If you operate a non grazing AFU unit you will be allowed to apply to sell cattle to an abattoir without the need to pre movement test. From 1 st July DEFRA have agreed that the phrase direct to slaughter should also include movements through a dedicated red market. You will therefore not have to pre movement test cattle within 90 days of selling through a red market as long as you have an approved AFU which is non grazing. This will apply to several of our fatteners in the winter months. It is therefore worth your while to get approval if you are in this situation as an AFU. Please contact me if there are any difficulties. There is only one requirement and that is all lorries delivering such cattle to the market must be cleansed and disinfected before they leave. The auctioneers will be responsible to monitor this. Please cooperate. At last we can compete with the deadweight without having our hands tied behind our backs. ---------------------------------------------------- FORTHCOMING SALES MONDAY 9 th SEPTEMBER FRIDAY 13 th SEPTEMBER Normal weekly market.
