virginia conference veterinary February 21-23, 2019 The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center

A LETTER from the Conference Chair The Virginia Veterinary Conference is well known for its beautiful venue, the Hotel Roanoke, great food (at the hotel or downtown Roanoke) and world class continuing education for all veterinary professionals. This year s conference takes place Thursday through Saturday, February 21-23, 2019. The staff and volunteers at the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association have, once again, assembled an engaging and relevant list of topics from small animal to equine to food animal to public practice. Topics range from surgery to medicine, from the uses of cannabis to personal wellness (those last two topics may or may not be related). The VVMA starts the conference on Thursday at 11:00am with a board meeting. Anyone may attend and is encouraged to do so. Board member practitioners from across the state, representing all Virginia members will be there. Guests spanning the breadth of veterinary medicine will be contributing updates and wisdom: our state Veterinarian, Virginia Maryland College of, state Department of Health, LVT colleges (Blue Ridge Community College and NOVA) neighboring state VMA s, and the AVMA. This is a great time to meet the leadership and join the conversations of our profession. If you would like to attend, please email Robin at the VVMA office (Robin@vvma.org) and we will pull up a chair for you. Thursday evening will include a welcome reception with hors d oeuvres and drinks, and two hours of CE credit with a presentation by Dr. Kimberly Pope-Robinson entitled "Training for the Marathon we call a Career in." Like a marathon, a successful career and lifestyle requires planning and training to sustain our well being. Dr. Pope-Robinson is a veterinarian and author of the book "The Unspoken Life." Friday's keynote address will again feature Dr. Pope-Robinson with a signature presentation entitled "Finding Sustainability in our Careers within." Attendance will include 1 CE credit. On Friday and Saturday, our exhibit hall will be open and our continuing education tracks will be running from 8am until 5pm. Tracks include Public Practice, Food Animal Practice, Equine Practice, and two Small Animal Practice rooms. Up to 15 hours of Continuing Education will be available over the two days. Breakfast, lunch and breaks are in the Exhibit Hall and strategically scheduled to allow plenty of time to visit and engage with these important sponsors. We are so grateful for their support; their generosity contributes to and elevates the quality of the conference. Join us Friday at 5:00pm for beer, wine and light hors d oeuvres in the exhibit hall for our Exhibitor Appreciation Reception followed by the Virginia Veterinary Awards Ceremony from 5:45-6:45pm. You will still have plenty of time for a delicious dinner at the hotel or downtown afterwards. We, at the VVMA, are excited about this conference and will be delighted to see you there. Catch up with friends, meet new colleagues, and enjoy the excellent continuing education and conversation. A special thanks to the VVMA staff Robin, Talya, Victoria and Amy - and the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners, the Virginia Academy of Food Animal Practitioners, the Virginia Association of Licensed Veterinary Technicians and our conference committee Dr. Jason Bollenbeck, Dr. Melinda McCall, Dr. Jay Margolis and Dr. Marty Betts. Thanks for all of your help and support. Sincerely, Kelly Gottschalk, DVM Kelly Gottschalk, DVM VVMA President-Elect & 2019 Conference Chair 2019 CONFERENCE SPONSORS PLATINUM GOLD SILVER BRONZE
