JULY MEETING PROGRAM - JULY 9TH @ 7PM The OKC is proud to have Nancy Schaff from Waukesha, WI present a program on Freestyle - Dancing with your dog! Here is a little more about Nancy How I got interested in Freestyle! My interest in dog started when I was very young, no kids to play with in our area so my parents bought me lots of pets to play with, and teach when I could. I had tons of dogs, a pony, chickens birds and a lamb. I was married and raised 3 children and then divorced, and re married a wonderful man, very caring especially of the animals I like to keep. I was working at an advertising agency, and sewing a lot. So my friend says how about making me a dog coat, so of course I love a challenge, and I started sewing dog coats and selling them for years. Then one Dec I had been invited to For Pet's Sake in Mukwonago, to sell some of my products and see what was going on. They had a performance of People dancing with their dogs, and that was it. Dolly (A golden) was 9 at the time and I started dancing and training with her at that club, So many years later, there was Stanley (a rescue golden), and then this beautiful puppy Charlie, who by the way is Dolly's great, great, nephew. Of course there was this first dog Winchester (also a golden who was just my good ole boy) I had him/charlie in some of the early socialization and obedience classes, and then the teacher Mary Ann Courtley who had been the teacher of Freestyle for many years asked me if I wouldn t consider coming to her classes, And I did. So as you can see Charlie has had a ton of exposure, and i think has learned from the best. Then it was off to competition, was I scared. Only 4 competitions later we have a title in Beginner Musical Freestyle, Sassy Senior Beginner Freestyle, and now a 2 legs in Novice Musical Freestyle, and I am currently working on the third for a title. We will be competition in Peoria IL in Aug. so wish us luck! Thanks to everyone who came to the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test on Monday, June 9. It was great fun! Fourteen dogs were tested and thirteen dogs passed! I think that's the highest percent of passes that we've had! What joy to watch these dogs and handlers go through the required elements and achieve success! Thank you Bob Bougie, Lynsie Bernier, Helen Briwa, Irene Campbell, Alissa Eichman, Cris Lewis, Jeanne Murawski, and Cindy Vienola. These people make the CGC a test that's welcoming to all comers. Thank you for sharing your talents. August 2014 newsletter deadline for items July 26th Barb Stanek

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN A SUCCESS Fun was had by all at the June 9, 2014, Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC). Held at the Oshkosh Kennel Club (OKC) clubhouse, the CGC event allowed OKC students, OKC club members, and the public to try the first level of American Kennel Club (AKC) obedience with their dogs. Successful dog/person teams earn a CGC certificate or a CGC title from the American Kennel Club. This June, the CGC raised $100.00 for OKC. Fourteen dog/handler teams tried the CGC. Thirteen of the teams earned certificates or titles. In all, twelve purebreds and two All American dogs were tested. The event could not have happened without the enthusiastic volunteers Bob Bougie, Lynsie Bernier, Helen Briwa, Irene Campbell, Alissa Eichman, Cris Lewis, Jeanne Murawski, Cindy Vienola, and Barb Waltenberry! Each of the volunteers helped make the candidates feel at home while testing the obedience of their dogs. Please join me in thanking them when you see them. We also gathered a bit more information about our CGC candidates. Are you an OKC member? Yes = 8 No = 6 Have you taken a class at OKC? Yes = 3 How did you hear about the CGC? E-Mail to the club = 1 Website = 3 Winnegamie Dog Club = 2 Barb Stanek = 2 Jody Hergert-Andresen = 1 The poll results show that we offer a service to the public as well as our club when we offer the CGC. Thank you all you who encourage people to try the CGC! Mark your calendars. The fall Canine Good Citizen Test will be November 3, 2014. Start training those dogs and plan to join us then. If you have any questions or comments, or want more information, please contact Barb Stanek at 920-267- 0637 or stanekbarb@gmail.com or check the AKC website at www.akc.org.
Thank You! Thank you to the following volunteers for their help with the May obedience and rally run thrus: Danae Steele, Annette Brzozowksi, Helen Briwa, Mike Dismer, Cindy Bohnert, Karen Combs, Bob Bougie and Anne Haberkorn. We truly appreciate your time and talent in helping to make our run thrus a success. Jody Hergert-Andresen Cindy Siekierke Committee co-chairs +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thank you OKC volunteers! A big thank you to the following volunteers for their help with obedience and rally run thrus in June - Cris Lewis, Irene Campbell, Terry Rudolph, Bob Bougie, Jill Siebecker, Cindy Bohnert, Jenell and Kyle Riesner, Nancy Zolkowski and Barb Stanek. Thank you for making run thrus a positive experience for our guests and their dogs. Jody Hergert-Andresen Cindy Siekierke Committee co-chairs There will be no obedience or rally run thrus during the months of July and August. Our next scheduled date is Friday, September 5th. I will be in touch in August to see who is available, but you are welcome to email me anytime. Cindy Siekierke has resigned as co-chair for run thrus but will continue to volunteer as her time allows. If anyone is interested in joining me as co-chair, just let me know. Duties include setting up the dates, posting them on our club calendar, adding dates to a flyer for distribution, sending our flyer to other clubs from time to time, corresponding with volunteers, sending a committee report to the president if we are not able to attend monthly meetings and then the actual night of run thrus. As Cindy does not have a computer I have done most of the above duties and will continue to do so. I have agreed to continue chairing run thrus through May 2015. Cindy and I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped us with run thrus. Your participation has helped to make it fun and enjoyable and honestly, without you all we would be able to do is to set up rings and allow people to work on their own. So, with your help we are able to make it a more "trial like" experience for those who participate. Cindy and I have had a great time working together for the last 2 years and a big part of that has been the great help we have had. Take care and have a wonderful summer! Sincerely, Jody Hergert-Andresen Cindy Siekierke +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Membership Report By Marian Fenlon Last Call for Membership Renewals. Member Notes and Quotes Maya's Summer Sunrise OA,AXJ,NF,CGC,TN-N German Shepherd Dog Adopted and loved by Jody Hergert-Andresen Maya and I completed her AXJ title in AKC agility. This title requires 3 legs in Excellent Jumpers. We earned a first, second and third place in our 3 legs. Maya is a lot of fun to train and she is inviting me to become a better handler. She is fast, confident and needs a little more space than I am used to giving. There are always new things to learn! Cirrus Sky Dancer CD,RAE,MXP2,MXPB,MJPB,CGC,EAS,TG-N,WVO,NJC,O-TN-N,HP-N,NW1 German Shepherd Dog Adopted and loved by Jody Hergert-Andresen Cirrus completed his O-TN-N title in NADAC agility. This title requires six legs in Tunnelers (all tunnels!). Cirrus earned 3 first places, 2 second places and 1 third place. Although Cirrus is retired from AKC agility due to arthritis, NADAC offers several non-jumping classes which many older dogs just love. He is still having a great time and we just do one or two runs. Our little Daffy, Barberry Jonquil, passed her CGC test on the first try with no retakes. This at a mere five months old and with me having been out of town for the month preceding the test. We're looking forward to RN and BN in the near future for this delightful little dog-person. -Barb Waltenberry Gone to the Rainbow Bridge Beau's Golden Bear, ThD, CGC 5/1/2002-5/29/2014 Adopted and loved by Jody and Dave Andresen After 20 months of living with degenerative myelopathy, we helped Beau pass at our home on May 29th. Beau was a wonderful, gentle dog who we adopted at 2 years of age. He was a certified therapy dog and loved going to Evergreen to visit the residents there. When his back legs became too weak to walk, Beau adapted to a cart with much enthusiasm and enjoyed being able to be independent again. He had an inspiring attitude and taught us a lot about having a good attitude despite your limitations. He greeted every day with a smile and is greatly missed.
