Blooms from: DG John Kontos As 2013-2014 Lionistic Year continues to pass, a continuous stream of questions comes to mind. Who are you? Why did you join the Lions? Why did you stay? What did you contribute? What is your legacy? How did you make a difference? A super competent Immediate Past District Governor, Lion Karen Routson from 11C-2 recently wrote about us volunteers. When we think of volunteering, we mostly think of hands-on service and fundraising for special causes. That s the most important part, but the organization needs to make the plans and lead to keep us strong. As a leader, you will make friends in a larger area and exchange new ideas with them. Just think: YOU might be just the person to provide inspiration to our Lions and solutions to our challenges! Follow a new dream to be a Lions leader! Try it you ll like it! Thank you Lion Karen. We continue to be proud MD11 District with: ~ International Director Esther LaMothe from Novi Lions Club serving yet another 18 months. ~ Immediate Past District Governor Jim Pettinato from Lake Orion Lions Club serving as Vice Council Chair of the Council of Governors and soon to be Council Chair. ~ Lion Jim Leach, Jr. from Lake Orion Lions Club seeking the office of 1 st. Vice District Governor Elect at next month s convention. ~ Lion Tom Hill from Fraser Lions Club seeking the office of Governor Elect at next month s convention. ~ Lion Patti Barr from the Novi Lions Club stepping forward and seeking the position of 2 nd. Vice District Governor at our District Convention. ~ Lion Leo Schaefer from the Armada Lions Club seeking the office of Region 3 Chair. ~ Lion Bob Caron of the Madison Heights Lions Club and Lion Sal Caruso of the Sterling Heights Lions Club seeking the office of Region 2 Chair. ~ Lion John Bingham of the Pontiac Lions Club seeking the office of Region 1 Chair. ~ PDG Bob Bobee of the Warren Lions Club seeking the office of Trustee of the Lions of Michigan Service Foundation. ~ Lion Kim Thiede of the Fraser Lions Club who has chaired the Michigan Lions Forum Committee to a resounding start of her three year term. The Lions running and seeking these offices need your support and votes. Select your club delegates and alternates and attend 11A-2 March 28 th -30 th District Convention at the Hilton Grand Rapids Airport. Exercise your votes and support to these Lions is one thing. Plans and events for your pleasure, entertainment and convenience include Friday Night s 7-10 mixer with DJ Mike Dolecki, Photo Booth with unlimited sessions with props provided, and hospitality rooms of Regions Chairs and Governor s Teams. Saturday sessions which include Business Awards, Ladies Luncheon, Session with International Director Dr. Hauser Weiler of Virginia. Saturday Evening Dinner and later more hospitality rooms, concluding with Sunday Memorial Service and Elections. We ll be introduced to our appointed and elected 2014-2015 11A-2 Cabinet which will officially take charge in July when they are officially installed. According to Lion Brian Shepard, this year s Chairman of Lions of Michigan Multiple District 11, a personal comparison study of membership numbers this year VS those of last year showed him that the State: 1. Increased adding new members by almost 6% from last year. 2. Reinstated nearly 41% more members than last year. 3. Captured over 27% of transferred members.

Blooms from: DG John Kontos Continued Council Chair Brian indicated that the total number of added membership this year is nearly 16% up from last year, while the State has lowered the number of dropped members by nearly 3%. He added that the State Membership Total is down by only 2% at 138 members VS 238 members at the same time last year. He is asking all the Governors, the clubs, and club members to Keep up the Great Work and stay positive for the rest of the Lionistic Year. Our Ad Hoc Extension Team is currently developing a Goal and Action Plan for targeting Ferndale as our Second New Chartered Club area this Lionistic Year. More encouraging information is forthcoming for training and action. Last District Cabinet Meeting will be held on Sunday 13 th. at the Fraser Lions Den where the newly elected Cabinet will be presented and the Club of the Year will be announced. Congratulations to all the winners. I tried to do as well as my brother running the tournament and I hope everyone enjoyed it. Oh by the way Lake Orion Lions will be the host next year. The Selfridge North Macomb Lions did a fine job hosting this year. February sure went by fast. I did a lot of traveling, going to Indianapolis for 1st VG training and the Michigan Forum. Both events were full of information and I hope to learn from it. As Lions, we should try to attend any training session that we can learn more. We are not too old to learn. Convention is coming up fast. I would like your support for me as your next Govenor for 2014-2015. Please visit me in my hospitality room. Remember why you became a Lion. Was it to help people out, serve your community, join a friend, whatever reason, do you still feel the same? If not get back on track and enjoy being a Lion. See you at the convention. I don t care that it s the third snowiest winter ever and I really have no desire to break the record. Do you realize to do that we will have to get over two more feet of snow? At this rate, the snow will still be melting when we are at 1 st Vice District Governor Tom s Installation Picnic! This is just crazy. I know we are in Michigan and we are supposed to have snow in winter but, this is a little much. Sorry for that little rant there, I am better now! In the month of February, we finished up our last round of Region Meetings. There was a lot of great information shared about what all of the clubs did for fundraisers and what they have coming up. One project that was mentioned by many clubs were Texas Hold em events. I know my club used to do these and made good money at them. They are probably one of the easiest fundraisers a club can do. Then, when you realize that you are not standing out on a busy street trying to collect money for White Canes, mints, candy canes, Goodfellows or whatever, worrying about the cold weather, hot weather wet weather it makes it that much better for your club. There is a movement being started by the Casinos to try and stop these Texas Hold em events from happening for Non-Profits, or at least, change them enough that it would make it harder to hold them and not make as much money. If your club is already doing these or considering doing them, you would definitely benefit by talking to PDG Doc Barr out of the Novi Lions Club. He has been involved in all of this since the beginning and can share all of it with you and your club so you know what is going on and what you are getting into. Hey, it s March, that means that there is a District Convention headed our way. This year s convention looks to be great. We are in a new location which, I have heard, is a little smaller than in the past. We should have the whole place to ourselves, which would be great. I still have a few clubs that I need to visit, if your club would like me to come out, please contact me and let me know. I will be more than happy to spend some time with your club. I will talk to you next month. Lioness District Liaison s s Report I know that some day soon we will see our lawns and have some warmer weather. All of the Region Meetings are done and our next event is the Convention in Grand Rapids on March 28-30. Hope that I will be seeing some of our Lioness there. After our Joint Meeting in January it proved how tough the Lioness in 11-A2 are. We had 23 Lioness show up. At the meeting, I told the group and have sent out information regarding our spring project. "Seedlings", I want to thank the Lioness clubs that brought this charity to my attention. An event that is very close to Lioness Lynn Voisich is Goal-Ball. It will be at Warren - Mott school and it is March 1st and 2nd. If you have any questions you can get in touch with Lynn or call Becky Hercula at 586-574-3047 or e-mail bmomrn@gmail.com. It is a team sport for athletes who are blind or visually impaired. They are also looking for volunteers. The event is FREE. With this cold weather, it would be a nice thing to do indoors. There are videos of this sport which can be found online. I have enjoyed being Liaison this year and even though I have a few months left on my term, I just want all of the Lioness to know how I enjoyed meeting all of you. If you have any questions please feel free to call or e-mail me 586-792-0329 or sassycat1@wowway.com Sincerely, Lioness Fran Black

To all clubs in District 11-A2, The 2014 District Convention will be here sooner than we can imagine. With that in mind, I and others will be planning the Memorial Service to remember those members who are no longer with us. We will be compiling names of deceased members from several sources including those names each club will offer. We are asking that each club locate and forward a picture of each deceased club member who will be remembered in the Memorial Service. PDG Rich Pfeiffer will collect the pictures and put them in a Power Point format to be used during the Service. If each club could send the pictures electronically to PDG Rich at pdgrich@yahoo.com, as each deceased member is remembered, a picture will be available for all to see. If that is not easily possible, a photo can be scanned into the presentation please contact either PDG Rich or myself and we will make it happen. Also, by this letter, I am requesting (as I have in past years) that each club send me a notification of any member who has passed away since our last district convention. Please send the name of the deceased member, your club name and, if possible, the name(s) of those who will be talking briefly about the member. Thank you for your help. Lion Ray Babin, District Chaplain COMING ATTRACTION!! 1 st Lady Marylin and the Ladies of Clinton Valley Lions Club invite you to attend the Lady s Luncheon at the Governor s Convention in March 2014. The World s Longest Lunch Relay - ID Esther LaMothe At our Board Meeting in Australia, President Palmer announced a special worldwide lunch that will take place during the April Family and Friend Month. He is asking each of our districts to plan a special event for one day in April. The tentative date is Friday, April 4, 2014. Lions Longest Lunch Relay The lunch will take place worldwide, a 24-hour, international event that brings families and friends of Lions together in their local communities with families and friends of Lions around the world. It is a great opportunity to share a meal and celebrate Lion successes, service stories and the rewards of being a Lion. Here s how the Lions Longest Lunch Relay will work: Participating clubs will schedule a lunch for their family and friends on April 4th. As clubs around the world host lunches in different international time zones, the Lunch Relay will move from time zone to time zone and steadily make its way around the globe, forming the Lions Longest Lunch Relay. Here s how Lions can join the Lions Longest Lunch Relay: 1. Plan a lunch event Choose a time, location and menu 2. Register the lunch event - Share the time and location for the lunch (there will be a registration page on LCI s website) 3. Celebrate the event take photos and share the fun through social media.
