ANBC Guidelines for Budgerigars travelling to and from the National Show Preface Guidelines which may be implemented by States/Zones to these minimum Guidelines and if so desired are available from ANBC Secretary. es where certain endemic diseases are more common than elsewhere intention to recommend one product over another By entering a bird for Zone selection the breeder agrees to these minimum Guidelines There are 3 broad aims of the following protocols ds that become apparent during the National Show What breeders need to do before sending birds to States/Zones Selection? * Parasite control and antibiotic treatment as below is the responsibility of the individual breeder long before travel to States/Zones selection and the National Show. * In the months leading up to States/Zones selection recognise potential problems in your flock and treat your flock if required for: *Internal parasites such as worms * External parasites such as scaly face, mite, lice. * Coccidia * Megabacteria * Canker (Trichomoniasis) * Psittacosis (Chlamydia) * Finally a recognised avian probiotics to balance required gut micro flora. Only send birds for States/Zones selection if you know they are in good condition and health The SQBBA would encourage breeders to try and feed their birds up in order to be carrying a little more condition, as this could help them to better cope with changes to the environment/conditions in which they are used to and the stresses related to travel. *Do not send ANY birds if there are significant health issues in the rest of the flock. *Enhance the diet several weeks before to bring bird into optimal condition for travel. * In the week prior to the zone selection apply lice and mite spray to all birds. * Cease green/vegetable feeding several weeks prior to States/Zones selection. * For 1-2 days prior to travel to Zone selection provide a recognised energy and electrolyte supplement. * Check that travel cages have been cleaned and disinfected. * Provide a note to the carers stating that your birds have been wormed etc; what you have done/given to them to prepare them for the States/Zones selection National Show Handling and treatment in the holding venue o Birds assessed visually soon after arrival and again once they have settled in. o Observation should be continued regularly throughout the time the birds are on site. o Any ill bird noticed by carers or stewards should be brought to the attention of the vet o Medications and/or fluid replacement therapy may be required. when they return home. 3

Preparation for travel back to zone What do Zones do with the birds in the week prior to travel and same as relevant parts of Travel to the National Event. too ill to travel it may need to stay until fit to travel. Handling and treatment once the birds are back in the Zones holding establishment they have received an electrolyte supplement. erably after Handling when arrive at owner s aviary ks quarantine begins from recovery. problems being passed on to the rest of the flock. y Product. Reason used Coopex Powder cleans up mites & lice, does not hurt the birds. Quik Gel Contains polysaccharides, vitamins & organic acid, can really turn a birds health around in 90% of cases if used early enough Nilstat Treatment following over use of antibiotics, which may have caused Thrush in the birds. Electrolytes To try & prevent dehydration in birds which are unwell, & give healthy birds a lift also. KD Powder If birds have a sickness problem; KD powder will hopefully hold them & prevent the problem from getting any worse Canker Medication Ronivet S, or Turbosole Chlorsig 1% eye ointment Available in cream and drops, good for clearing up eye infections Coopers Nilverm Bird wormer Avian Probiotics Balance the gut flora STOLEN BIRDS. REDLAND SPRING FESTIVAL 2014. RESULTS. The Committee wishes to thank those members who helped out with this event. It is a way of promoting the club and assisting the public with questions about their birds. Some questions are good and some are just plain stupid, BUT, we must assist all of the public as this is where our new members come from. We have all asked what we thought was a stupid question. Or we didn t ask a question because we thought it was a stupid question. But really there isn t a stupid question is there? At one stage we had Woodturners selling our Raffle tickets, because our members just did not show up, so we ran on a skeleton staff for a few hours. REMEMBER many hands make light work, so don t expect someone else to do your share. A club is only as strong as its members, so please help with the running of the club. If every member did a little bit, then no member would be overburdened. Have you forgotten about the Merit Reward System? Merit Reward for work and/or support at WRBS. A Merit point is earned by working for the club, the more you help, the more points you gain. 6

Merit awards to be awarded for contribution of labour, time & support of and in the Club. A merit point equals 1 ticket in the draw, Awards to be birds, bred from the birds that the Club will source. These birds to be bred by selected members, and the offspring used as rewards. The birds that are awarded as a reward for service to WRBS must always remain the property of the Club. If & when a member is finished breeding with these birds they must be returned to the Club. Any off spring from them will be the property of the breeder, but if any of the bred birds are to be Merit awards to be awarded for contribution of labour, time & support. Aviary Visit. Phil Edgar and Glen Winch.. Some of WRBS members enjoyed the fellowship and mate ship of fellow members, when we went for a Aviary visit, the other weekend. Firstly we headed to Phil Edger s complex. Phil has had success at the Nationals and his birds were a pleasure to see.across the broard sprectrum most birds was equal. Very hard to do a cull I feel. Birds for sale were excellent quality and those members whom obtained a couple, well done, will help your birds. Thank you Phil for allowing our club to visit. Friendly discussions about Phil s Birds. Some quality birds at Phil s. What s Pat found? Rays looking at fantastic Green Normals. 8

Glen and Damien Winch. From Phil s we travelled to Caboolture, via the Golden Arches road house.[needed a coffee fix] This is a new complex and expectations were high, and didn t take long to start drooling. The set up, the birds, and the Puppies, were completely over the top. Check out the Nesties below. A BIG thanks to Glen, Damian and Trish for a beautiful lunch and a really special social day. We all had a fantastic day out and awaiting the next event. Eyes Boggled when we arrived at Glen AND Damien s Aviary. Kids will be kids, when there are Puppies to play with. 9
