PawPrints Magazine's Homeless Cover Model Happy New Year! My name is Willow and I m ready to take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing in my happily ever after. I'm a pint sized ball of energy and love. I'm a little skinny now but I should probably be about 45 pounds. When I got out of the shelter, I didn't know very many rules about being a good doggy, but foster mom and my trainer are teaching me lots and I've already learned so much! I like playing with my foster brother and chasing the ball in the yard. When it's rest time, I like to chew on a bone or Kong in my crate and then stretch out for a good nap. Watch out, I snore! I still have some puppy mischief in me, but I like to think that just keeps life interesting. I like going on walks in the neighborhood and I'm doing well on leash. I am spayed, house-trained, fully vetted and even microchipped. I would love an active forever family with a fur sibling to play with. I'm a fun little lady who would make a great sidekick! This year I wanna go on more adventures, be around good energy, connect with people, learn new things and grow. Do you share the same New Year s resolutions? I sure hope so! For an explanation of our adoption process, application, and fees, email info@mpbf.org, visit us online at mpbf.org, or call Merit Pit Bull Foundation at 336-618-PITT. I d like to sincerely thank Michael Cline Photography for the super fun photo shoot, Robyn for being a gracious hostess, and Jeff for the Uber ride and dog treats. Well, hurry over to the shelter and adopt me - I m Taco! I m a very sweet 6-year-old Beagle boy, already house-trained, neutered, vaccinated and great with children. You re probably wondering why such a family-made dog is living at a shelter. Sadly, the only owner I ve ever known had to give me up because of his own medical issues. So now I need to find another devoted family who will shower me with affection and provide me with regular exercise - both walks and play. I could probably stand to lose a few pounds - so the whole family can be fit together! I m simply a very nice boy who will make your life a lot happier. Come meet me at the New Hanover Humane Society and call them at 910-763-6692 with any questions. I am sponsored in loving memory of Levi D. Forever number 1. My name is Simon! I have a TON of personality and I am so playful and fun. I am a young cat who is about a year old. I can outplay any kitten you match me with and completely put them to shame. I get along well with cats, kids and dogs. I am currently residing inside Pet Supermarket on Oleander Drive. When they put me in the cage, I was so excited to watch the birds in the store. I was chirping and meowing and I absolutely loved watching Bird TV. Come see me in the store. Staff have already said that I am a hoot! For more info, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or visit www.adoptanangel.net. I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you! I m Darlin (A032118) and I m a 7-monthold spayed girl. I m a sweet and friendly kitten who has been overlooked because I have black fur. If you have above average intelligence you know black kittens are FABULOUS! Please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email jhorton@pendercountync.gov for more information or to adopt me. Leo Leonidas, Sir Licks A Lot, Leah, Ken, Ni Nidas was always more than a pet. He was a friend. A brother. A protector. A confidant. A shoulder to lean on. Simply put, he was family. And not just to his momma and brothers but to everyone close to them. He openly welcomed those who came to visit (except some men, LOL) with a wiggling nub and more kisses than you could handle. (Face baths were his signature move, ya know?) He always brought joy and love wherever he went. All the customers LOVED to give him treats and he was happy to politely take each and every one! Leo s patience was unmatched and he put up with all the times everyone dressed him up and his little brothers were wanting what he had! There are many things one could say about Leo but they will always pale in comparison to those fortunate enough to have experienced all he had to offer in person. Friendship. Love. Affection. Kisses. Patience. Wiggly Nub. Family. With love, The Aunt Kerry s Pet Stop Family (Past + Present)

A spotlight on active volunteers with unconditional love for our area s animals. Timmi Evans was the obvious choice for PawPrints Magazine s first spotlight on a local Animal Hero. She has, in some capacity, helped or supported practically all of our community s animal organizations. Timmi served on the Board of Directors for the New Hanover Humane Society and provided a temporary home to some of the shelter s needy animals. She also opened her home to foster and bottle-feed kittens from the Cat Adoption Team, helped with daily feeding, cleaning and socializing of cats and kittens waiting for homes and handled adoptions for the group. With New Hanover County s Animal Control, she s fostered yet more animals in need, volunteered at the facility and currently serves on the Animal Control Advisory Board. She is very active with Friends of Felines, a local group dedicated to helping New Hanover County s forgotten feral cats. Timmi became involved with Friends of Felines in 1996 and has since filled the roles of Board Member, Food Bank Supervisor, Clinic Coordinator and has even served as President of the organization. She cares for two feral cat colonies, all of whom have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated. With all of this and a full-time job, Timmi finds time to assist two senior citizens with the feeding and care of their colonies of between 25 and 30 cats each. Timmi shares her home with her In Loving Memory of Timmi Evans This article, first published in the February 2003 issue of PawPrints, is being re-printed in loving memory of Timmi Evans, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and animal advocate. Prior to her retirement in Florida, Timmi lived in Wilmington, NC, and dedicated her time here to making the lives of homeless animals better, safer, healthier and happier. For many years, local animal organizations were grateful to count her as a tireless, dedicated volunteer. Timmi will forever be remembered as a caring, kind, and compassionate individual. She truly was a hero for animals and an inspiration to all who knew her. At a Friends of Felines Clinic, Timmi cleans the ears of a feral who s just been spayed and vaccinated. husband, the special seven (which consists mostly of bottle-fed babies, except for Priscilla Mae, whom she brought home from an animal shelter after it deemed her too old to be adoptable) and two Pit Bulls (Nikki and Tucker). Despite this combination of pets in her home, there is no fighting like cats and dogs. Nikki and Tucker are cat lovers, too. Don t let it get around, but Nikki shares her bed at night with one of the cats! Thank you, Timmi, for the difference you ve made in the lives of thousands of animals in our community. You ve prevented countless births of unwanted dogs and cats while increasing the quality of life for so many creatures. She is a person with great love and compassion for animals. She treats all the animals she comes in contact with as though they were her responsibility. She has a very strong commitment to helping people who are unable to care for their own pets. She is a true asset to our community and also to the many other volunteers whom she works with. Cynthia Kaylor, President Friends of Felines Timmi has such a big heart and can always be counted on to help an animal in need. Her foster kitties are always sweet, healthy and loveable, indicating how much TLC she has devoted to them. Jill Jones, President Cat Adoption Team Timmi is one of the most softhearted people I know. We need more people like her. Sharon Croom, Assistant Manager New Hanover Humane Society Timmi has served for 3-years on the Animal Control Advisory Committee. We are pleased she has been reappointed for another three years. Jean McNeil Public Health Division Manager, New Hanover County Animal Control

I seem to have trouble seeing at times but I'm a good eater of all kinds of worms and crickets. My life so far has been difficult but I'm ready for my loving forever home. My name is Sampson and I m the cutest, sweetest most playful pup ever! I want nothing more than to be with my people and have them love on me. I m really good at going for long walks, entertaining myself with toys and I m particularly fond of belly rubs. I m only 2-years-old, but I ve had a pretty hard life up to this point and it has made me distrustful and wary around new people. I seem to like men more than women and I m fearful of children (so no kids, please). It takes me a long time to trust people but once I do, I love them completely! I need a special adopter who is very patient and willing to help me learn that people are ok. I ve got a lot of spunk and I m very smart so someone who can continue my training would work best for me. In return, I will give many years of devotion, snuggles and laughs! Fill out an application at www.raceshelter.org/forms-and-resources. For more info, you may also call 910-579-0407. I'm a young, active, Lab mix. I've been neutered, have my vaccinations and a microchip. My foster mom has taught me to sit and wait and give love! I'd love to be with active people who want to continue my training because it's fun. I'd love to meet you! Please fill out an application online at www.raceshelter.org/forms-and-resources. For more information, you may also call 910-579-0407. Hi there! I'm Turk. I'm around 4-years-old and I'm only around 5 pounds. I'm a Chihuahua mix who is neutered, vaccinated and ready for a new home in the new year. A nice lady found me wandering and contacted R.A.C.E. When I first got to my foster home, I was scared and shy with new people. I quickly figured out that people are ok. I'm still a bit shy at first but very friendly. I'm house-trained, get along with other dogs and cats, and want to snuggle, snuggle and snuggle some more. Want to snuggle with me? Please fill out an application online at www.raceshelter.org/forms-and-resources. For more information, you may also call 910-579-0407. 8 www.pawprintsmagazine.com January 2019

I'm a very good boy who is house-trained, great on a leash, and know my basic commands. I love children, all dogs, and cats. I have even been raised with 2 house bunnies. After the hurricane, we were put outside in the backyard and not allowed to come inside. All of my toys and beds were gone and there wasn t even a dog house to sleep in. My heart is broken and I want someone to make me feel better. To adopt, email my foster mom at roseysweezers7@aol.com or call 910-547-0998 and leave a message. After being adopted, I jumped out of a car window and my leg was broken! Luckily, CARE took me in and I underwent surgery to repair my leg. I am spayed, approximately 1-year-old, and I ve not stopped wagging my tail since arriving here. I am patiently awaiting my new home now that my leg is all healed! Have you noticed the hearts appearing in the corner of some photos? The hearts designate that they are a special needs or senior animal in need of an extra-special someone. Please don t overlook them. Hi! My name is Rogan! At 6-years-old, I m a very sweet boy who loves to lay outside in the sun, and I will never turn down a dog cookie! I am fine with most dogs and have not shown any aggression towards cats thus far. I like children and I enjoy sauntering down the halls at Atlantic Animal Hospital nosing for treats. I recently completed my heartworm treatment and am ready for a new home! Please call 910-256-2624 or send an email to carewilmington@yahoo.com for more info or to submit an application for my adoption. I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.). Wouldn t you love to share your life with a darling little girl like me? My name is Petra and I m a petite Cairn Terrier mix who weighs just under 20 pounds. I once was part of a family, but they had too many dogs and had to give me up. So I came to Paws Place with a couple of other canines, including my son Einstein. I love my kid, but I sure am happy that I won t be having any more puppies now that I m spayed! I m a true lovebug, so I hope you won t be discouraged if I m a little nervous when I first meet you. Just keep petting me and talking to me and I ll warm right up! Hope you come to the shelter soon and pay me a visit. Please call my friends at 910-845-7297 with any questions. I am sponsored in loving memory of Grace Harrington. Please call 910-392-0557 to adopt us! Adopt-An-ANGEL My name is Gigi and I was a wonderful mother to four cute adorable kittens who have all been adopted. I am quiet, undemanding and do well with other animals. Move me in and there will be no problems at all. Your other pets shouldn t even notice me. I am no trouble at all. I just want a home and someone to love me. Please come meet me at PetSense in Shallotte or call Jill at 910-620-3783 for more info. Hello, my name is Smokey and I'm happy to meet you! I m a very nice, 35 pound mix who is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. My owner was put in a nursing home so now I must find a new home. I would be best in an adult-only home and can do fine with animals, but please separate to feed me if you have other pets in your home. Please call my foster mom, Sherry, at 910-523-1254 to meet me. My name is Orion and I am the cutest little kitty. I look like I am a tuxedo, but if you look closely, you will see one small spot of orange - so that makes me a Calico. Calicos are known to be divas but I only have this one small spot and that makes me only a very small diva. In fact, I am awesome and friendly and gentle and so sweet. I get along well with cats, dogs and kids. I am only homeless because of the new baby s allergies. Come see me at Pet Supermarket on Oleander Drive in Wilmington. My name is Scarlett and I am a female 7-year-old Pit Bull and Boxer mix who is fairly small in stature. I will just melt your heart! I was adopted from Adopt-An- ANGEL about 4-years-ago but my mom was displaced due to Hurricane Florence and could no longer keep me. I am great with cats and every person I meet! Look at my adorable underbite. You just have to adopt me. Please call my foster mom, Sherry, at 910-523-1254 to meet me. Hi there! My name is Minnie. I am a Labrador Retriever mix and a young girl at that. Although my chocolate coat is beautiful, you should really see these hazel eyes in person. I am approximately 50 pounds and looking for the perfect family for me. My name is Ruby and I am awesome. I am a mid-sized black Lab who does well with other dogs and kids. I am very well-mannered and generally pretty calm. I am not sure about cats since I never lived with one before. I am homeless due to Hurricane Florence. My family has been displaced and they have no idea when they will be back on their feet again. Would you consider giving me a home? I am about 2 to 3-years-old. Please call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783 if you would like to meet me. P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408 http://www.adoptanangel.net January 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 11

I'm Bruno, a Labrador and Pit Bull mix born in May 2016. I was adopted in September 2016 and lived with my brother and sisters inside the house for 3-years, until the hurricane. After that, my family split up and we all had to live outside. Our parents took away our toys, beds and blankets and we didn't even have a dog house. It was wet and cold and I just wanted to go back inside, where it was warm and dry. I am a good boy. I don't go potty in the house, and I don't pull on the leash. I even slept in my crate when nobody was home and I liked it. My first mom (aka foster mom) came and got me and my siblings and she is trying to find us another home - one that is forever. I am neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm negative. I do love to play and my foster mom said I play too rough sometimes, but when she tells me to stop, I do. I play nice with my big sister, Rue (pictured on page 9), because she is the boss. I miss having my toys and playing ball and tug-o-war. I can show you how fast I can run in my yard, I love to run! I also love to play in water: pools, hose, water bowls, whatever is close by! I love all my sisters and brother, but new dogs make me nervous. I like to jump up and kiss you all over your face when you come home and hug you. I just want somebody to love me again. I will sound ferocious when you take me on walks, I don't want anyone to mess with my family, but I never hurt a fly. (Actually, I got my butt beat by a possum). I miss having my family, and I promise to be a good boy if you give me a chance. If you want to meet me, send an email to my foster mom at roseysweezers7@aol.com or call 910-547-0998 and leave a message. I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Call or text 910-707-4372 or email info@all4cats.org to adopt! All 4 Cats My friends call me Slim and I m a 1½-year-old gray Tabby. I raised my kittens and now I want to relax and be your cherished family member. I'm not fond of other animals but I love my people. My foster mom says I am a loving and loyal lap cat. She also said something about me being chatty. I really like my scratching post and mousey toys. I'm spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and FIV/FeLV negative. Adoptable cats/kittens housed at Pet Supplies Plus in Beau Rivage Shopping center (Adoptions by appt.) For the latest kitten additions, check out www.facebook.com/all4catsrescue To meet any of our cats or kittens in their foster home, email info@all4cats.org or text 910-707-4372. All 4 Cats holds adoption events at the PetSmart in Monkey Junction on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. We aren't really brothers but we act like it. We re Stripes and Bugsy and we would love to go to a home together, but it's ok if we go separately. We are both independent boys and love a good cuddle. Bugsy is the Tabby with white and I m the Tabby without white. We are both neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Bugsy is 7-months-old and I m 8-months-old. We like to play hard and wrestle with our toys. Our foster says we are typical boys and play a little rough. We would do best in an active home with elementary or older children. We're ok with other cats. We want all of the attention and all of the string toys. Are you looking to add a little sugar and Spice and everything nice to your home? I'm just the girl for you! I love being carried around like a baby, like to play with feathery toys, and love to cuddle. I'm a really sweet girl. I'm 2-years-old and have medium to long hair. Just wait until you see all the pretty colors of my fur in person. My foster mom says I am stunning. I'm spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and FIV/FeLV negative. Technically my name is Frangelica but I also go by Fran or Franny, too. I'm a regal, Domestic Medium-Haired Tuxedo gal. I'm a little over 1-year-old and I raised 4 lovely kittens. I'm spayed and up to date on all shots. I get along with cats and I'm ok with small, quiet dogs. I'm very friendly and I like to be near my people. I like to perch on the couch and survey my space. If you come out to adoption fairs to meet me, I kindly ask that you give me ear scratches. My foster says I'm a bit nosey because I'm always investigating what everyone in the house is doing. Hello, I m Chanel! My foster mom says I'm beautiful. I look like a petite Maine Coon but I have long black fur. I raised 4 of my own kittens plus 4 orphaned kittens. I'm ready to be a kitten myself. I like to play with string toys and lounge on the couch. I'm the best of all worlds, playful, active, loving, young, polite, lap cat. It takes me a little while to warm up to people so please give me time to adjust. I am spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and FIV/FeLV negative. I m Georgette and I m an 8-month-old Tortoiseshell with a spot of white. They tell me that I m full of sweetness. I came into rescue at 2-months of age and was barely alive after having been bitten by something. I have recovered from my injuries and went through a 6-month rabies quarantine (I didn't have it). I do have some nerve damage in my left front paw. I get along just fine and am able to jump on the bed. Because of my quarantine period, I nibble a little rougher than if I had been taught better manners by siblings. I need a quieter home with no small children. I am microchipped, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and FIV/FelV negative. Please call 910-792-9014 to adopt us! I m Leroy, a handsome gray and white boy who is super sweet and chill. All I want is to plop down and be loved on. I can be somewhat shy at first and I prefer not to be held, but I make up for it by cuddling up on your lap for Animal Planet. If you re not in the mood for TV, I ll be happy just watching the wildlife out the window. I m a teenage cat (9-months-old) and teenagers are often overlooked when baby kittens are around, but I m the perfect age for adjusting to a new family and home. I m a wonderful teen-aged boy named Eddie! I ve got snowwhite fur, a pink nose and the coolest fluff of black fur right on top of my head between my pink ears. It s a perfect little toupee. I am a goodnatured boy and I get along with everyone. I m in search of a home where I can snooze in a patch of sunshine by day and chase glittery mice by night. Could I be the perfect addition to your home this winter? CAT: Cat Adoption Team We re at Petsmart 7 days a week. I m Piglet and I m so sweet! I m a 4-month-old orange Tabby boy who likes to be held. I'm the ultimate Snuggle Bug! My most favorite hobbies are playing in the water dish, chasing strings and sleeping under the covers. I will grow up to be a gentle giant to match my personality. Please think about adopting me along with another kitten so we can grow up together. Hi! I m an adorable 3-month-old gray Tabby fluff-ball boy named Smokey and I ve just arrived at the CAT Adoption Center with my three adorable siblings. We are so curious about people and will be great companions. Please consider adopting me along with another kitten so we can entertain each other while you are away (or asleep). I m a gentle girl who arrived at Cat Adoption Team with my beautiful little family. We all shared the same traits: snow-white whiskers, olive green eyes and a black and white color scheme. Now that they have all been adopted, I m looking for my forever home. My name is Anita and I m close to 2-years-old. I am so deserving of a family to call my own. LOVERBOY ALERT! I m George, and I m about the sweetest 6-month-old kitten that you ll ever meet. I m a brown Tabby with a white chest and paws. When I arrived at the adoption center, I settled right in and continued to be my little laid-back self. I love people, other cats, dogs and nothing more than to sit next to you and purr. You must meet me to understand how awesome I am! Wilmington, NC http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/nc55.html January 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 17

Cowboy is my name and making you laugh is my game! I am still a puppy at 9- months-old and I am a Treeing Walker Hound. I have no desire to go hunting, I would rather play with my toys and chew on my bones. I am already neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. I am also heartworm negative. I love to go for walks but prefer to have a big yard to run around in because I LOVE to run! I don't want to stay in a crate all day, but I am a good boy if I have to. Just don't leave anything within reach, because I will get it and pull it through and play with it! I will play with anything: a pine cone, a rock, a piece of paper, a stick! Mom says I am her "clown" and the more she laughs, the more I act silly. I play well with all the other dogs here, no matter how big or small they are. I like to bark at the cats, but they never get close enough to me to say hi. I was found in rural Pender County, on the side of the road, with my sister and two brothers. I was eating garbage - I was so hungry, I would have eaten anything. We all had something called "cherry eye" in our eyes, but mom had it all fixed up and I am looking good now! I love when it's time to eat and will do anything you want me to for a treat or some food. If you want to meet me, please send an email to my foster mom at roseysweezers7@aol.com or call 910-547-0998 and leave a message. You can see more pictures of me on our Facebook page - just search Roseys Rescue. I am sponsored by Atlas and Bonnie Mayew. Thank you! Who s that silky smooth, bright-eyed beauty? Why, it s me, Otis. I m here at SOAR because the family had to move and couldn t take me with them. I had been with them ever since they adopted me as a kitten, living an indoor-only life. They had me neutered and have kept me up to date on vaccinations. And I m litterbox-trained, too, of course! I will be doing my best to handle this big change, but I promise you that I m a very friendly boy and I ll be happy to have a new life in your home. Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and tell them you d like to visit and gaze upon my beauty in person! I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Please call 910-253-1375 to adopt us! Cat Tails This is my baby picture, but I still look just the same. Can you believe it? Same little, scrawny body. Same huge, round eyes. I m Otis and I m 8-months-old but still look like a kitten. I m sweet and playful and I get along with all the other cats here. I may be just what everyone is looking for: a kitten who will stay a kitten. I am already spayed and vaccinated and ready to go home with you today. Tinsel is my name and I just found out I missed Christmas with you. I m a 4-monthold, brown Tabby and Maine Coon mix. I have the most beautiful, big bushy tail! Of course, the rest of me is pretty big and bushy, too. Since I m too late to be the tinsel on your Christmas tree, maybe I could be the tinsel on your chair, or your lap, or best of all, on your bed. My name is Stormy. I m 5-months-old and I may be the perfect cat for this year. Think about it we ve had storm after storm after storm. We ve set new records for rain. And Hurricane Michael came through while we were still recovering from Hurricane Florence. Aren t you ready for a cuddly, friendly, playful little storm for a change? I was lost but a lady found me and we really got along well. She even named me after her walker and we went all over her house together. But the rest of the family said I was a tripping hazard and I had to go. Now, I m looking for a new home where I will be the only walker. When you come to meet me, look for a 5-month-old, orange Munchkin mix with very short legs and a very round head. You could also just ask for Walker. Joey Zion Hi, I m Joey and this is my brother, Zion. We are 4-months-old and we re the last two out of an unusual litter. We were all orange Tabbies, all of us were boys, and most of us have short or very short tails. My tail is almost normal length but Zion s is only 2 inches long and L-shaped! We are happy cats and we love to play and wrestle, so what we really need is a warm, comfortable lap to nap on when we wear ourselves out. 6622 Beach Drive SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469 www.cattails.org January 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 19

My name is Spud and I m no stranger when it comes to adventures and the thrill of travel. When I was just 7-weeks-old, alone and scared, I hitch-hiked my way from Raleigh to Wilmington beneath a truck of all places. I m not kitten you! I was certainly in need of some TLC after my long trip. While I do show some wear from my journey, my imperfections just make me all the more purrfect. During my time at College Road Animal Hospital, I have developed a unique personality that makes me even more loveable. I am playful, as well as vocal when you aren't paying attention to me. I have a daring heart that I would love to share with a pawsome family. Purrhaps you could be the one to bring me home! I tested negative for Felv/FIV, have started my vaccine series and am neutered. If you or someone you know is interested in adopting a handsome baby boy, feel free to submit an adoption application directly online at www.collegeroadanimalhospital.com/adoption-application, or call 910-395-6555 for more information. I am sponsored by College Road Animal Hospital. Thank you! Hey Y all!! I m iz Joe Joe, my foster momma sayz my name is technically Bazooka Joe, but she never calls me dat. Probably cuz I m about the furthest you can get from explosive. Unless we are talking about my farts...foster momma says dat they are explosively stanky. I love to snuggle, I would lay on the couch wif you all day and night if you let me. I like to sleep in my crate, too. Sometimes foster momma can t find me, and it s cuz I m snoozing away in my crate. Foster momma called me something the other day but I don t know what it means? She called me the pawfect dog. She says it s cuz I m soo sweet, I love dogs, and kids. She also sayz I m very kissable. I love kisses. That usually means I get to snuggle. Do you want to snuggle with me? I ll keep a spot on the couch warm for you, and I ll do a happy dance and smile from ear to ear when you get home every day. For an explanation of our adoption process, application, and fees, email info@mpbf.org, visit us online at mpbf.org, or call Merit Pit Bull Foundation at 336-618-PITT. I am sponsored by Robyn Davis in loving memory of Lou.

PAW S Place Send inquiries for adoption to info@pawsplace.org or call 910-845-7297. Hi, I m Dexter, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, but I sure am kind of small at just 45 pounds. People often comment about my beautiful coat, and I must say I m kind of proud of it. It s a rich, mahogany color. I m a young fellow at just 1½years of age and I m very playful and affectionate. I definitely like to explore new things. Want to meet me? Come on out to the shelter! Genesis here! I'm a high energy girl who would love to play ball with you in your backyard. Or we could go on walks or runs while I carry my favorite stuffed toy! I'm a quick learner but sometimes my excitement may get in the way. Patience is very important. You see, I love meeting people, so I get excited when they walk by my kennel. I m just hoping that they are coming to see me! I'm a 1½-year-old Shepherd mix who wants nothing more than a family of my own. Come visit me - we may be a perfect match! Me - Kimmie - and my ball doesn t get much better than that! Oh, wait - yes it can - I can have a ball AND a family to love me! I m a healthy, 80 pound girl who is looking for a family that loves me for me and will never abandon me. And why would they since everyone describes me as loving and playful! Come visit and let s play ball in the play pen. You ll see what a great girl I am. I m Casey, and my life sure has been topsy-turvy since Hurricane Florence came to town. My family evacuated and brought me temporarily to the shelter, but then they lost everything and had to give me up because there was no home to return to. I m a 6-year-old Boxer mix girl who just loves life. I m playful and loving and sometimes I act like a marshmallow - you know, all squishy! I m heartworm positive, but the shelter will treat it and I'll be good as new. Come visit - I d love to be in a home again! Aren't I the cutest little ragamuffin?!? They are calling me Nelson because I didn't come in with a name. We think I'm a 2-year-old male Shih Tzu mix. I am very playful and affectionate. Obviously, I need a good hair cut, and it s scheduled so don't hold that against me! In the meantime, I m being caught up on vaccinations and getting neutered. Want to meet me? Come on, no appointment necessary! My name is Brody Blue! I was rescued once as a young pup and never thought I would be in this position again, but here I am. Next year I will be 8-years-old. I really miss my human dad. He had to have surgery and then he couldn t take care of me anymore the way he used to. I m a Blue Heeler mix and weigh under 50 pounds. I get along with other dogs, and kids, too. I ve been a little sad since my arrival here, but that could all change when the right family comes along and gives me a chance at love again. Could that be you and your family? 242 George II Hwy, Winnabow, NC 28479 www.pawsplace.org January 2019 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 31

My name is Jack (A018945) and I was adopted from here as a puppy, but was recently returned along with my sister Jill, pictured below. Won t you come on over and spend some time with me? Don t I have a really sweet face? My brother Spitfire has pale orange fur. We have the most loveable personalities - we purr, purr, purr and ADORE being held. We re just 6 to 7-weeks-old and are ready to be kissed and cuddled every day by you. It s a mystery how some of the most loving, friendly and handsome cats end up all alone by the side of the road, but that s what happened to me. Luckily, one of the workers at the shelter found me! I m Barry and I ve got silky-soft black and white fur, tufts of hair that curl from my ears and the most laid-back and delightful personality you ever did see. I m just 1-year old, healthy, great with children and other cats. Adopting me into your household will be one of your best decisions! Dana Spitfire Hello! I m Elise, a 10-month-old Shepherd mix girl. My sister was just adopted and I hope it ll be me who is headed home next! I love being with other dogs and having lots of fun. In fact, it would be wonderful if there was another dog in the household for me to pal around with. Other dogs seem to give me more confidence in myself and my personality shines. Won t you hop in the car and visit me? Darla We two darling sisters were bottle-fed as kittens so we re extra sweet and loveable because we were held and cuddled so much by humans! Our feline mom was killed by a car when we were just 3-weeks-old. Now, at 8-months-old, we re healthy, happy and ready to go to loving homes! P. O. Russell Rescue Inc. - Carolinas Call 910-821-3504 to leave a message or email mcbburton@alumni.unc.edu to adopt! Often times, prospective adopters aren t interested in saving us older pets. That s unfortunate because you ll eliminate the pleasure of knowing me! My name is Buddy and I am approximately 13-years-old. I ve spent my whole life as a devoted canine companion and recently came to rescue when my human went into hospice. I miss him so much but I m still ready to bond with you. I m the type of little senior friend who shouldn t be avoided but, instead, chosen for my attributes. I m beyond all of that puppy silliness, but not beyond seeking the gentle touch of a human and doing my best to please you. I am an old man so I need frequent bathroom times. I love food, especially breakfast and dinner. I am a social eater! My back legs are not the strongest but I m currently on joint supplements. I enjoy having someone around me as I get lonely. I am neutered and vaccinated. Could you give me the chance to live out the twilight of my life in the comfort of your home, surrounded by love? Michael Cline Photography Hi, I'm Paisley, a petite Pointer and Hound mix. I m a Hurricane Florence rescue. I'm 28 pounds and around 1½-years-old. I am house-trained, I know basic commands and manners, I walk nicely on a leash and I do well in a crate or penned area. I can also use a doggie door pretty darn well! I just love playing with stuffed toys, balls, and chewing on my tasty Nylabone - oh, and I LOVE to snuggle! In my foster home, I am with four much larger dogs (50 to 80 pounds) and I get along very well with all of them. I am not sure about kids or cats, as I have not been observed with them. I am spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccines. Save a Life, Foster a Jack Russell Russell Rescue, Inc. is a national network of volunteers dedicated to placing unwanted and abandoned Jack Russell Terriers into permanent homes. All dogs entering rescue are either temporarily placed in a foster home or must remain with their owners until a suitable home can be found. My name is Peewee and I was born deaf. I show my excitement by doing zoomies and turning in circles. While I am shy, some days I get brazen enough to steal kisses. Treat time is my favorite! I would not do well in a home with children or large dogs. I need a fun, goofy canine friend my size, and a pretty laid-back home. My foster mom says I make her laugh and she loves me to pieces. She is sure you will, too! Hello, my name is Dusty Roads and I am a hurricane survivor pup from Onslow County. I can be a little skittish at first but my foster mommy says I am a super sweet boy and quickly coming out of my shell. I listen well and am house-trained! I am good with other pups (small ones, not sure about big ones), love dinner time, and enjoy all the toys I can handle. I am smart and learn quickly! I love pleasing my humans. I am 2-yearsold, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and weigh 9 pounds. Please visit us online at www.russellrescue.com for more information. Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us! SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Hi, my name is Inky! I am about a year old and a real love bug! Cuddling and playing are just two of my favorite things. I do need to let you know that I am FIV positive, but it s really not that big of a deal! Cats with FIV can live just as long as other cats! Find out more about FIV online, talk to your vet or talk to my pals at SOAR. I m a wonderful boy, please don t pass up the chance to visit and get to know me. I ll be ready and waiting! Hello folks, my name is Tulip. I moved to SOAR from Second Chance Pet Adoptions in Raleigh, where I twice tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV), but they don t have a house like SOAR does where I can freely move about with other FeLV+ cats waiting for someone nice to adopt us. So here I am, gentle and sweet, and hoping for that big break. Call SOAR for more info! Well, I m no Spanky, Darla or Alfalfa, but I am quite the Little Rascal just the same. Everyone around here seems to agree that one thing I am for sure is totally cute! I ve tested positive for FIV, but that doesn t make me any less cute or any less capable of enriching your life for possibly many, many healthy and happy years. You can find out more about FIV online, from your vet or you can call SOAR at 910-457-6340. I want to grow up as part of a family, YOURS! Ciao!! I m a fun-loving boy named Roc (A032213), but it s hard to have fun when you re at a shelter! I m a 2-year-old, red and white Pit mix who is already neutered. I came in as a stray, and I sure do enjoy being with humans and enjoying life. I was rescued from outside of the College Diner in a box with a litter of kittens. We had been dumped. All of the kittens have been adopted and I am patiently waiting my turn. I would like a calm, quiet home with older kids (if any at all). If I could choose my dream home, I would prefer to be the only pet. Of course, I would take anybody who has a patient heart because I can learn to get along with anyone. I am having a hard time continuing to live in a pet store week after week. I am SOOO ready for my home so I can finally rest. Call Jill at 910-620-3783 to meet me or come see me at Petco. Have you noticed the hearts appearing in the corner of some photos? The hearts designate that they are a special needs or senior animal in need of an extra-special someone. Please don t overlook them. Hi there, my name is Sasha! I m a teenage girl, just 9-months-old. I have the most beautiful gray tabby markings with snow white fur on my face, chest and belly. I m a friendly girl who loves kids, other cats and even dogs! I am still so very playful but I also love to snuggle with you as well. As you can see from my photo, I ve been collecting moving boxes and I ve got all my toys packed for my new home! Please come meet me at the CAT Adoption Center at Petsmart on New Centre Drive in Wilmington, NC. Adoption hours are 5pm to 7pm on weekdays, 1pm to 5pm on Saturday and 1pm to 4pm on Sunday. You can also call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 for more information. Let s get packing! I am sponsored by ECM Corporation. Thank you! I m a darling boy named Caesar and I d love to be your new family member! My shelter friends are quite charmed by me - they say I m such a gentleman, very quiet and very sweet. I sit on command for treats and make friends with every human I meet. I was found wandering along the side of the road and was rescued by a very nice lady who says I got along well with her two dogs. She got me to the shelter and I m so glad she did because I needed a little help. You see, while I was on my own, I tore my ACL. But don t worry, it s completely healed and I m ready to go have fun with my new family! If you ve fallen in love with my sweet face and would like to meet me, call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for more info! Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day! 44 www.pawprintsmagazine.com January 2019

Breed Rescues We are all from different Breed Rescues. Please read our stories! GREAT DANE FRIENDS OF RUFF LOVE My name is Ivory and I am a 5-year-old pocket Dane mix. I love everyone - from small dogs and cats to big dogs and children. I am very easy-going and laid back but I also love to play with my foster siblings and go to doggy daycare. I walk excellent on a leash and also love car rides! I am deaf but have no vision issues. If you leave a room or the house, I like for you to wake me up and let me know so I m not confused when I wake up. I love to cuddle with my humans and be lazy on the couch. For an adoption application, email greatdanefriend@yahoo.com or call 704-584-9257. Check out some of our other Great Danes available for adoption at www.greatdanefriends.com. SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS I m Mitzi, a 12-pound, 7 to 8-year-old Schnauzer mix girl with the sweetest personality! I love everyone I meet (including other dogs) and have won a lot of hearts. I love cuddling, car rides and spending time with my favorite person, which will be YOU, if you adopt me! I ve survived some hard times in my past, but I ve never let that interfere with my winning ways! I m vaccinated, heartworm negative and spayed. To adopt me, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org, email adoptions@schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org or call 919-723-7145 for an application. P.S. Mention this PawPrints ad for a $50 discount on my adoption donation! MERIT PIT BULL FOUNDATION My name is Jessup and I like to smile. Life may not always be perfect - like when you get injured and lose one of your legs - but life is too short not to be happy. Being "three-wheel drive" as my foster mom calls it, certainly doesn't slow me down! I'm pretty sure that fourth leg was just a spare anyway. The only real downside is not being able to give a good scratch to my right ear, but that's where you come in to save the day. I do well with many dogs and I also stayed with a dog-savvy cat! I enjoy going for walks, meeting new people, and laying in the soft grass to soak up the sun. To learn more about the adoption process, application, and fees, visit mpbf.org, email info@mpbf.org or call 336-618-PITT. CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE Hi, my name is Elvis and I am a happy-go-lucky guy! I am 11-years young, crate-trained, house-trained and my ears perk up every time I hear my name! I love to take walks with my foster mom any time she will go and I would even like to run with someone who jogs! I am a very spunky Basset Hound! I LOVE humans and I will immediately roll over for a belly rub any chance I can get! If you are looking for a low-key Basset Hound who can be a couch potato when you want to relax but also play and go for walks - I m your guy! If you are interested in meeting me or hearing more, contact my foster mom, Leslie, at 910-352-5150 visit www.cbhr.com. CAROLINA BOXER RESCUE Howdy, I m Hattie Mae and this is my sister Holly (don t tell her that she is not a Boxer). We re a couple of well-mannered senior girls looking for a soft, quiet place to land. Our owner became unable to care for us and CBR committed to finding us both a new home together. We re both house-trained and get along well with everyone including other animals and children. If you re looking for someone to spend your retirement years with or looking for a couple of laid back girls to join your pack, look no further. To adopt us, email carolinaboxer@gmail.com or call 910-799-5638. Visit www.carolinaboxerrescue.org for info. CHIHUAHUA RESCUE & TRANSPORT - SOUTHEAST My name is Eugene and I m a Chihuahua and Chinese Crested mix. I am 8-months-old and weigh 6 pounds. I m ALL puppy. I love to play with my foster Chi s and really love human affection. I love to play and race around. I am learning boundaries and working on cratetraining. I will be potty-trained soon. Due to no hair on my body, I cannot be out in the sun for long periods of time without sunscreen. My skin will need special attention to keep it moist and healthy. I am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm preventative. To adopt me, call 910-297-6874, send an email to carolinascoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com, or visit www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/.
