East London Port Rex Lions - We Serve A Purr-fect Project East London Port Rex Lions Cares For Those That Cannot Speak For Themselves It has been so gratifying for East London Port Rex Lions to donate a Wendy House-style of construction to Pet Pals to provide a home for abandoned and rescued cats. Without doubt, this is no plain, ordinary shelter. Not at all! The East London Port Rex Lions have sponsored the building and furnishing of a roomy wooden cabin, filled with comfortable upholstered chairs and cushions, baskets and boxes, mounted ledges for the cats to leap up and even sleep on, a patio replete with a hammock for outdoor siestas and all manner of cat toys and amusement items to please its rescued variety of felines. On Saturday, 10 March 2018, the East London Port Rex Lions with the Hudson Park Lions Cubs visited this cattery at Pet Pals. Members carried in almost one ton of food that was donated to assist and augment the feeding programme to benefit the many cats and dogs that are offered a home at Pet Pals. Alarm bells rang loudly when we were informed that, had we not donated this food, Pet Pals would soon have run out of food for its furry four-footed residents. Food is Number One on Pet Pals Desperate Needs list. East London Port Rex Lions and the Hudson Park Port Rex Cubs laid out an attractive garden for the cats as part of the Club s Legacy Project. What a wonderful Legacy Project, serving such a worthy cause! These homeless kitties purred with pleasure, enjoying the love and attention from their visitors to their fully-equipped home. Everyone experienced an Ah Ha! moment. What we all hope and pray for is that these adorable cats will find a family to adopt them and love them forever, which is all that they deserve. In the meantime, for East London Port Rex Lions, it was heartwarming to spend a morning during which the cats had company, human bonding and generous bowls of food a much-deserved treat for those that want nothing but love, kindness and a full tummy. This visit was special for all creatures great and small. DG Tillie and 2nd VDG Pieter paid a visit to this wonderful project and see photos on next page of visit.

Knysna Lions - We Serve A very touching letter received by Lion Olwen after recent cataract surgery for patients in Knysna.. Sponsored by Knysna Lions. Hallo Olwen, I just want to say a HUGE thank you to the Knysna Lions for my new 'eyes'. I have had both lenses replaced but only learned with the 2nd op that these operations are funded by the Lions. I always thought it is done by the Dept of Health. Please convey my thanks to you branch, and know it is appreciated very, very much. I could not afford to get a new pair of glasses and here I am with brand new lenses! Yours truly Rickie Storbeck 0725558922 Truly a Gift of Sight Gonubie Lions - We Serve An exciting update on our art exhibition held in October 2017 at King's Mall in aid of The Carel Du Toit Centre where deaf children learn to speak is that we raised R17,000.00 for this very worthy centre. Many thanks to all artists, advertisers, supporters and the management of King's Mall, without their loving care this would not have been possible. Lion President Lyn handing over the cheque to the principal, Paula Kumm, of the Carel du Toit Centre where deaf children are taught to speak. A Gift of Sight Nkompeni is a seamstress who was in desperate need of specs. Our local optometrist kindly tested her eyes free of charge and were so pleased that we could help her to carry on earning an income. Cape Recife Lions - We Serve Cape Recife Lions and Ladies recently assisted with the CANSA Shave-a-thon in Walmer Park Centre, Port Elizabeth. Well done to all involved..

Uitenhage Lions - We Serve Uitenhage Lionesses donation to Save a Pet The Uitenhage Lioness Club Branch has hit the road running and donated a total of R 2240 to save a pet in Greenbushes. Down but not out An example to all Granny Hall (fondly known as gran) by all who know her, has been knitting for Lions when Dudley Godfrey was our DG. DG Dudley s wife Yvonne, made Care bears her theme for the year. Gran sourced scraps of wool from friends and knitted over a 100 Care bears for Lions to distribute to children in hospital, as well as Social Workers and Police stations. She knitted Mother Theresa jerseys and in DG Bokkie s year knee blankets for distribution to the elderly in need. Gran recently suffered a heart attack and subsequently had a bad fall but continued knitting for those in needs. It is therefore with pride that the Uitenhage Lions Club is now able to help gran with a commode and wheelchair. Even during her time of convalescence she continues knitting and has roped in her carer to continue providing for those in need.truly an example to all of us who as members of Lions strive to live the Lions motto of We Serve, said PDG Bokkie of District 410D. LEO enter Relay Team for overnight CANSA Relay for Life The Uitenhage Leos entered a CANSA Relay for Life team for the overnight event which was held on Friday 23 February 2018 from 18h00 until 06h00 on Saturday 24 February 2018. The Relay for Life is an event that raises much needed funds to support CANSA s prevention, education, early detection, advocacy and patient care programs. Each community Relay for Life is special and is part of a national and international movement in the fight against cancer, said Leo Convener Christo van Eyk of the Uitenhage Lions Club.

Dreams can come true, You don't need wings to fly. 3. It's okay to be different 4. And always believe in yourself even if nobody else does. Potjie Plesier EL Port Rex Lions Style Nothing quite beats potjiekos, making friends and helping others in a fundraising event. In the spirit of fellowship in Lionism, the East London Port Rex Lions took part in the annual potjiekos competition which was hosted and organised by the East London Cambridge Lions. The East London Port Rex Lions extend many thanks to Roni and the East London Cambridge Lions for organising this event in aid of raising funds for McClelland Home for Adults. As always, the East London Port Rex Lions were eager to join in to show our support for our fellow Lions clubs. What a perfect day! As pots boiled and bubbled and secret concoctions brewed, all the teams hid their secret recipes and ingredients while the McClelland residents and staff stood by in anticipation ready to savour the traditional South Africa stewy delights. The day was filled with dancing and a scrumptious lunch. It was difficult to choose whose potjiekos to taste. The only solution was to purchase one bowl of each and maybe go back to purchase a second or third helping. It was all for a wonderful cause- so why not? Diets can begin on Monday. To our surprise, East London Port Rex Lions won the prize for the best potjiekos. Thanks to Lion Ivan, our head chef as well as Lions Owen and Chow. These gentlemen certainly did us proud. Viva! We are extremely proud of this achievement! All in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the time spent at McClelland. It was a ton of fun to share in fellowship and support East London Cambridge Lions in their fund-raising project. There is only one caveat! Now that we have won the potjiekos competition, does this mean that all the other Lions Clubs in District 410D will arrive at our next meeting, expecting to sample our winning potjiekos? 28.02.2018 Lions sell food at Bowls in town, business league... All proceeds from the food sales will go towards the upgrading of the swimming pool at Port Alfred High School.

Sedgefield Lions Club - WE SERVE 17th February.(right) We inducted Pedro Goncalves as a new member. He has already improved to be invaluable! Sunday 18th February (left) Lions and friends volunteered as marshals for the OCC wheelchair challenge held in George. A most humbling experience. Saturday 24th February saw the Leos assisting CANSA with their Shavathon Day and challenging the Lions to have their hair sprayed!! A whopping R 4700 was raised. March 10th Sedgefield Lions once again manned 3 water tables for the Sedgefield Striders Tortoise Tuff Marathon --and brought the trophy for the best table back home again for the 3rd year in a row!!

Uitenhage Lions host steak evening The Uitenhage Lions Club invited the local Community to support their steak evening which was held at the Despatch Rugby Club on 24 February 2018. The evening turned out to be a massive success with just under 300 people in attendance including a large rugby contingent of players, family and supporters from Argentina. The photos tell it all as the club braai masters had their hands full for the evening with our visitors from Argentina preferring their much underdone steaks with no salt and basting..eisch!! A special word of thanks to our astute Lion President Hein and his good lady, Antionette from all members of the Uitenhage Lions Club for making the evening such a success, said Past District Governor Bokkie. See you all in the Wilderness. Soon 25th 28th April 2018..
