Basic FAQs We hope that you will find the answers to your questions either in the FAQ section or in our Resource library. There is a lot of valuable information here, but it is worth reading all of it. If you do not find the answer to your question here, please feel free to send us an email or call us on our toll free number. We will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible. What is the average time needed to train a dog using a pet containment system? The training time varies with each dog, and each owner or dog trainer. It also depends on what you are training your pet to do, the type of dog being trained and the trainer's skill. Your pet learns in small stages and its understanding is tested at each stage. On an average, it takes 10 minutes, twice a day for 2 weeks to train it to be comfortable with the electric dog fence. (Please refer to the article in our Resource Library called Importance of Dog Fence Training). Do electric dog fences work? If you train your dog with the fence properly, electric dog fences have a great success rate. The problem is that most people either do not select/install them correctly or do not take the time to train their pets properly. Is my dog too big or too little? Dog fences have been proven safe and effective for all pets that weigh between 5-70 kg and have a neck size as small as 25 cm or as big as 55 cm. The adjustable collar allows you to create a perfect fit for it. For dogs that weigh or measure below this range, there are no collars available. Can I use more than one receiver collar on the system? Yes. There is no limit to the number of pets you can contain with the containment system. It s as simple as purchasing an additional receiver collar for each pet. Please visit our store if you wish to buy additional collars. Will the correction in the dog collar harm my pet when it crosses the electric fence boundary wire? Never. The mild static correction is designed to get your pet s attention by being undesirable enough to avoid the out of bounds area while being totally safe, harmless and humane. The correction produces less energy than that produced by a static shock from carpeting.

Will it harm me or anyone else to walk cross the electric dog fence boundary wire? No, you will not be harmed. Some people are concerned about this when they first learn about the electric dog fence. Please be assured that you will not get a correction unless you are holding the dog collar probes between your fingers while walking across the electric fence boundary wire. What is the difference between water resistant and waterproof dog collars? A water-resistant dog receiver collar can be worn in light rain, snow or other inclement weather. However, it will be damaged when submerged in water. A waterproof dog collar receiver can be worn when bathing or swimming in a pool or lake. Being submerged in water will not harm it if it is fully waterproof. How long do the batteries last? Battery life varies greatly depending on the type of battery, how you use and maintain the product and the operating temperature. The rechargeable battery collars should hold the charge for about 2 months. How old should my dog be before using an electronic device? We recommend that your pet be at least 6 months old, or when it understands basic commands such as sit and stay. Should my pet be on the leash the first time it receives the correction? Yes, your pet should definitely be on the leash. This way, you can easily pull it out and redirect it to sit and stay in what we call the safe area. How long should I leave the flags up? The flags are used as a visual aid for your dog and should remain up for at least 2 weeks, but in some case as long as 30 days. Once the dog is trained to the system, what is the best way to take him out of the boundary or pet containment area? You can create what is referred to as an invisible gate in a certain spot and take the pet only through this gate. To achieve this, you would need to place a long leash on it. Turn the system off, remove the collar and put it on the sit and stay command near the area that will become the gate. You walk out of the yard and ask it to follow.

What is the dummy collar effect? This is a procedure where the collar is eliminated as a factor in learning. In other words, the dog wears the collar without it being activated for 3-5 days. This way, it will not learn that the collar triggers the correction unless it gets too close to the boundary. How long should I take to create the dummy collar effect? How many days should the dog wear a deactivated collar before receiving the correction for the first time? On average, it will take at least 3 days and as long as 7 days. How do I prevent one dog from chewing on the collar of another dog? If you see this happening, pull your dog away and redirect him to sit and stay. A daily spray of Lysol on the collar will help repel the other dog. Why can't I leave the dog collar receiver on my dog for more than 12 hours? When any dog receiver collar is worn for extended periods (more than 3 days), the metal prongs can irritate the skin and cause a condition similar to bedsores. We recommend you take the collar off at night and put it back in the morning to avoid this skin irritation, which can affect some dogs but not all. What is an In-ground Pet Fence system or electric dog fence? There are 3 parts to an In-ground Pet Fence system or electric dog fence: The Transmitter, which plugs into a standard power outlet and emits a radio signal that travels through the wire The Waterproof Wire that you can either bury or place above the ground and connect to the transmitter box forming a closed loop circuit, which creates a boundary to contain your dog in a pet containment area of your choosing, and The Dog Collar Receiver that is worn on your dog s collar. How do electric dog fences work? For electronic dog fences, there is a wire that is connected to a transmitter placed inside your house or garage. The wire is installed around the safe area, which is the area your pet is allowed to access. The transmitter box emits a radio signal, 360 degrees around the wire to the receiver on the electronic dog collar that beeps to alert your dog if it gets too close to boundary (buried wire). If your dog continues

moving towards the boundary wire, it will receive a correction from the radio signal. When it is properly trained, it learns to go back to the house when it hears the beep. Is the system complicated to install and operate? From installation through training, the easy-to-follow manual enclosed will walk you through every step. Plus, if you ever have a question, our customer service centre is here to help you. Will it work in my yard? Yes, the electric dog fence products work in yards of all sizes, regardless of layout. (Please refer to the article in our Resource Library called Dog Containment Layout). If your yard is larger than 1/2 an acre, then you will need additional wire and flags that are sold separately. The 300m roll of wire in the fence kit will only covers approximately 1.2 acres and the 150m roll will cover approximately 0.5 acres. Where can I install the wire? Using an underground fence, you can fence out flowerbeds, driveways, gardens, landscaping, go around trees or down steep lots and even run it underwater! Product models contain detailed instructions on how to install the wire in these environments. The wire needs to form a closed loop circuit around the area in which your dog can roam freely. Where the ends meet, you need to either twist the wires or use twisted wire to cancel the signal, and then run it to the transmitter box in your house or garage. This allows your dog a free zone all the way around it. In some places you will need to bury the wire, put it through a water hose (like with underwater installation), or attach it to a surface such as an existing fence. Do not use a garden hose with a metallic coating, as that would block the signal. Adjust the signal field by taking a charged collar and walking toward the wire. Set the boundary flags in the ground when you hear the collar beep. Adjust the button if it beeps too close or too far from the line. Do this around the entire containment area, setting your flags. What are the most common mistakes people make when installing the electric dog fence? 1. Rushing the training or putting the fence up and expecting the dog to know how it

works. See how to train below. 2. Putting out too few flags. You may have seen people install the flags every 3.5-4.5 metres apart in their yards. This is one of the most common mistakes. Dogs do not sit around connecting the dots, and will often attempt to run in between the flags. Definitely get enough flags to mark the wire every 1.5 metres. We recommend using string or marker tape from flag to flag, or grade stakes to show the dog a clear line. Does the wire have to be buried? No, the system will operate properly above ground. We recommend that you bury the wire approximately 10-15 cm to prevent damage. You can rent an electric edger or trencher that quickly makes the slit in the ground for the wire. One person can go along with the edger to make the slot and the second can follow with the fence wire, drop it in the slot and step on it to close the slot. You can do this all around the boundary of your pet containment area. It takes no time at all to bury the wire. What is meant by the pet area or pet containment area? This is the safe area where the dog can roam freely without getting a static correction. Will the electric dog fence keep other dogs out of my yard? No, the other dogs must also wear an electric dog fence collar for it to work. Is this a safe and effective way to train my pet? Yes, absolutely the correction while being merely unpleasant is safe and harmless. These types of fences and training devices require training from the owner and interaction with your pet to achieve desired results. Veterinarians and animal behaviourists developed them to ensure safety and peace of mind for both you and your pet. Can I use this system to stop my dog from jumping over or digging under a wood or metal fence? Yes, the fact is that approximately 40% of those buying an electric dog fence already own an existing physical fence. Can I use the system on an aggressive dog? We do not recommend using any of our products for aggressive dogs. If you are

unsure if your pet is aggressive, please consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer. Is my Containment system legal? Due to the legislative environment within Australia, there are some Australian States where there are restrictions for their use, sale and/or possession. It is important that you check the legislative guidelines within your State to ensure the product you are using or about to purchase is legal within your State.
