I've made huge strides in recovery. I can now run and climb. I am incontinent and I wear a diaper when I am exploring my foster house. The vet says I had a "tail pull" injury. There is a tiny possibility I could get some control but it is doubtful. I'm a cuddler, especially if you have food. I do like friendly, calm dogs and other cats and I m very gentle. Hey! My name is Reya! My foster mom named me that because it means 'queen' or 'graceful'. After getting to know me, I'm more of a jester and quite clumsy, but it's ok! My old name was Rage, which doesn't fit me at all. I'm so thrilled about this awesome new life that it's hard to keep all of my happiness in! Mom is teaching me the 'rules of the house' which were all new to me, but I'm doing great! During my previous life, I was chained outside so I didn't have many cool things to play with and investigate. So far I've learned to sit and lay down when asked, wait for stuff like goodies and food, peeing and pooping outside only, stopping when I really want to play with something, and chilling out when I get too anxious to play with my foster sisters. I also listen to mom when the fuzzy little cat creature and my foster sisters aren't interested in me loving them so much. We've become pretty good friends and we love to play together. I had been there for almost a month and a half and was a forgotten soul. Coastal Canine Rescue took me in and I went directly to the vet. I weighed just 56 pounds! I also had open wounds on my front legs, a bladder infection, lots of worms and was emaciated. And I was heartworm positive. Even with all of that going on at once, I still remained a happy, although very hungry, girl. I think I would do best in a home with teenage children or no children. I m not aggressive but I just need to be more aware of my size and how to play gently. I am much improved from when I first arrived. I can sit, take treats gently and love to play with toys. I am good with most other dogs, but not really little dogs or cats. Understandably, I am still a little possessive with other dogs over my food and water. Hello there! My name is Ranger and I have quite a story to tell. It all began one stormy night when I was found on the side of the road in the pouring rain. My rescuer asked Pender Humane Society if they could help me and, of course, they said yes! At the vet s office it was discovered that I had severe skin issues, infected ears and heartworms. I weighed only 45 pounds, which is about 20 pounds underweight. Fast forward to today and my ears are healed, my hair has grown back, I ve gained weight and I m heartworm free! I m learning commands and having so much fun with my toys. I m timid around new people, though, so I hope my future family will give me lots of love and patience and time to thrive and grow. Photo by: Michael Cline Photography Paws by the River Pet Walk Rescheduled Pet Friends of Duplin County has rescheduled their Annual Paws by the River Pet Walk for Sunday, December 2 at the Fitness Center in River Landing, in Wallace. Registration starts at 1:15pm and the walk at 2pm. Entry fee is $25 for an individual and $30 for a family, and includes a t-shirt and snacks. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Paws Place Reopens Paws Place is thrilled and over the moon excited to announce that they have resumed normal business hours. It has been a long eleven weeks since the hurricane. Although the people side of their building needed to be rebuilt, the kennel side of the building fared quite well. Once they got back in, they cleaned, scrubbed and sanitized and were able to get the dogs back into the facility two weeks after the hurricane. While they weren t accepting new dogs, they were able to be open on Saturdays and have had 13 adoptions! Paws Place is so incredibly grateful for all of the people who donated so generously to help them get back on their feet. Donations came in all forms funds, goods, time and energy. Their volunteers continued to come and walk the dogs and very kind people did the laundry all of these weeks. They give thanks to all the trades people who worked hard to help them meet their deadline to be back up and running by Thanksgiving. Big shout out to Tony and Bob who helped tremendously moving the project along. Paws Place has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and are excited to be back. They thank everyone!
