BREEDPLAN A Guide to Getting Started

Transcription:

Cotter Suffolks and White Suffolks, with Wongarra Poll Dorsets Cotter Suffolks and White Suffolks is a family run business, located in the Western Districts of Victoria. The Stud was established in 2004 initially trading as 'Nangana Star Suffolks', and in more recent years transitioning to its current title. The business is focused on breeding superior terminal and stud sires. Offering rams designed for ease of lambing, outstanding growth rates and exceptional red meat production. Studs ewes of high fertility, reliable mothering ability and sound conformation are often on offer also. As a stud we incorporate both sires from within in our bloodlines and introduce genetics into our breeding program to ensure we are moving forward and remaining viable for the commercial market. Our Suffolks bare their origins from long standing studs including; Pine Ridge and Allendale, while our White Suffolks were founded from Allendale, Gemini and Baringa bloodlines. Suffolks- The Suffolk is highly regarded for their fecundity, ease of lambing and fast maturation traits, ideal for the sucker lamb market. They are excellent choice over both Merino and first cross ewes for their self-marking ability within a mob. Our Suffolks are bred to suit both the commercial and stud market, with our breeding focus being cantered around producing a medium framed animal, highly muscled with fast maturation and sound confirmation. In conjunction to this we aim to produce animals of good temperament and longevity. White Suffolks- Our White Suffolk stud is a sister stud to the Suffolks. We have been breeding quality White Suffolks for 13 years. Our stud sheep retained are classed for clean faces and legs with a wellmuscled, long top line and strong hind quarter, to suit commercial prime lamb production. All our sale rams are well grown and ready to work. Carcass plus figures and pedigrees are available for all sheep. Poll Dorsets- Wongarra Poll Dorsets was established in 2016 by the Cotter family as a response to enquiry and local seasonal conditions where fast maturing sucker lambs are sought after by local processors. Wongarra Poll Dorsets was founded with ewes sought from Leenala and Johnson Bros with an AI program using Meat Elite sires such as Bundarra Downs 6930/15, Polambi and Derrynock rams. We are always happy to discuss breed direction and processor preferences. All rams are Gudair vaccinated as well as being up to date with Glanvac 6S-B12. Rams were last drenched on the 7th of October with Vetmec. It is, however, advisable that you update your new Ram to suit your enterprises drench and health management programme. Ovine Brucellosis accredited free-3578.

Johnos Health Record - Accredited Brucellosis Free (Accreditation No. 3555) - OJD Market Assurance Program MN2V (Accreditation no. VS 1164). All rams approved Gudair vacc. - Vaccinated with 6in1 and Euryvac at Marking & Weaning - Last 6in1 vaccination in May 2018. - Shorn and treated with Magnum on 25th June 2018. Last drenched with Vet Mec on 18 August 2018. In the interest of the longevity of your purchase we would recommend bringing any purchased rams into line with your current health and worm control programs. All sale rams have previously been fed grain through a self-feeder however have not had any grain since the 25th July 2018. If you plan to feed grain we recommend introducing it as per grain feeding guidelines. The 1st 8 lots have been on a show ration up to the 7th October 2018. maternal traits such as fertility, milk yield and growth rate. Their official $uperborder yellow ear tags can easily identify $uperborder$ rams. To qualify as a $uperborder a Border Leicester ram must be above average for the breed based on the BLX index (Border Leicester Cross Index). The 50th percentile (average) index value is calculated at the 15th of August LAMBPLAN run each year and used to determine $uperborder$ rams for that selling season. The 2018 cut off figure for the BLX index to be classed as a $uperborder ram is 114.5. The Border Leicester Cross Index has been developed for production systems using Border Leicester sires crossed to Merino dams to produce first cross progeny. The index helps to promote high early growth and maternal ability, improve reproduction and maintain fleece weight. The index also recognised the importance of maintaining adult weight over time. Not all rams sold by $uperborder members are necessarily $uperborder quality, but are bred by committed, registered breeders striving for genetic gains. $uperborder rams must be structurally sound and of good breed type. The $uperborder$ group is made up of a number of studs across 5 states who work together in meeting market requirements for objectively measured maternal genetics in the Australian Lamb Industry. At Johnos we believe the best way to improve our stud management is to surround ourselves with experts in the field and being a part of the group ensures we receive advanced genetic, flock management and recording advice to help with faster genetic gain in our stud. First cross lambs sired by 100% $uperborder$ rams may be sold as Bred from $uperborder$. Special yellow pen cards and $uperborder$ ear tags are available to identify these animals. Please speak with us if you would like either of these marketing materials. $uperborder$ is the brand name for Border Leicester Rams that are of high genetic merit in
