TRIATHLON CHALLENGE The Triathlon Challenge honors the most versatile Corgi at the 2018 National Specialty. To be eligible, a dog must enter and compete in at least three (3) events offered at the National Specialty agility, herding, obedience, rally, tracking and conformation. The Corgi earning the highest number of points according to the rules during the week will be the winner of the Triathlon Challenge, and recognized at the Saturday evening banquet. PWCCA TRIATHLON 2018 COMPETITION RULES To be eligible, a dog must enter and compete in at least three (3) event categories offered at the National Specialty: agility, herding, obedience, rally, tracking and conformation (including sweepstakes). Any combination of these categories is acceptable. If entered in more than three categories, the top three highest scores earned will be used toward the challenge (except when it comes to breaking any tie score). More than one person throughout the competition may handle the dog. Dogs participating in these events, even if they do not qualify, earn points. Points, however, are not earned by dogs that are excused for lameness or unacceptable behavior as defined by the rules of that particular event. Points are awarded for whatever class or combination of classes that earns a dog the most points in each of the events. Three points are awarded for competing in an event. Additional points are awarded for qualifying, or earning a placement ribbon in a conformation class. Some events award additional points for earning a score that is higher than the minimum required to qualify. Some events reward consistency with additional points for qualifying more than once. Some do both. The maximum number of points that may be earned from any event is 20. All scoring for the top award will be done from the official Judge s book(s) for each event in order to verify the corgi has met the participation requirements (i.e., was not excused). Any errors in scoring MUST be reported within 24 hours of the posting of results for that event. If not reported then the score stands. The dog earning the highest number of points during National Specialty week is the winner of the Triathlon Challenge. Winner of the competition will be announced, and an award presented, at the banquet on Saturday. Note 1. The Triathlon Coordinator, or their designee, maintains all the records for this competition, and is responsible for gathering and recording scores as they are earned by participants. 2. All decisions by the Triathlon Coordinator and/or the National Specialty Performance Coordinator are final. POINT SCHEDULE Points will be awarded according to the following established point schedule. TRACKING Tracking tests are pass/fail, points are awarded as follows: Entering and running a track 3 Passing score: TD/TDU 15 Passing score TDX 20
HERDING All classes (test and trial) will be awarded points as below: HT, PT Fail 3 Trial NQ 3 HT, PT Pass 5 60-64.5 and Q 6 65-69.5 and Q 7 70-74.5 and Q 8 75-79.5 and Q 10 80-84.5 and Q 13 85-89.5 and Q 15 90-94.5 and Q 17 95-100 and Q 18 High Combined 19 HIT 20 AGILITY Both Regular and Preferred classes are included in scoring. All levels are eligible to enter the T2B class and the Premier classes. Scoring is based on the number of qualifying runs earned, regardless of level entered. Points earned in all events (above the three used for the initial calculation) are included in the score. 2. If a tie still exists, or no Corgis competed in more than three (3) events, bonus points will be added to the tied scores based on level of competition in each event the Corgi participated in. The highest class competed in will be used, regardless if that score was used in the original calculation. CONFORMATION Most conformation events will add points to a triathlon score. These include Puppy Sweepstakes, Veteran Sweepstakes and the regular/bob classes. Junior Showmanship, Team, Brace, Stud Dog and Brood Bitch classes do not count towards Triathlon scores. The highest points earned in any one of these conformation events count toward the Triathlon score. Points are awarded based on the number of dogs defeated in competition, since dogs entered in conformation do not receive scores. There must be at least one dog defeated in order to earn more than 3 points in conformation. Dogs defeated are determined by the number of dogs entered and shown in a class, not including any dogs excused or disqualified. The maximum number of points awarded to a class dog for any given class is 12. In classes where ribbons are awarded to fourth place: a win earns the points listed below; second place earns one fewer point, third place earns 2 fewer points, and fourth place earns 3 fewer points, as long as least one additional dog is defeated. In classes where only a first place is awarded (e.g. Herding Titled) a win earns the points as below, as long as at least one other dog is defeated. In classes where dogs are awarded Best and Best Opposite: the Best dog is considered to have defeated all the other dogs in that class, and the Best Opposite is considered to have defeated all other dogs of that sex only (as long as at least one dog was defeated) and points awarded as below. For class dogs advancing to Winners, Reserve Winners or higher; class points are dropped and the dog is awarded the number of points indicated below. This also applies to Sweeps. Points are not cumulative.
