W Welcome Since 1988 Bettws Hall has continued to work hard to produce the finest quality pheasant and partridge chicks, poults and duck growers within the UK. We have now firmly established a well deserved leading position in the Hatchery and Game Farm marketplace and deliver nationwide. We use the latest equipment and technology in our modern hatchery, enabling us to produce over 800,000 eggs per week. We rear in excess of 1.7 million poults per year over 50 different sites around Mid-Wales and the West Country. The sites are all run by Bettws Hall and each has a Manager who has total day to day control. This enables us to maintain stringent quality and performance controls, similar to those that smaller game farms have. Accountability, Continuity and Traceability are our values. In addition to our game farm, Bettws Hall also runs nine well established shooting estates around the country. Therefore, unlike many of our competitors, this enables us to have greater flexibility on delivery dates. Bettws Hall is a family run business with attentive and caring people whose traditional skills and expertise combine with technological innovations. This ensures we deliver the required quantity of high quality chicks and poults at the right time in the best condition. Thank you.

HOur Hatchery The modern hatchery at Bettws Hall is second to none using the highest standard of technology together with a team of experienced staff who have a wealth of knowledge. Automatic egg washers are used to clean and disinfect the eggs using jets, helping to improve the hygiene and quality of egg before incubation. The incubation & hatcher machines are the most modern and accurate available to the industry which helps to give the chicks the best start in life. We have an automatic candler and transfer machine which will only allow fertile eggs to be transferred, therefore cutting out all elements of disease during hatching with only healthy eggs passing through this stage. We use a Breuil Chick Counter system which allows chicks to depart from the hatchery as soon as possible having been accurately counted and rigorously graded by our trained staff. Each box includes an extra 2% as a goodwill gesture for our clients. Our fleet of fourteen temperature controlled vehicles, which are fitted with trackers, and designed to carry our specially designed chick boxes. Together with our helpful and experienced drivers, deliveries are always on time with chicks being of the highest quality. Our chicks are transported in use once only custom designed insulated cardboard chick boxes which ensures that they are kept at a constant temperature and bacterial cross contamination is eliminated.

GOur Game Farm Each year we rear in excess of 1,700,000 poults over 50 different sites spread across the Welsh and Shropshire borders and the West Country. All of the sites are either owned or managed by Bettws Hall and each has an individual manager who has total day to day control over bird husbandry. After many years of using traditional brooders, we have redesigned them to our own specification, taking the best elements and improving on the efficiency, insulation, ease of build and ultimately the health of the birds. The 16 x 14ft coups are attached to 60 x 48ft runs with fresh grass under foot. There is food and water available in the coups and runs. We utilize nipple drinkers and open water systems which allow the birds to adapt to both methods prior to release. We find Manola feeders allow for easy feeding whilst minimising waste and disease. We have our own on site vet who monitors our health plan and visits our stock throughout the season allowing us to send a health certificate with every order of poults. Our fleet of poult delivery vehicles consist of small trailers, small lorries, and HGVs which facilitates us to appeal to small orders and large order to suit the customers requirements. Rearing results have been published. This demonstrates the confidence we have in the quality of our stock, with an average rear last season of 94.8%.

POur Pheasants Over the years we have bred and reared a wide variety of pheasants for both our own estates but also our customers too. Our eggs have been sourced from France, Poland, America and of course the UK. This has enabled us to build an impressive breeding programme with the knowledge gained from different trials carried out. Although we have a significant egg production at Bettws Hall we also import eggs from selected suppliers in France. Our suppliers have to meet stringent quality, fertility and delivery criteria as well as ensuring breed quality. In our opinion we believe that the Manchurian Cross is a fantastic all rounder which continues to perform in flight, hardiness, hold-ability and taste! However, we appreciate that each Head Keeper has his or her own personal favourite and with this in mind we also offer Polish (commonly known as Bazanty), Manchurian Pure, Common Ring Neck, Chinese Ring Neck, K-Thunder, Kansas, Black Neck, Japanese Green and Melanisitic too. Setting the breed of the bird aside the most important factor is the health of the chick. With the most up to date technology and equipment in place, it enables us to produce the finest quality pheasants for national and international (Ireland), temperature controlled delivery on time every time. Ex Laying Stock We are proud of the fact that all of our laying birds are sold for release in to the wild. They are run in the laying units at a low density so they are in good condition at the time of release.

Our Partridges PAt Bettws Hall we also specialise in French Red Leg Partridge which have a proven track record for both exceptional flight and hold-ability. We use three egg suppliers in France who we have worked closely with over the years resulting in exceedingly good partridges! On request we can supply French Red Leg Partridge which contain a little Spanish blood in which can really spice things up come the shooting season. Our partridge either depart from Bettws Hall at day old stage or we rear them in our new 16 x 14ft brooders and large grass runs. Our partridge poults leave the rearing farms at either 12, 14, or 16 weeks old to suit the personal preference of our valued customer.

Our Ducks DAlthough we do not breed ducks on site at Bettws Hall due to the disease precautions in place, we do provide a large number of ducks nationwide and into Ireland too, both at day old and grower stage. The ducklings are sourced as day olds locally which enables us to follow their breeding lines closely. They are purchased in large numbers which enables us to be very competitive on price throughout the country at both day olds and growers. Each year we rear in excess of 35,000 duck growers on two different sites at Bettws Hall home farm. Ducklings are housed in brooder sheds with overhead gas heaters to maintain the temperature. Open water drinkers are used for a clean water supply and large grass runs are available for the birds as soon as the weather will allow. Both sites have a large area of open water available to them and are ideal for letting the ducks find their paddles! The ducks will be totally released on to the water for at least 2 weeks before delivery so that they can harden off and develop all the important oils in their feathers which they will need in weeks to come.

L S Selecting Our Laying Stock Having spent many years analysing hatch figures, laying results and rearing progress we feel that we have come up with the best all rounder bird which continues to perform in flight, hardiness, hold-ability and taste! Selection takes place in the hatchery and the system we have in place makes it easy to trace eggs which is vital in any hatchery for both Breeding Stock and Sold Stock. With the up to date system and dedicated staff it is easy to know all the history of the selected egg such as, its parents, its breed, its origin, its fertility rate, its predicted hatch rate and its age from lay. It is vital in your selection process to take all of this in to consideration to find the best breeding stock for the following season to come. We have five over wintering sites which will hold in total 60,000 hens. These consist of large open top pens which have been planted with strips of maize for the feed value / cover and pockets of kale for privacy. The sites contain small pens internally so that we can easily monitor the health and progress of our breeders and medicate if necessary. Then hens are run at a low density to maintain quality. The breeders are transported back to our laying site in December, after being over wintered, and are then placed in relevant units depending on age, breed, and origin ready to acclimatise before the laying season. We use this as another quality control check point to finally make sure that the layer s we are using are of the highest quality. Early January depending on sales, we gently introduce lighting where we will very gradually lengthen their days to bring the laying cycle slightly forward.
