Amidst the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holidays, I hope that everybody can relax, take a deep breath and realize how much we have to be thankful for. I ve heard it said before that gratitude is the best attitude, and that seems very appropriate at this special time of the year! Please mark your calendars for December 18 @ 6:30 for our annual Christmas Party, to be held once again at the beautiful Poinsett Club in downtown Greenville. The invitation, with all the pertinent information, is posted on this newsletter as well as being emailed and/or mailed to you personally. I hope you are planning to join us for a night of awards, festive atmosphere, great music, delicious food and wonderful fellowship. Thank you to Ken and Debbie Walker for planning and organizing our match this past month at PKC s facility in Charlotte. Turn-out was a bit light (I think due to location and time of day), but all in all, was enjoyed by all in attendance. I hope to see everyone at our meeting this month. Our GKC Board Slate of Officers for 2019 will be announced again, and, you will have the opportunity to nominate any other individuals from the floor. I wish everyone a Thanksgiving full of family, friends, dogs and lots of turkey! Blessings to all. Till next time, Jeanette Yearly Dues - Ken Spiegel Just a reminder that our yearly dues are payable on January 1 st. I ll be mailing everyone an invoice this month. You can pay by mail, online, or at our January meeting. Dues for 2019 will be $25 for Individual, $40 for Family, and $15 for Associate Members. No dues are charged for Life Members and Junior Members.

Page 5 Greenville Kennel Club News AKC Outstanding Sportsmanship Award Nominations At the November meeting, the Membership will vote by secret ballot to select the recipient of the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. The Nominations are: Thecla Tyner Thecla is a very successful breeder of Vizsla dogs showing she has the love of purebred dogs. As an owner handler she is very well respected. As a club member she encourages and supports our club members and new club members. She is available to take on club responsibilities when asked and when needed. Her kindness and sportsmanship make her such a valuable member of GKC. Kris Harner Kris Harner makes a real difference in the sport of purebred dogs each year when she tirelessly and unselfishly chairs our 2,200+ entry All Breed Dog Show. She sets an example for all of us by forgoing the opportunity to show her own dog at her "home show", by working countless hours to plan & put together the best show she can and then by working nearly round the clock while the show is going on (and sometimes for days or weeks after the show is over). This alone would normally be enough to nominate Kris. However, the main reason I am nominating her is not merely for the time and dedication she gives to our sport, but because of the way in which she does it. There's a reason our show always appears to run seamlessly and easily from the start of taping on Tuesday until the last diehards leave the building on Sunday evening. This reason is the way Kris diligently works behind the scenes to take care of problems, minimize "drama" that might detract from our show, and proactively monitor every aspect of the show to make sure things are running as they should. I've watched Kris over the past 6 years in many different situations and can confidently say that she consistently "embodies the AKC Code of Sportsmanship" whether she is competing as an owner-handler in the show ring, fulfilling her duties as a valued member of our Board of Directors, or chairing our show. Linda Knorr She has devoted her life to the sport of purebred dogs. She has worked tirelessly in our GKC and the AKC. She promotes the Junior Handlers and advocates for the newcomers. Linda is one of the sports best representatives. There are too many reasons to list why she deserves this award: just ask anyone about Linda and her role in the dog world. She is not only respected in the sport- she is " loved' by 2 and 4 legged beings!

Greenville Kennel Club News Page 6 Floor Nominations for 2019 Officers Nominations for GKC Officers will be accepted from the floor during the November meeting. Owner/Handler Trophies - Janine Strait I have completed 62 original canvases for 62 owner/ handler winners for the 7/19 dog shows. There will be 31 different breeds for each of our 2 days. Jeff has organized the paintings by groups on posters for Meet the Breeds presentations. This will allow the public to see more dogs than are available for the usual Meet the Breeds presentations. I hope everyone likes the art. I tried to capture the personality of the various breeds in my unique style of acrylic paintings. Hopefully this has piqued your curiosity and increased the excitement for the shows. They will be here before you know it! Janine Strait

Sunshine Committee Becky Ward The Club sends its deepest sympathies to Tracy Ifland and her family on the recent passing of her brother after a courageous battle with cancer. Please keep Tracy and her family in your prayers and thoughts at this sad time. Ruth Turner and Bev Crosby both need our prayers and encouragement as they are very busy with their days being filled with caretaking of both parents, (Ruth) and Beverly's mother. Both of Ruth 's parents have fallen and sustained a broken hip (are in Rehab now healing) and Bev's mother has declined in health and will need hospice. The sister of Paula Ford, Ms. Donna Pack has recently had surgery on her right foot, so we wish her all the best and a very speedy recovery with healing! The Club wishes a Very Happy Birthday to all of our November members including: Ruth Turner (11/6) Jamie Hootman (11/4) Ron Carter (11/21) and Linda Knorr (11/24). Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and may you all have a very blessed and thankful Holiday with family and friends.
