Retriever Review Volume 6, June 2005 June Get Together At the March meeting we talked about having a fun get together to grade a litter of puppies as an educational experience for the RCLRC. Heather and Jeff Jennings have a litter to be graded. The grading will be at the home of: Judy and Scott Chambers 10184 Ehlen Rd, NE Aurora, OR 97002 503-678-6933 When: Saturday June 4th at 5:00 PM light snacks will be provided. From the Editor... We do not have another formal general meeting until September. However, there will be an informal get together at Scott & Judy Chambers home for a litter grading in June. (See sidebar.) A big thank you to our B-Match judges Dan Neal, Stephanie Harris and Joan Armstrong. They donated their time and energies, so that the rest of us could have a great practice day with our dogs. A special thank you to Joan Armstrong for bringing all of her rally gear, so that we could see a demonstration of the newest AKC titled sport. A few of us took advantage of having a rally novice course set up to practice with our dogs. For those of you who don t know, Joan holds classes in Vancouver that teach obedience and rally to owners of dogs interested in those sports. For the second year in a row Royal Canin has donated $2500 to our club to sponsor our HRT and Specialty. Please stop by their booths at our events to check out their products. Celeste Volunteers Needed! Volunteeers are needed for both the Specialty and HRT. Contact the chairs listed on page 2 to see where you can help whether you are interested in the Specialty or the HRT! Rally Statistics! Since it received AKC approval in January 2005, the sport of rally has set records. 8,912 dogs entered rally trials and already 658 trials have been approved for 2005 in January and February alone. By comparison, the first year of AKC agility saw only 23 trials and 2,000 entries. Rally is intended to be a bridge between Canine Good Citizen level of training and regular obedience. Thank You! A big thank you to all who helped with the match. Bob and Kathy beat me there to help set up and ring steward! Lisa and her brother did a great job having the BBQ there and cooking! Connie, Celeste, Richard, Marilyn and others helped with obedience. It was a real team effort getting the rings up and down. Marilyn and Richard (on No sleep) are terrific in hauling the trailer and organizing it. Of course we wouldn t have our sweepstake money figured out without Greg s quick calculations. Also thanks to Susan for helping with entries and answering my questions all week. A huge thanks to Ellen for mentioning the BBQ at the meeting...gee I never thought about how it just happens!!! Everyone there pitched in to help make it run smoothly. The rally demo was most interesting. Thanks Coleen for making the fliers. Now get to work on Rally everyone!!! Thanks, Betty Royal Canin is our sponsor for this year s Specialty and HRT. Please visit them at their booth at both events. Celeste Smith RCLRC Newsletter Editor PO Box 220 Battle Ground, WA 98604
