULATIONS to you all and your dogs for qualifying and making it in to the Top 20. One other observation I had was how quite it was compared to an All Breed Show There wasn t all that barking going on Just happy, content Goldens. What a Joy.. Kathy Felix 5
