Page 3 Rally & Obedience Trial Manager s Report The Club held its annual May trials on the weekend of 16 th and 17 th May. The weather gods smiled on us and we had enough helpers to do all the jobs associated with the trials and there were plenty of qualification cards handed out. All in all it was a successful weekend. I d like to thank the following people for their cheerful and tireless efforts over the weekend without your input the trial would not have been the success it was. Thanks go to Kevin Felmingham and his team Colleen Davis, Karen Richardson, Ben Osmotherly, Judy Burns and John Witte who set up the rings on Friday morning and made sure there were plenty of bins and that everything, inside and out, was clean and tidy. Jean Witte, Julie Hourigan and Janet Palmer who organised the food for the canteen and the judges meals and to Rhonda Monshouwer who worked tirelessly both days alongside these ladies to serve food and drink to the competitors. Carol Maloney, Maureen McDonald, Marg Moloney and Maree McCabe contributed to the lovely goodies on sale. Thanks ladies. Grahame Gossow and Ben Osmotherly turned up very early on Sunday morning to fire up the BBQ so that the competitors could start the day with a good breakfast there s nothing like a fresh bacon and egg roll on a fine, nippy morning! Judy Burns did a super job selling raffle tickets both days and making around $200. It s easier folks just to have some gold coins on you because Judy doesn t forget to come back and ask you again if she knows she s missed you on the first round! Stewarding duties were undertaken by a number of willing helpers: Maureen McDonald, Helen Vernon, Chloe Barakt, Karen Richardson, Grahame Gossow, Jan and Ray Tritton, Chris Adamczewski, Colleen Davis, and Ben Osmotherly. Chloe and Karen had never seen a trial before: they quickly learnt their stewarding duties and are now inspired to train their dogs so that they can compete in the next one! Ben doesn t even own a dog but he helps us out so often, cheerfully doing whatever needs to be done, that he has been made an honorary member of the club. Sara Reid undertook the office duties, checking competitors in both mornings, writing up quali cards, generally keeping on top of all the paperwork and setting out the trophy tables. Sheridan Hicks undertook the VCA Representative duties for the weekend. Fortunately there were no incidents or complaints so Sheridan just had to complete the paperwork. To our judges Elaine Temby, Judy van der Vegt and Sheridan Hicks, thanks for standing outside all day and concentrating on what the competitors were doing and for the advice you so generously gave competitors who were having some problems. I hope your feet have recovered. All those people who helped pull down rings and packed all the equipment away were magic. Within 40 minutes the grounds were cleared and back to normal. And finally, a big thank you to Kevin who rode shotgun all weekend because I was judging for most of it and couldn t do this myself. Thanks Kevin. Our next trials are on 15th and 16th of August. This will be an obedience and agility weekend. I look forward to seeing as many club members as possible competing and helping out. Patricia Looker 3
