PawPrints Magazine's Homeless Cover Model What will you find in your stocking this year? Toys, some candy...or maybe a new best friend? I m Hamilton and I d love to find myself celebrating the holidays with my forever family! I m an 8 to 9- week-old kitten and it s thought I could be a Maine Coon mix! I will most certainly grow up to be a very handsome cat. I m an extremely sociable boy, not scared of anything, and I love to be held and kissed. Although I ve never met a dog, I get along great with the big cats and small cats in my foster home. I enjoy playing with toys, hopping around the room, wrestling with other kittens, napping in a cute little ball and hanging out with humans! If you d like to adopt me or check out the other kittens that are available, call or text our Adopt-An-ANGEL foster mom, Melinda, at 910-471-6909. And remember, adoption is for life, not just for Christmas! Do your research and make sure you are ready for a long-term commitment, please! I d like to thank Michael Cline Photography for convincing Santa Claus to temporarily leave the North Pole and arrive in Wilmington for our photo shoot. Santa said he d do his best to find me a wonderful home. Won t you adopt me so that he can cross my wish off his to-do list? Photo by: Michael Cline Photography

Not for profit service organization since 1971 ARE YOU WALKING YOUR DOG......OR IS YOUR DOG WALKING YOU? Classes begin January 7th $10.00 off with this ad (first time students only) 910-392-2040 Visit our website at www.adtc.us Have you noticed the hearts appearing in the corner of some photos? The hearts designate that they are a special needs or senior animal in need of an extra-special someone. Please don t overlook them. How long must I wait for a forever family?! I just cannot understand why a beautiful girl like me has not found a forever home! My name is Sky and I would make a great addition to your family! I am 5-years-old, I have all of my vaccinations, I ve been spayed and I m even microchipped. I am very active, love to play and go for long walks. Oh yes, I love the water so a place with a pool would be totally acceptable for me! If you believe that I am your girl, please call Carolina Animal Protection Society (CAPS) at 910-455-9682 and leave a message for Mickie. You may also visit our website at capsrescue.com for an application or more information. I am sponsored by Atlas and Bonnie Mayew. Thank you! Baby is my name and I'm a 7-year-old, neutered Tuxedo cat. They tell me I m more like a dog because I know commands and I can sit and roll over for tuna. I'm a little shy and will need a patient person to get to know me. I have lived with several cats and a small dog. As a kitten, I was found sitting in the middle of the road. My mom, who rescued me, needs to find me a new home because ours was damaged by the hurricane and we can't live there anymore. If you would like more info, contact Pet Friends of Duplin County by emailing abby.albright1@gmail.com or calling 910-271-3101. We are sponsored by the Miss Avis Davis Fund in loving memory of Maryrose Miller. Miss Avis Davis, 1990-2005 Rescue Animals Community Effort Hi, I'm Ivy. I'm a senior Poodle girl who only weighs around 9 pounds. I am a super sweet gal and I really want a person who will lounge with me throughout the day. I like other dogs and I think cats are ok, too. When I first arrived, I was underweight and not very healthy. My foster home has done a great job helping me gain weight and confidence in a healthy way. Think you can keep me healthy in my golden years? Please fill out an application online at www.raceshelter.org/forms-and-resources. For more info, call R.A.C.E. at 910-579-0407. Hi, I'm Sampson or as my foster calls me, Slammin Sammy. I am a neutered, 2-year-old, 15 pound Shih Tzu mix. I like other dogs and love to play, but I really don't like women or kids. My foster is a nice lady, but I like men better, so would prefer to be with a man. I tolerate my foster mom because she ignored me for a long time, letting me come to her. She has been very patient with me, but I really want a man as my forever pet parent. If you are a cool dude who wants to have a bromance and go for walks, please fill out an application online at www.raceshelter.org/forms-andresources. For more information, you may also call R.A.C.E. at 910-579-0407. My name is Marigold and I am a pretty little Tortoiseshell kitty. I am FULL of personality. You will love me! Please come meet me at Petsense in Wilmington in the Long Leaf Shopping Center. I would love it if I was your only pet. My personality is too big for you to share. For more info about me or the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or you can visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net. My name is Kiki and I am 6-months-old. I am a black and white tuxedo who is very friendly and loving. I was born earlier this year and have been attending adoption fairs every weekend. How can I be overlooked for this long? At first, there were so many kittens to compete with that it was really daunting and overwhelming. I even dressed up for this picture hoping I could get someone to fall in love with me. I love to be cozy and wrapped up in cuddly stuff so I would LOVE to sleep in bed with you every night. Come meet me on weekends at our adoption fairs or call Jill with Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-620- 3783 and she will put you in touch with my foster family. Adopt-An-ANGEL Long Creek Animal Rescue My name might be Alaska but that doesn't mean I'm cold! I'm a fully vetted gray and white girl who is 1-year-old. I was rescued, along with my 5 siblings, from an empty house when I wasn't even weaned yet. Can you believe the owner wanted to put out poison to kill us all? That rocky start left me a little nervous around new people but I promise, once I get to know you, I'm just about the most loving, goofy, laidback snuggle bug you'll ever meet. I even like dogs! It's not their fault they can't be as pretty as me, right? Please call 910-617-6290 or 704-682-2529 if you're ready to see just how warm Alaska can be! My name's Nevada, but you can call me Nevvy! I'm a little over 1-year-old, and ready to spend the rest of my life with a forever family. I can be a little shy sometimes, but don't let that fool you! I'm anything but demure. As soon as you give me some love you'll get to see the real me: feisty, funny, chatty and sweet as can be. I promise you won't be disappointed! My rescue moms say I've got a TON of personality. My ideal day would be spent playing with you until I'm all tuckered out and then settling down for an evening of snuggles. I just love to be loved. If that's your idea of the perfect day, please call 910-617-6290 or 704-682-2529.

Adoption Options We are all from different Animal Rescues. Please read our stories! COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY I m Katie, a 5-year-old, 44 pound Carolina Dog/ Staffordshire Terrier mix. I am spayed, house-trained, and vaccinated. I am a beautiful girl and so loveable. I enjoy running and playing and I need a home with a fenced in yard. I have been through training at Petsmart and graduated. I need to be the only dog in the home as I might not always get along with other pets. A good home with an understanding human is what I desire. Thunderstorms cause me some anxiety and I wear a Thundershirt when I m stressed. I am a wonderful dog and I just need a loving, caring family or individual who will shower me with love and attention. I will be your best friend if given the chance. To adopt me, call 910-499-1148 or visit www.columbushumanesociety.org. DUPLIN HUMANE SOCIETY My name is Ezma and I'm a 2-year-old, spayed girl. I can be shy at first, but I love to play and cuddle and I'm very vocal. I've lived with other cats and also a small dog. My Mom rescued me as a little kitten but now she needs to find a new home for me. Our home was damaged in Hurricane Florence and we're no longer able to live there. My mom is heartbroken to have to give me up, but has no other choice. If you can help, please send an email to abby.albright1@gmail.com or call 910-271-3101. PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM Ho, ho, ho, my name is Kringle! I m your typical Black Labrador Retriever who gets along with everyone, even cats! At 6-years-old, I m enrolled in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program and am learning all kinds of cool stuff to make me the perfect family member. While going through heartworm treatment, it was found I had seizures. Don t worry, though, because my meds help me and keep things under control. I am neutered, vaccinated, crate-trained and I know all of my basic commands. Please fill out an application at www.montyshome.org or get more info from Laurie at 703-864-5754 or email adopt@montyshome.org. RESCUECONNECT Hi, I'm Herbie! I'm a compact little guy with a lot of love to give! I would be best as an only dog so I can get all the attention and snuggles but I am willing to share my humans with a sweet kitty. I love long walks and spending any time with kids who give me attention! I would love to find an active family to call my own. If you are interested in providing me a forever home, please contact RescueConnect by emailing rescueconnectnc@gmail.com or calling 910-302-7290. COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (C.A.R.E.) Hi! My name is Rogan! At 6-years-old, I m a very sweet boy who loves to lay outside in the sun, and I will never turn down a dog cookie! (910) 799-3400 Cats ~ Dogs Who s that silky smooth, bright-eyed beauty? Why, it s me, Otis. I m here at SOAR because the family had to move and couldn t take me with them. I had been with them ever since they adopted me as a kitten, living an indoor-only life. They had me neutered and have kept me up to date on vaccinations. And I m litterbox-trained, too, of course! I will be doing my best to handle this big change, but I promise you that I m a very friendly boy and I ll be happy to have a new life in your home. Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and tell them you d like to visit and gaze upon my beauty in person! I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge. Meet me, I m Cooper!! I was found as a skinny, scared stray several months ago. I ve come out of my shell due to months of training with my foster mom and the Wilmington Dog Wizard but I m still shy and timid sometimes. I have so much love to give but I need a special home with a calm environment. I would be best as the only pet as I am afraid of other pets and children. Since I have special needs, the Wilmington Dog Wizard will do free follow-up training for the rest of my life! Please consider adopting me! I m a sweet, loveable girl and I deserve a home of my own. Please call 910-392-0557 to adopt us! Adopt-An-ANGEL My name is Della and I am a wonderful, midsized, 5-year-old Pit Bull mix who weighs about 35 to 40 pounds. I am housetrained, sweet, loveable, demure, quiet and absolutely precious. I came out of a rural, overcrowded animal shelter and have some medical needs that are being taken care of. I had some mammary tumors removed and I m undergoing heartworm treatment at the group's expense. I seem to do well with calm dogs, but would love a home where I am the only pampered pet. If you would like to meet me, call Jill at 910-620-3783. My name is Angel and I am a young adult. I am a pretty and dainty white Calico. I came in with a litter of kittens who were all quickly adopted. I am patiently waiting for my family to come in the door. You can find me at Petsense in Wilmington in the Long Leaf Shopping Center. I am super friendly and won t need any adjustment time at all. Let s do this! My name is Gigi and I was a wonderful mother to 4 cute adorable kittens who have all been adopted. I am quiet, undemanding and do well with other animals. Move me in and there will be no problems at all. Your other pets shouldn t even notice me. I am no trouble at all. I just want a home and someone to love me. Please come meet me at PetSense in Shallotte or call Jill at 910-620-3783 for more information. My name is Spunky and I am a chubby (60 pound) 10-year-old Black Lab mix. I was found running loose during Hurricane Florence and rescued by the shelter. Unfortunately, my family never came for me and I was deemed too old for adoption. They thought I might have hip problems. Adopt-An- ANGEL took me and had me checked out. I am spry and full of life so they named me Spunky. The vet recommended antiinflammatory meds but said I had a clean bill of health. Would you be interested in a perfect gentleman? One who loves everyone he meets? Does well with other dogs and cats? Has never met a stranger? I just went to a rock concert and was the life of the party. Please call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783 to take me home. My name is Polly and I am a darling, young, orange and white female Tuxedo which is highly rare. I am friendly and great with other animals, too. I lost my home during Hurricane Florence and ended up in the animal shelter. There were so many of us that the shelter couldn't handle us all so I ended up in rescue with Adopt-An-ANGEL. You can find me at Petsense in Shallotte or you can call Jill at 910-620-3783 to meet me. My name is Scarlett and I am a female 7-year-old Pit Bull and Boxer mix who is fairly small in stature. I will just melt your heart! I was adopted from Adopt-An- ANGEL about 4-years-ago but my mom was displaced due to Hurricane Florence and could no longer keep me. I am great with cats and every person I meet! Look at my adorable underbite. You just have to adopt me. Please call Sherry at 910-523-1254 to meet me. P.O. REALTOR for RESCUES Where Every Sale Helps Rescues! Selling properties in the area for 14-Years. Call me to find out how selling or buying a home can help rescues. Glenda Eason - Century 21 Sweyer (910) 612-4776 Mora, you may no longer be with us but you will never be forgotten! The house is so very empty without you since you left us on August 25, 2018...after fifteen wonderful years together! No other dog compares to you. From giving you a subtle hand signal that alerted you we were going on a car ride...to helping your pack get outside by opening the door yourself! You were so incredibly smart and each day you never ceased to amaze us! Every day there is something that reminds us of you, but we think of you especially when we take boat rides and remember your love of swimming...which makes our hearts smile. Mora, we will miss your goofy walk, your beautiful brown eyes, taking you for rides in the car and for swims in the water. But, we thank you for showing us how much love a rescue dog brings to our hearts and for rescuing us! Run free my sweet Blackberry, our hearts may never be the same again but they will always wear the paw prints left by you! Love, Your humans Mark and Leslie Armstrong and your pack Cletus, Clyde, Lacey, Penny, JJ, Utah, Flo and Cooper URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out! I m a blueeyed Husky girl named Skye (A031855)! When I came to the shelter, the vet checked me out and she thinks I m about 8-yearsold. I m a really sweet girl who is VERY housetrained and kennel-trained. I ve most likely been bred a lot during my lifetime and am searching now for a home where I can be loved for me, and given lots of TLC. I m spayed now, as well, so there will be no more babies and, hopefully, this tired look on my face will be replaced with a happy, contented one in my new home! But hurry, dogs arrive at the shelter every day and there s not enough room for us all. The shelter is open 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, Noon to 4pm on Saturday and 1pm to 4pm on Sundays. For driving directions or more info, call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email jhorton@pendercountync.gov. I am sponsored in loving memory of Hank Harrington. Hi, I am Kiamilla. That's what folks named me because I was abandoned when the hurricane came and the only thing I had was the sofa that was left by the side of the road. Folks saw me sitting there for days waiting for my family to come back for me, but no one came. My foster mom, Jean, and OCPAW came to help me; along with Animal House of Jacksonville who offered to help by giving me a place to stay. I was so happy to be cared for, warm and safe there. Now, I think my new name should be Christmas. A name of hope, joy, love, excitement, peace and the warmth of a new loving family. I know everyone is so busy this time of year, but if you see me, please help me and give me a second chance. I am a very sweet girl who has been fully vetted and I m just waiting for a place under your tree and in your heart (forever). Please, call Jean at 910-381-8852 or Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare at 910-745-7930 or email ocpaw@yahoo.com. Applications are on our website at www.oc-paw.com. The Christmas lights surround me, but there is sadness in my eyes. Will you help and make me a gift of life under your tree? I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Call or text 910-707-4372 or email info@all4cats.org to adopt! All 4 Cats My name is Kimchee and I enjoy a good sunbeam and dinner. I'm a quiet, 2½-yearold gal who is spayed and vaccinated. I still love to play like a kitten but do enjoy a few long naps every day. Pema and I came from the same house but she s already been adopted. My previous owner's job changed and required international travel for lengthy periods of time. Being alone for days is not my thing. Adoptable cats/kittens housed at Pet Supplies Plus in Beau Rivage Shopping center (Adoptions by appt.) For the latest kitten additions, check out www.facebook.com/all4catsrescue To meet any of our cats or kittens in their foster home, email info@all4cats.org or text 910-707-4372. All 4 Cats holds adoption events at the PetSmart in Monkey Junction on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. Technically my name is Frangelica but I also go by Fran or Franny, too. I'm a regal, Domestic Medium-Haired Tuxedo gal. I'm a little over 1-year-old and I raised 4 lovely kittens. I'm spayed and up to date on all shots. I get along with cats and I'm ok with small, quiet dogs. I'm very friendly and I like to be near my people. I like to perch on the couch and survey my space. If you come out to adoption fairs to meet me, I kindly ask that you give me ear scratches. Hi everyone, my name is Bert. I'm 13-years-old and a very handsome Russian Blue. My owner passed away so I'm looking for a quiet home. I still have lots of love to give. I love treats - maybe a little too much. I'm coming out of my shell and I connect with males easier than females. I'm slightly opinionated and I need time to adjust. Do you need a movie buddy? Make sure you ask about the All 4 Cats Seniors for Seniors program. Hi, I'm Sparkler, aka Fancy Pants, and I'm 7-months-old. I was rescued off the side of the road in Brunswick County where I was dragging my hind legs. A wonderful family got me medical treatment but couldn't provide long term care. I've made huge strides in recovery. I can now run and climb. I am incontinent and I wear a diaper when I am exploring my foster house. The vet says I had a "tail pull" injury. There is a tiny possibility I could get some control but it is doubtful. I'm a cuddler, especially if you have food. I do like friendly, calm dogs and other cats and I m very gentle. They call me Sparkler because I came to the rescue on July 6 and I am a bundle of energy. I am available to foster to adopt if you would like to get to know me and my special needs. Hi, I'm Charlie and I m the last of my litter. I'm 8-months-old. I'm a handsome, orange boy who is neutered and up to date on shots. I'm a cuddle bug who likes other cats. I've seen a few dogs at adoption events, but I haven't formed an opinion yet. The jury is still out on those creatures. I love to run and play and find laser toys to be so much fun. Kittens, Kittens, Kittens! We have many more kittens who are not featured here. Please check out our website or visit us on Facebook. Hey! My name is Reya! My foster mom named me that because it means 'queen' or 'graceful'. After getting to know me, I'm more of a jester and quite clumsy, but it's ok! My old name was Rage, which doesn't fit me at all. I'm so thrilled about this awesome new life that it's hard to keep all of my happiness in! Mom is teaching me the 'rules of the house' which were all new to me, but I'm doing great! During my previous life, I was chained outside so I didn't have many cool things to play with and investigate. So far I've learned to sit and lay down when asked, wait for stuff like goodies and food, peeing and pooping outside only, stopping when I really want to play with something, and chilling out when I get too anxious to play with my foster sisters. I also listen to mom when the fuzzy little cat creature and my foster sisters aren't interested in me loving them so much. We've become pretty good friends and we love to play together. I've only been living in this thing called a house and my foster mom already lets me walk around on my own. She knows I run to her whenever she calls me!! She says I listen better than her kids! I also love to cuddle, lay in laps, and give TONS of kisses. I love car rides and going new places. We've gone to a few events with lots of people, dogs, beer, and food. I had so much fun and just hung out and enjoyed how awesome life can be! Everyone says that I'm one of the happiest doggers ever! And they're right! My name is Cloud and I m a 10-week-old Maine Coon mix girl, already spayed, vaccinated and litterboxtrained. I m such a sweetheart and very sociable. I love to play with other kittens and enjoy being held by humans. Toys are lots of fun and so is taking naps in warm, sunny spots in the house. Santa said he d do his very best to find me a home, but that he needed my future family to help move things along by contacting my Adopt-An-ANGEL foster mom! So if you d like to meet me, call or text Melinda at 910-471-6909. And remember, I m a lifetime commitment, so please do your homework before bringing me home and make sure you re prepared. You see, when someone enters the room, they instantly suck in their breath and say, Wow, what a gorgeous cat! It happens every time. It may be my long, black fur with a smokeygrey undercoat that captures their attention. It could be my plush feather-duster tail, or the silky wisps of hair that curl out of my ears. Whatever it is, their next impulse is to rub me. And I love that! My motor starts purring as soon as anyone comes near. I m just 2-years-old, neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. My name is Veronica, and I am a very sweet, but shy, young lady. I was rescued from a dogfighting ring, so hopefully you can understand why I am a little fearful of humans. My friends at C.A.R.E. and Atlantic Animal Hospital are helping me get over my fear by being very patient with me and rewarding me with lots of treats! I'm hoping to find a family that is willing to continue working with me to help me get over my fear. I recently completed my heartworm treatment and am so happy to be able to run and play with new doggy friends! At 2-years-old, I arrived with a broken leg, but after surgery and months of recovery I m ready to go home! I m happy playing with other cats or on my own. My name is Chloe (A031849) and I m a 1-yearold, spayed Hound mix girl who was found as a stray. Please call 910-253-1375 to adopt us! Cat Tails My name is Moon and I m 3-years-old. I really wasn t very friendly when I came here and I developed a bit of a bad reputation. Well, now I ve learned how to behave and I m ready to go! I have the roundest face ever, kind of a moon face (ha, ha!), beautiful blue eyes, lots of extra toes and unusual Calico coloring. Hi, I m Jasmine, I m 11-years-old and I really need a forever home. I don t like it here and the other cats pick on me all the time. I have a great big cage to get away from the other cats, but it s not perfect. It s missing a big bed, a comfortable couch, a window with trees and birds outside and, most of all, a person who loves me! I m Max and I m a 4-year-old gray cat. I have allergies so sometimes my skin is scabby and my hair is often thin. I often lose too much weight and look too skinny. I also have a cauliflower ear. But all of this just makes me special! Besides, if you can overlook all of that, I m the friendliest, sweetest cat you ll ever meet. Lindy is my name and I m an 8-month-old black kitten. We black kittens have a hard time getting adopted but we re really gorgeous if you look closely. Our eyes give us a little pop of color and our coats are smooth and glossy. Some of us even have a whole bunch of white whiskers! Best of all, our hair won t even show on your favorite black slacks. So, come to Cat Tails and meet me and my friends. I m an 18- month-old Tabby boy and I have a confession to make sometimes I bite. I just get so excited that I forget what I m doing and nip someone. But, I m really not mean! On the positive side, I m very tall and very handsome. Some people think I look like I might be part Bengal cat. My name is Tucker and I hope you ll come meet me. I'm Bessie and no, I m not a cow. I m an 8-month-old Tortie kitten. I m very sweet and I love to play with the other kittens. I m crazy about feather sticks, laser pointers and those little balls that rattle. The rattle is much better than the bell! I think I would be perfect for your family, don t you?! 6622 Beach Drive SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469 www.cattails.org December 2018 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 19

This sweet, smiling face belongs to me, Oliver! I m readymade to be a perfect companion to some lucky person or family. At just 2½-yearsold, I know basic commands and walk well on a leash. My new home should have a secure privacy fence so I can chase balls and explore and have a good time. My brother Igor is also pictured on this page, but we do not have to be adopted together. Hi, my name is Boo Boo and I'm the long-haired, beautiful Torti on the left. I'm a 10-year-old, spayed girl who is a quiet cuddler. Amy is one of my housemates and, as you can see, she's also very pretty! She's 5-years-old, spayed and a little shy. Once she gets to know you, she is quite the talker and will have a whole conversation with you. We have found ourselves in a heartbreaking situation - we can not live in our home anymore because it was damaged by Hurricane Florence. Our Mom is so sad but has no other choice. She has been a volunteer at a local shelter and has helped so many animals who needed to be rescued or fostered. Now she needs help. For more information, please contact Pet Friends of Duplin County by emailing abby.albright1@gmail.com or calling 910-271-3101. We are sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy. Cowboy is my name and making you laugh is my game! I am still a puppy at 8- months-old and I am a Treeing Walker Hound. I have no desire to go hunting, I would rather play with my toys and chew on my bones. I am already neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. I am also heartworm negative. I love to go for walks but prefer to have a big yard to run around in because I LOVE to run! I don't want to stay in a crate all day, but I am a good boy if I have to. Just don't leave anything within reach, because I will get it and pull it through and play with it! I will play with anything: a pine cone, a rock, a piece of paper, a stick! Mom says I am her "clown" and the more she laughs, the more I act silly. I play well with all the other dogs here, no matter how big or small they are. I like to bark at the cats, but they never get close enough to me to say hi. I was found in rural Pender County, on the side of the road, with my sister and two brothers. I was eating garbage - I was so hungry, I would have eaten anything. We all had something called "cherry eye" in our eyes, but mom had it all fixed up and I am looking good now! I love when it's time to eat and will do anything you want me to for a treat or some food. If you want to meet me, please send an email to my foster mom at roseysweezers7@aol.com or call 910-547-0998 and leave a message. You can see more pictures of me on our Facebook page - just search Roseys Rescue. I am sponsored by Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar in Carolina Beach and in loving memory of Bess.

Onslow County Animal Services Call 910-937-1164 or 910-455-0182 or email animalcontrol@onslowcountync.gov to adopt! Hey, they call me Patrick (39854187) and I m a 1-year-old boy who is looking to go to a home with an active family, big fenced yard to run, and other playful dogs. I am house-trained and good with children, but I need some puppy manners lessons. I am learning not to pull and jump - I get so excited when it's time to play - but a human who will be patient in training will have an amazing companion in me. Due to my breed, you will need to provide a copy of your lease or written permission from your landlord or rental agency before meeting me. I need to know that I will be welcome in my new home. I m Crackerjack (39711917), a 3-year-old, wiggly Hound boy who is full of personality. I m looking for a home with a big fenced yard and other dogs. Us Hounds love to be part of a pack. I have been homeless for nearly 2-months and it s about time someone scooped me up. I love to be loved! Give me a good scratch and snuggle and you'll have a friend for life. I tested positive for heartworms. However, the cost of my treatment will be paid by Friends of Animal Services. I have been here at the shelter for more than 2-months. My name is Martina McPaws (39459817) and I came to OCAS with my litter of kittens. I am 4-years-old and was a good mama. My kittens were healthy and strong and quickly found their forever homes. I, on the other hand, have had a harder time getting noticed. I m a sweet girl with beautiful markings who would love a home to call my own. I am currently in a foster home and prefer to be the only pet where I can enjoy all of your attention. I love to snuggle in bed and give sandpaper kisses. If you are looking for an affectionate cat, I m the cat for you! My name is Lollipop (39941771) and I m a 6-monthold girl who is as sweet as can be. Though still quite a kitten myself, it can be hard to compete with the younger kittens at the shelter. I love to snuggle in my blanket (I get tucked in each night) and am looking for a human to cuddle. If a fun, playful young kitten is what you are looking for, look no further than me! 244 Georgetown Rd., Jacksonville, NC www.onslowcountync.gov/animalservices December 2018 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 29

www.wcleeuwenburg.com I m a darling boy named Caesar and I d love to be your new family member! My shelter friends are quite charmed by me - they say I m such a gentleman, very quiet and very sweet. I sit on command for treats and make friends with every human I meet. I was found wandering along the side of the road and was rescued by a very nice lady who says I got along well with her two dogs. She got me to the shelter and I m so glad she did because I needed a little help. You see, while I was on my own, I tore my ACL. The good news is that I m in my last month of recovery and will soon be as good as new! If you ve fallen in love with my sweet face and would like to meet me, please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for driving directions or more info! I am sponsored by the Furry Friends Re-sale Shop in honor and memory of all the animals who've passed through the doors of Pender Humane Society. Did you ever wonder how we get our names? Well, our kennel manager let the staff select our names from a list she had. I was given the name Mirabelle. I am one of three sisters in a litter of six Chihuahua mixes. My mama was dumped on the side of the road when she was pregnant with us. We are so thankful that the lady who found us took good care of her and us. Now we are here at Paws Place. They say I m the runt of the litter. I m not sure I like the sound of it. I think I like the word petite better. PAW S Place Send inquiries for adoption to info@pawsplace.org or call 910-845-7297. Hi, I m Mahi. I guess you could say I m a fish out of water! I m a very calm, large Hound. Walking on leash is not a favorite thing for me, but I do need some encouragement so that I can lose a few pounds. However, a nice fenced-in yard would be wonderful, too! We believe I would do best in a home without small children. At just under five years of age, I ve got a lot of loving and a lot of living to do. Want to do it with me? It s me, Tyson - they tell me that I m a gentle giant! I am house-trained, know commands, walk great on a leash, and am just a big, 6½-year-old Boxer mix love-bug with a heart of gold. I d do best in a home without young children or in a home with children who are bigger than me. I promise to be your devoted and loving companion! I m Natalie, a 13 pound Chihuahua mix. Can you believe that my previous owner dumped me off at the end of a road knowing that I was pregnant?! I am so thankful and grateful that the person who found me took care of me through the birth and until we could wean my babies. Then she brought me to Paws Place. I know my puppies will find good homes and I m hoping I will too. Hop in the car and meet us! I m Kimmie, a 2-year-old Lab mix who weighs in at 65 pounds. I had a rough start after being abandoned by my family, but that is all behind me now. I m healthy and full of energy just like a Lab and I get along with other dogs. Vaccinations, spaying and a microchip have already been completed. I m looking forward to having a family that loves me for me and will never abandon me again! I m a playful young girl who seems to have lost her way. I ve been given the name Daisy. We looked and looked for my family after I was found wandering the streets. We didn t find them. So now I m here learning all sorts of new things. Mostly how to make new friends and some basic commands. Of course, I get to play, too. We think that I will be under 50 pounds by the time I m all grown up. A perfect size, don t you think? Hope you will come meet me! My name is Harley and I m an Italian Greyhound mix. I m one of the new kids at Paws Place! At just under 2 years of age and 20 pounds, I m already house-trained and I love people, kids, cats and dogs. I also like to be held or sit in your lap. I do enjoy exercise so a family that is active or has a fencedin yard would be great. I m looking for that special family that I can adopt. Is that you? Come on over and let s find out! 242 George II Hwy, Winnabow, NC 28479 www.pawsplace.org December 2018 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 31

I m a Hurricane Florence rescue. I'm 28 pounds and approximately 1½-years-old. I am housetrained, I know basic commands and manners, I walk nicely on a leash and I do well in a crate or penned area. I can also use a doggie door pretty darn well! I just love playing with stuffed toys, balls, and chewing on my tasty Nylabone - oh, and I LOVE to snuggle! In my foster home, I am with four much larger dogs (50 to 80 pounds) and I get along very well with all of them. I am not sure about kids or cats, as I have not been observed with them. I am spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccines. If you would like to adopt me, call Russell Rescue of the Carolinas at 910-821-3504 to leave a message or email mcbburton@alumni.unc.edu. Email: theunforgottensouls@gmail.com Facebook: theunforgottensouls My name is Scarlett and I m a Great Dane mix who was stuck in a rural shelter with no hope for help in sight. I had been there for almost a month and a half and was a forgotten soul. Coastal Canine Rescue took me in and I went directly to the vet. I weighed just 56 pounds! I also had open wounds on my front legs, a bladder infection, lots of worms and was emaciated. And I was heartworm positive. Even with all of that going on at once, I still remained a happy, although very hungry, girl. I think I would do best in a home with teenage children or no children. I m not aggressive but I just need to be more aware of my size and how to play gently. I am much improved from when I first arrived. I can sit, take treats gently and love to play with toys. I am good with most other dogs, but not really little dogs or cats. Understandably, I am still a little possessive with other dogs over my food and water. I now weigh 105 pounds, have been spayed, treated for heartworms and I m ready for a new home. To meet me, please email Coastal Canine Rescue at CoastalCanineRescue@ec.rr.com or call 910-470-5554.

Pender County Animal Shelter Please call 910-259-1484 or email jhorton@pendercountync.gov to help! Everyone says WOW when they meet me because I m such a pretty Tortoiseshell kitty. The swirl and design of color on my coat make me look like a living work of art! My name is Calypso (A031879) and I m a 2-year-old spayed girl. I m very sweet and loving, too! Beauty Boy (A031832) is my name because, well, just look at me! With soft, smooth, ebony-colored fur and bright, golden eyes, I m definitely a handsome fellow, but the best thing about me is my friendly and sweet personality. I m just 1-yearold, already neutered and ready to begin stealing hearts. I m Cedar (A031694), a mid-twenties Appaloosa/Paint cross mare. I came to the shelter UNABLE to stand due to severe emaciation. I spent five days at Reagan Equine being lifted by a tractor until they finally had me standing for long times unassisted. I have required help getting up twice here at the shelter when I first returned, but with quality feed/hay and TLC, I am doing MUCH better. I m a sweet, sassy girl who LOVES to eat and I even trot around the fields! I am current on vaccines, coggins, and had my teeth floated. I m eating Nutrena Equine Senior 3 times a day and alfalfa hay and I LOVE it! I also LOVE Velvet, pictured below, and my friends here would gladly give a deal for us to go together. OPEN ON SATURDAYS! Noon to 4pm OPEN ON SUNDAYS! 1pm to 4pm Please Adopt! WE RE OVERCROWDED AND NEAR CAPACITY. I can t figure out how a pretty, sweet girl like me came to be wandering outside in this world all alone. But I m told I ll soon be part of a family! My name is Princess (A031908) and I m a 1-year-old Pit Bull mix girl. Adopt me today so that we can begin our fun and adventurous new life! Are you looking for a superfriendly, social and loving girl? Pick me! My name is Tabitha (A031881) and I just love to get attention. I m smart, too, and I don t miss a thing. I ll keep your house free of any mice or bugs and I d definitely have fun with a laser-pointer! I m ready to go! I m Velvet (A031734), a 13-year-old Thoroughbred mare. I arrived at the shelter extremely underweight. My teeth were in TERRIBLE condition. My friends here have had them floated which has helped but I will need them done about every six months to try and get them back to a normal wear pattern. I am current on my coggins and vaccines as well. I am a sweet mare, a little head shy and pushy at feed time. Given where I came from, I am most likely rideable for an intermediate rider, but there are no solid reports that I am broke. My shelter friends are just going off what they heard at the time of my arrival. Cedar, pictured above, is a friend of mine. Ask about us going together. You will be given a great deal! 3280 New Savannah Rd., Burgaw, NC Pendercountyanimalshelter.petfinder.com December 2018 www.facebook.com/pawprintsmagazine 33

Hello there! My name is Ranger and I have quite a story to tell. It all began one stormy night when I was found on the side of the road in the pouring rain. My rescuer asked Pender Humane Society if they could help me and, of course, they said yes! At the vet s office it was discovered that I had severe skin issues, infected ears and heartworms. I weighed only 45 pounds, which is about 20 pounds underweight. Fast forward to today and my ears are healed, my hair has grown back, I ve gained weight and I m heartworm free! I m learning commands and having so much fun with my toys. I m timid around new people, though, so I hope my future family will give me lots of love and patience and time to thrive and grow. I will be so grateful in return! Please call the shelter at 910-259-7022 and tell them you d like to meet me! Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day! Hi Everybody! My name is Severian. You say it like (sah-var-eee-un), but my closest friends call me Sevvie. I am an 80 pound, 3-year-old, American Pit Bull Terrier mix, but some say I have some Dogo Argentina. I have been neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tested heartworm negative, so I am healthy as a horse! I love getting lots of attention, and people making a big deal out of how good looking I am. I m smart, too. I would love to show you the tricks that I ve learned. My foster mom said no more apartments for me, a big boy like me needs my own yard so I can show off how fast I can run - and showing off is what I do best! My favorite time of the day is when it's time to eat! I want to be your one and only boy. I don't mind having a sister, but she has to be able to keep up with me. I never go potty in the house and I love to sleep on your bed, even when you're not home. I don't like going in that crate too much; I'm too big for that. If it's just for a little while, it's ok, but not all day. Mama Rosey says I am the best boy ever; I don't tear her stuff up. I do like a toy that's a challenge. I don't like being scolded, it makes me feel bad and I just want to make people laugh and be happy. My foster mom says I am her favorite (but she says that to the other dogs, too). If you think you might want me to come and live with you, you have to go through her first and she asks you lots of questions. You can email her at roseysweezers7@aol.com or call 910-547-0998 and leave a message. You can see more of my pictures on Facebook by searching Roseys Rescue.

Russell Rescue Inc. - Carolinas Call 910-821-3504 to leave a message or email mcbburton@alumni.unc.edu to adopt! Often times, prospective adopters aren t interested in saving us older pets. That s unfortunate because you ll eliminate the pleasure of knowing me! My name is Buddy and I am approximately 13-years-old. I ve spent my whole life as a devoted canine companion and recently came to rescue when my human went into hospice. I miss him so much but I m still ready to bond with you. I m the type of little senior friend who shouldn t be avoided but, instead, chosen for my attributes. I m beyond all of that puppy silliness, but not beyond seeking the gentle touch of a human and doing my best to please you. I am an old man so I need frequent bathroom times. I love food, especially breakfast and dinner. I am a social eater! My back legs are not the strongest but I m currently on joint supplements. I enjoy having someone around me as I get lonely. I am neutered and vaccinated. Could you give me the chance to live out the twilight of my life in the comfort of your home, surrounded by love? Michael Cline Photography Hi, my name is Chase and I am a 6 to 7-year-old male Jack Russell who was claimed during the hurricane after my family did not want me any longer. I am a super loving dog, happy when my humans come home, and I just love to play all day! I love every dog and child I meet, and skip through the tide pools at the beach. I could walk for hours so would be best to be in a very active home, and love taking car rides. No cats, please! I like to chase and eat them! I am very food motivated so am a fast learner. I am so mellow, you can trim my nails, clean my ears, and give me a bath and I won't mind. I just had a dental and had 6 teeth removed. I am a lap dog when it is time to chill, and also house-trained. I am up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and neutered. My name is Peewee and I was born deaf. I show my excitement by doing zoomies and turning in circles. While I am shy, some days I get brazen enough to steal kisses. Treat time is my favorite! I would not do well in a home with children or large dogs. I need a fun, goofy canine friend my size, and a pretty laid-back home. My foster mom says I make her laugh and she loves me to pieces. She is sure you will, too! Hello, my name is Dusty Roads and I am a hurricane survivor pup from Onslow County. I can be a little skittish at first but my foster mommy says I am a super sweet boy and quickly coming out of my shell. I listen well and am house-trained! I have been struggling to overcome homelessness for over a year and it is unbelievable that I have not been scooped up yet. Why? Because at every adoption fair, there has been a cuter kitty who won someone over instead of me. I don't let it get me down though. I know my special someone is out there somewhere. I thought about hiring a special detective, but I can't afford it. Will you help me find them? I bet they don't even know they want a cat yet. We have to convince them how important cats are. I m a 1½-yearold, tan and white female, but don't let my silliness fool you - I'm smart as a whip! I was rescued on Memorial Day and am fully vetted and ready for a new, forever home. I'm spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Even though I had to live outside for most of my life, I learned all about living in a house very quickly. I'm house-trained, I know basic commands, and I've even learned a trick or two. I have lots of energy, love to play and fetch my squeaky ball, but I love to cuddle even more! I'm good with kids and would love to have one of my own. I'd do best with an active family who'll give me lots of love and attention in a home without cats or small dogs. If you're looking for an extremely smart, loving, and beautiful addition to your family, call Long Creek Animal Rescue at 910-617-6290. I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you! Hi, my name is Zoe and I am a 16-monthold spayed and pexied Dane girl. My previous owners gave me to the nice people at Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love because they did not have time to care for me. My foster family says that I am full of energy and very much still a puppy! I am a strong and smart dog who will require a strong pack leader. I play well with other dogs, but sometimes I don t realize how big and strong I am. My foster parents think I would be best suited in a home with other large breed dogs and no cats. I would make an excellent companion for someone looking for a running mate or who likes to go for hikes. I love to go for rides in the car, take a dip in the pool, trips to the dog park, and doggy daycare. I am house-trained, cratetrained and know basic commands. I am a social butterfly and will play for hours with squeaky toys! For an adoption application, please contact Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love via email at greatdanefriend@yahoo.com or call 704-584-9257. Breed Rescues We are all from different Breed Rescues. Please read our stories! GREAT DANE FRIENDS OF RUFF LOVE I m Seamus, a super playful, 5-month-old Great Dane puppy. I love to run around the backyard and wrestle with the other dogs in my foster home. I love kids, and I especially love licking them when they are playing on the floor! I am also good with cats who are dog savvy. I even love to lick the cat in my foster home and bounce around and play with her! I am crate-trained during the day but would do best in a home where I spend more time out of the crate than in it. I am neutered and ready for my forever family! For an adoption application, email greatdanefriend@yahoo.com or call 704-584-9257. Check out some of our other Great Danes available for adoption at www.greatdanefriends.com. SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS I m a super-sweet Schnauzer boy named Buddy! I was abandoned to fend for myself out in the cold. A private rescuer found me and got me to the Schnauzer rescue where I ve been vetted and prepared for adoption. I love car rides, laps, walks, and people - all I need is "room at the inn" for me. I m about 6-years-old and have much love to give! I m good with other dogs, too! To adopt me, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You can also email adoptions@schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org or call 919-723-7145 for an application. Mention this PawPrints ad and receive a $20 discount on my adoption! MERIT PIT BULL FOUNDATION My name is Jessup and I like to smile. Life may not always be perfect - like when you get injured and lose one of your legs - but life is too short not to be happy. Being "three-wheel drive" as my foster mom calls it, certainly doesn't slow me down! I'm pretty sure that fourth leg was just a spare anyway. The only real downside is not being able to give a good scratch to my right ear, but that's where you come in to save the day. I do well with many dogs and match best with a dog who is playful like me. I also stayed with a dog-savvy cat for a while and did great! I enjoy going for walks, meeting new people, and laying in the soft grass to soak up the sun. To learn more about the adoption process, application, and fees, visit mpbf.org, email info@mpbf.org or call 336-618-PITT. CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE My name is Fred. As an older guy I have some mobility limitations and some hearing problems, but still have some pep in my step. I love to follow my foster parents around, and am very comfortable with them and other dogs in the house. One description is that I am a Velcro Basset because I like to be close. Another one of my best attributes is that I have an uncommonly soft coat and don t shed much. Yeah, I am a little older and not interested (or able) to take a jog with you. BUT, I would love to be around you, follow you around, and generally be your guy. To adopt me, please call 888-909- 2387 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. CAROLINA BOXER RESCUE Howdy, I m Hattie Mae and this is my sister Holly (don t tell her that she is not a Boxer). We re a couple of well-mannered senior girls looking for a soft, quiet place to land. Our owner became unable to care for us and CBR committed to finding us both a new home together. We re both house-trained and get along well with everyone including other animals and children. If you re looking for someone to spend your retirement years with or looking for a couple of laid back girls to join your pack, look no further. To adopt us, email carolinaboxer@gmail.com or call 910-799-5638. Visit www.carolinaboxerrescue.org for info. CHIHUAHUA RESCUE & TRANSPORT - SOUTHEAST My name is Jenny and I m a 13-year-old princess who is just 6 pounds. I am hard of hearing and can t see very well but I m literally the sweetest dog ever. I purr when you pick me up! I enjoy sleeping most of the day and will bark when my tummy needs filling. I had a dental checkup and don t have many teeth left, so soft foods are best for me. Even though my joints are old, I love to be picked up and loved on. I also enjoy walking around outside. I am spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. To adopt me, please call 910-297-6874, send an email to carolinascoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com, or visit www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/.
