TALLY TOP PET PHOTO CONTEST Be The Solution, Inc. Spay & Neuter Today 2019 ship & Marketing Opportunities

An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. - Benjamin Franklin Our Mission We work passionately to end pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our community by promoting and facilitating affordable spay and neuter surgeries. Community Need Thousands of dogs and cats in the Tallahassee-area are euthanized annually. There are simply not enough homes for unwanted animals and their litters. Be The Solution helps prevent unwanted litters from the beginning by offering financial assistance to Tallahassee-area residents for spay and neuter surgeries. Seeing the Impact Be the Solution had a record-breaking year in 2017 with 3,829 spay and neuter surgeries completed. This resulted in our total number of animals fixed to over 20,000. More importantly, Animal Shelter intakes decreased dramatically over the past several years. In 2017, the shelter s pet intake number was 5,386 a decrease of over 5,000 animals since 2009. Euthanasia rates have decreased as well. In 2009, the percentage of euthanizations was 57% of shelter intakes. In 2017, that number dropped to 23% Established in 2007, Be the Solution is dedicated to preventing the cycle of suffering for unwanted pets living in shelters and on the street. Spaying and neutering pets is vital to ending pet overpopulation in our community. Unwanted pets often end up in the shelter and face the possibility of euthanization or live a dangerous life on the streets where disease and early death is common. Consider these sobering statistics: One female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats in seven years One female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs in six years The average cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising a litter of puppies or kittens 12,000 10,000 8,000 10,450 Shelter Intakes vs. Euthanasia 9,490 8,369 8,922 7,453 On average, it costs U.S. taxpayers approximately $100 to capture, house, feed, and eventually euthanize every homeless animal. * The statistics above were reported by SnapUS.org 6,000 4,000 2,000 5,958 4,981 3,925 4,191 3,311 5,994 2,483 5,382 1,672 5,121 1,244 5,386 1,255 0 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 Animals Brought into the Shelter Animals Euthanized

It Takes a Village Providing low-cost and no-cost spay and neuter vouchers takes a community-wide effort. Through a growing network of volunteers, veterinarians and donors across our community, we are able to fund this vital service. Who Funds the Surgeries? Local Veterinarians Be the Solution Our Clients The Tallahassee community is fortunate to have a number of talented and caring veterinarians. Be the Solution has partnered with several of these generous individuals who donate the bulk of the surgery cost. Each month, they spend their time, staff time and resources to provide spay and neuter surgeries for a fraction of what they normally charge because they, too, are committed to ending pet overpopulation. Without their help, our program would not be possible. The next largest portion of the cost is paid by Be the Solution. As a 501(c)3, we rely on a number of fundraising efforts and volunteers in order to cover the costs and keep the program going. We raise the bulk of our funds through our signature event, Tally Top Pet. Since it s inception in 2011, it has become a beloved community contest that has captured the heart and support of Tallahassee. Our other funding avenues include The Fix Thrift Shop, grants and community donors. Each time we issue a voucher, Be the Solution takes the time to explain the costs that are shared to provide this valuable service. For those clients who receive public assistance such as Food Stamps, Medicaid or Disability, they have a $5.00 copay as their contribution towards the cost of the surgery for their pet. For clients who are not on any form of public assistance, their co-pay is $20.00 per cat and $30.00 per dog. Not surprisingly some of our clients have turned into donors once they are on their feet again. Together, We re Making a Difference Since 2007, our combined efforts have resulted in seeing more than 20,000 animals fixed, keeping countless more out of our shelter and off the streets. Spay & Neuter Today Meet Carter the 2016 Tally Top Pet Our 2016 Tally Top Pet was Carter, a sweet senior dog who spent his days at Bainbridge Decatur County Humane Society. Thanks to the support of the good people at the Bainbridge Decatur Humane Society, Carter not only got a lot of attention and votes, he also got adopted and is now he s spending his retirement years in a happy, loving home. If you are in search of finding a pet to provide a forever home to, we hope you ll keep them in mind. They have a whole lot of pets and even more heart! Our 2016 Tally Top Pet Meet Rudyduke Like many of the stories shared during Tally Top Pet, Rudyduke is a rescue dog. When he joined Rob and Angie Wyche s family, he was malnourished, deaf and anxietyridden. He also had no trust in people due to very little positive human contact. None of this dissuaded Rob, co-founder of VOCAL - the Voices of Chance Animal League. He removed his communication barriers by teaching Rudyduke sign language and while he was at it, removed the critters living in his coat to make him more comfortable. In time, Rudyduke learned to trust and felt and fell in love. Our 2015 Tally Top Pet Stories like these flood the Tally Top Pet website along with votes. From rescue dogs to services dogs, shelter animals to designer breeds, owners of animals of all shapes and sizes participate in Tally Top Pet to celebrate their animal companions and support a cause they believe in.
