BOARD MEETING 6:30 PM REGULAR MEETING 7:OO PM Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, alternating between the Adorni Center in Eureka 1011 Waterfront Drive, in odd numbered months and at The Clubhouse at The Meadows, 2520-90 Hubbard Lane, Eureka in even numbered months. No meeting in December. The end of 2017 is fast approaching (hard to believe!). This is a busy time of year for us. This year s nominating committee (Sara Borok, Cathy Wright, Jill Otto) has nominated the following slate of officers and board members for 2018: President - Linda Bergstrom; Vice-President - Jill Otto; Secretary - Kris Smith; Treasurer Patty Mendes; Board members Sara Borok, Debbie Tull, Cathy Wright. Since there were no further nominations from the floor at the October meeting, the slate will be accepted by acclamation at the November meeting. The invitation to the LCKC holiday party was emailed recently. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Chris Irvin would appreciate an RSVP so that she knows how large a turkey to prepare, but please come to the party even if you decide at the last minute. A gift to exchange is not mandatory, but it s fun to participate. In January, LCKC will hold its annual obedience and rally trials at Redwood Acres, two trials on Saturday, January 20th and a trial on Sunday, January 21st. We will be setting up on Friday, the 19th and can always use help during setup and throughout the weekend. February 3rd and 4th LCKC will hold its first AKC scentwork trials with a Sniff & Go on February 2nd. The event will be held at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale. The Premium List is available now with entries being accepted beginning November 15th. This should be a fun event. Please enter, help, watch, or all three! HumDOG s Dog Expo will be held Sunday, March 4th at Redwood Acres. LCKC supports this event with breed Booths and the Parade of Breeds. We will begin discussing this event soon. Club Activities Rally Obedience Seminar! Sandy Svensen (who was one of our rally judges from last January) gave a Rally Obedience Seminar at the fairgrounds in Ferndale this month. She explained the new signs for each class and gave some hands on training tips for some of the signs. In addition she gave a judges insight into what is and is not allowed in the ring.. Have you heard? From Jill Otto: Scotch earned the first qualifying Rally Intermediate leg in the US. He finished his title on the first day, an RI title was possible with two first places and a third place. Scotch also just passed his Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU) test. From Beth Rogers and Debbie Tull: Zip (Doonahshee Zip A Dee Doo Dah) is telling everyone that she got two new AKC coursing titles at the Sacramento DTC trial in Pleasanton. She completed her Coursing Ability Advanced Title (CAA) and finished a BCAT title (Fast CAT) in one weekend. Her fastest speed of 28.85 mph placed her briefly in the top 20 of All Americans Dogs. Have you heard? From Deb St. Myers: Here is My Zazzy ( CH.MACH Agate s Zazz Affair RN, TKI, MGX, MGJ, CGC, XF, T2B, RATO, ) We are Qualified to go to the Agility Nationals next March held in Reno. From Kimber Gradin: Liberty Run's Journey of Zeeva RA CGCA TKN NDD "Zeeva" earned her Novice Draft Dog Title in Foresthill, CA at the beginning of November even though it was a rainy cold day. In October at the Harvest Moon Classic Dog show she was awarded Winners Bitch for her second 3 point Major, and is close to earning her champion title. LCKC_November_2017 7
Have you heard? From Sandra Gould: Bruce, Merri, Tippet and I are traveling to Maine for Thanksgiving, and back. Along the way, we are stopping for rally and nosework/scent work trials. Tippet has been wonderfully successful! Besides ribbons of all colors, he qualified in these trials. Stayton Oregon. SDS (Sniffing Dog Sports). Q in both area and containers Greeley CO, AKC rally: QQ for RAE legs 4, 5 & 6. Shepherdsville KY. Greater Louisville Training Club. Tippet entered 16 events, qualified in all, earning AKC Novice scent work titles in containers, interiors, exteriors and buried. Because he earned all those titles, he now holds SWN (AKC scent work novice title for those who hold novice titles in all four elements.) Valparaiso IN. Michiana Scent Work Club. AKC Advanced scent work titles in buried, interior and exterior. Two legs each in containers, and handler discrimination. Onward! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Event Team Committee Meeting November 11, 2017 Summary Obedience/ Rally Trials (O/R) Linda will contact Sara to see what help she needs with getting info for Jan O/R trials so Premium list can get published. Scent Work Trials (SW) Premium list for our First Ever(!) Scent Work trial is up on Going-2-Dogs website and sent out! Opening date November 15 th. 125 runs per trial that s only about 30 dog/handler teams, so enter early! Hospitality for SW trial morning refreshments and lunches for staff and volunteers. Deb T and Beth; Marilyn will boil eggs. Raffle for SW trial- Marilyn will help set up table in Valentine theme. Discussion of how flow from one area to another will work and how many volunteers will be needed. Conformation/Obedience/Rally Shows (AB/O/R or Summer Shows) Contract signed and sent to MBF for July AB/O/R Shows/Trials Contacted Kathy Britton Regarding Judges Panel - No response yet Cathy W will send request for updates. Judging panel due in February. Coos KC Chair (2017) contacted by Debbie T regarding Seaside Summer Series and flyer completed. Flyer should be put on Website. Canine reproduction mobile clinic (Frozen in Time) will attend Summer Shows. Beverley Chang doing trophy sponsor organization for Summer AB/O/R Shows. All agree trophy donations need to be started earlier and with more follow-up to ensure payment. Marilyn will contact visitor centers and chambers of commerce from Ferndale to Crescent City to obtain info regarding lodging, dining, site seeing. Marilyn will also do Raffle again for summer Shows! MINUTES OF THE LOST COAST KENNEL CLUB October 17, 2017 The Meadows, Eureka BOARD MEETING: Called to order by Vice President Jill Otto at 6:35 pm. Present: Sara Borok, Cheryle Davis, Patty and Nick Mendes, Jill Otto, Kris Smith, Deb St Myers, Debbie Tull, Cathy Wright. Minutes of the Last Meeting: MSAC to approve as published. Report of the Treasurer: Acting Treasurer, Jill Otto, reported on our bank balance. The Board voted to authorize our new Treasurer, Patty Mendes, to open a new checking account with Redwood Capital Bank. The following people should be able to sign checks: Vice-President (Jill Otto), Treasurer (Patty Mendes), Show Chair (Cathlyn Wright), Agility Chair (Beverly Morgan Lewis), and, if more than four are allowed, President (Linda Bergstrom). Discussion of where checks should be stored: Treasurer will keep all but one book, which will be with a yet to be designated club person in Eureka for easy access. Discussion of how to use the debit cards, and who should have them (President and Treasurer). Unfinished Business: Donations We will discuss donations after Patty looks at our expenditures this year. Discussion of donating to Santa Rosa area fire victims. The Board will recommend to the membership that we donate $500 to fire relief associated with animals, we will look into best recipients (probably dog food sent via local feed store). Rally Clinic Sally Svenson, November 18. Can take 20 working dog/person teams, currently we have 8 signed up, need 10 to break even. New Business: Frontier has the LCKC show banner which goes over the intersection in Ferndale. They will need advance notice to find it and arrange for hanging it. Discussion of whether we need new banners or signs not now, but we will pay attention to what we use this year and think about it next year. The Board meeting was adjourned at 7:05 pm. REGULAR MEETING: Called to order by Vice President Jill Otto at 7:05 pm. Present: All of the above plus Roxanne Crawford, Marilyn Cottrell, Chris Irvin, Suzi Martin. Minutes of the Last Meeting: MSAC to approve as published. Report of the (Vice) President: We had an excellent turnout at the annual club dinner at Chapala. Twenty one members and guests attended. Jill will carry out the duties of President until the election in November, then the new President will take over. Report of the Secretary: Mail: Thank-You from Ferndale High School for the donation to the soccer program, and a Save-the-date notice for Bark for Life, which will be June 9, 2018. Report of the Treasurer: Same as above. MSAC to reserve the practice money and donations from Scent Work for use for Scent Work supplies and activities. Report of Committees: Practice: There have been regular Scent Work practices so people will be ready for our trials. Next practice, November 11. Newsletter, Website, Yahoo Group, Membership: Tina was not present, but sent an email saying everything is up to date. She is working with Coos KC regarding coordinating our shows, which will probably be called the Seaside Summer Series. Discussion of getting notices out for our events. Event Team: Have had two meetings, moving toward the goal of getting people familiar with the procedures, and spreading out the jobs. Next one will be after Scent Work practice Nov 11, at 2 p.m. Scent Work Trials: Discussion of setting up the Sniff and Go at the Obedience/Rally Trials. Probably in the bathroom, 2-4 pm on Friday. Deb SM has gotten approval for all 4 SW trials. There will be day-of-event entries for Advanced, which will close 30 minutes before the trial, but there will a price break for pre-entries. She is working on the premium list. B-OB Shows: Cathy has the paperwork in to MB-F, and will be talking to the Fairgrounds about the contract. Discussion of RV fees and spaces. She wants to get a team together to take care of hospitality for the judges. She prefers Red Lion because of their shuttles. Discussion of finding someone to mow the obedience/rally field. Deb Tull said she has ordered enough doggie poo pick up bags for all of our events. Agility Trial and Barn Hunt: Nothing new for Agility. Barn Hunt: Cathy would like someone else to chair this event. January Rally/Obedience Trials: January (19), 20, 21. Somehow, one of the rally trials didn t get paid for, but that is taken care of now. Sara needs help with calling the Red Lion and booking for judges (Roxy will do this), and arrangements to pick up the judges. Trophies will be Rovers Choice bones. Discussion of sourcing ribbons. We will try to order ribbons for all of our events from the same place. Election of New Members: David Cottrell of Eureka was unanimously elected to membership. Election of Officers and Board Members: Nominations were called for and then closed for all positions. No new nominations were received, so the slate, as presented by the Nominating Committee, will be accepted at the November meeting. President: Linda Bergstrom. Vice President, Jill Otto. Secretary, Kris Smith. Treasurer, Patty Mendes. Board Members: Sara Borok, Debbie Tull, Cathy Wright. Unfinished Business: Rally Clinic: Sandy Svenson, November 18, Ferndale Fairgrounds, $35 per working team, $20 to audit, 20 spots, will need 10 filled to break even. Two more people signed up, so we now have 10. Agility jumps: The vote was called on a motion made and seconded in August to authorize up to $1000 to buy new jumps for agility. The motion passed unanimously. Donations: We will discuss this at the next meeting, when there is more information available. Holiday Party: December 16, Chris Irvin s house, 6 p.m. Jill will get the invitation out. Chris will cook a turkey, others bring potluck sides and desserts, we will do the crazy gift exchange and games. New Business: Fire disaster relief donation: MSAC to authorize $500 in money or goods for fire disaster relief related to dogs. Sara will look into options and be the point of contact.
