Learn with Dogs Trust! Exciting and interactive dog-themed workshops, all curriculum linked, that can help you deliver almost any subject PHSE, SMSC and safety around dogs are naturally embedded within our resources and workshops.

Maths Workshops A fun and interactive way to relate maths to real life! Pupils will estimate the cost of owning a dog by taking part in addition, multiplying, budgeting and problem solving activities as we add up everything a dog needs to be happy and healthy. Literacy Workshops Curriculum linked literacy activities involving listening, talking, reading and writing. By relating them all to our key messages on Responsible Dog Ownership and Safety Around Dogs, not only do we improve the children s reading and writing skills, but we also encourage empathy and compassion through their love of dogs and animals.

Science Workshop: Senses Pupils will identify and explore dogs senses, and learn the differences between our senses and a dog s through fun experiments and interactive activities. Science Workshop: Evolution and Adaptation How did the Chihuahua and the Great Dane both evolve from the Grey Wolf? In this fascinating topic we explore evolution, selective breeding and how certain adaptations are advantageous for survival.

Citizenship Workshop: Eco Schools There are many ways responsible dog owners can be ecofriendly from scooping the poop and exercising with a dog, to looking at how dog owners can reduce, re-use and recycle. The Rain We re even going to recycle the rain to give us water. What do we use water for? Citizenship Workshop: A day in the life of a Dogs Trust dog Book this workshop and your pupils will hear all about the story of a dog that comes to Dogs Trust. They will help to care for my dog by brushing him, scanning for his microchip and scooping the poop whilst discussing their own needs & developing empathy.

Citizenship Workshop: Rights and Responsibilities This workshop uses the Five Welfare Needs that all animals have a right to that help to form the Animal Welfare Act. Pupils find out what all owners must provide for their pets. Older pupils reflect on what happens when these needs are not met by looking at some real case studies of dogs. PSHE: Healthy Living and Wellbeing: A Dog s Needs Pupils find out what dogs need to be healthy and happy as well as learning what we (humans) need to achieve mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing.

History: Dogs in War Workshop Learn how dogs helped humans in both world wars and begin to understand why this makes them good at certain jobs or even better than humans at some tasks! Diary Activity Prince, an Airedale terrier, recruited by the British Army and trained at the War Dog School, was sent out to the Western Front in July 1940. Prince s battalion came under heavy fire and if the men were to survive they needed reinforcements and ammunition from headquarters 2 miles away. No human runner would have been fast enough, so Lt. Richardson slipped a message into Prince s collar and said: Goodbye, Prince. Go back boy... Careers Day : Jobs at Dogs Trust and Dogs with Jobs workshop Pupils interested in working with dogs? Learn about the different roles available within Dogs Trust, understand what a charity is and discover how dogs with jobs can help us!

Be Dog Smart Workshops Be Dog Smart is our new campaign helping families understand more about how to behave around dogs in order to keep themselves safe. Some people may never own dogs but we are all guaranteed to meet a dog at some point in our life. It is therefore important that pupils learn how to meet any dog in the correct way, learn what to do if scared of dogs and develop a respect and empathy for dogs. Extra talks for parents and carers can also be arranged. Assemblies Would you like your pupils to learn more about the work of Dogs Trust or perhaps you would like to do some fundraising for us and are keen to find out where the money you raise will go? Most of the subjects previously listed can also be delivered as assemblies.

Got a topic or project in mind not represented here? Bespoke lessons can be created on request! There is absolutely no cost and you can book as many workshops as you like! Please note that not all Education and Community Officers have participating dogs. If you would like to arrange for me to visit your school, or simply require more information, please email me at: Bethan.Richardson@dogstrust.org.uk Or call 07920658693 www.learnwithdogstrust.org.uk Dogs Trust: a dog is for life.
