Did you know HCNC has a rescue side too? And you can help with the fundraising just by walking with or without your puppers! Downloading the app is easy! http://www.wooftrax.com 1. Set the charity of your choice by choosing your state. (High Country Newfoundland Rescue is under the state of New Mexico, not Colorado) 2.Then run the app whenever you are out walkng. There are often challenges which can get us in the running to win big money. (the winner of the current challenge wins $1,000 for their selected charity.) 3. You can even run the app when you are just walking around the grocery store! Every little bit helps! Let's see how many people we can get walking for High Country Newf Rescue!!! "ALL THINGS COLORADO" HCNC is putting together a "basket" for auction at the 2018 National Specialty. The basket is actually going to be a cart and harness, and we want to fill the cart with "All Things Colorado". Examples of items that would be great to go in the cart are; dog toys and treats, beer or wine from Colorado, anything locally made, Broncos stuff, water bottles, jellies, jams, honey, t-shirts etc. Anyone interested in donating items for the basket, please contact Joyce Boone at 828-406-3220, or newrivernewfs@hotmail.com. Items need to be to me by April 15, 2018. Thanking everyone in advance! --- Joyce Boone Look for more information coming soon for a NEWF FUN DAY coming this summer. Have fun with your newfs in a relaxed park setting, bbq, newfie games and more. More details to follow! Any and all helpers welcome, so if you are a pro griller, love to plan picnics, or just want to meet some new people, call Sue Raney at 720-320-1663 to volunteer.

Submitted by Patti Pigeon, Water Test Chairman WATER TESTS PROVIDED A SUMMER FULL OF FUN. High Country Newf Club held two sets of test weekends, July 28, 29 and 30 and September 15-16, 2017. The July test welcomed water enthusiasts from coast to coast, old and new friends from all over the country, enjoying the beautiful Colorado summer. We had a high rate of success for our early test, with many dogs earning their Junior titles, and some great performances by our water rescue dogs. Students from Golden High School volunteered as stewards. How fun it was to watch their amazement at the talent our Newfies displayed. September s test also welcomed friends from far and wide. Even though there was one day less of competition, there was still plenty of fun to go around. Arvada West National Honor Society students helped steward for September, and did a super job! Entrants of all levels participated, from our tadpole competition, to WD/WRD/WRDX to veterans, we had newfs of all shapes and sizes, newf friends and lots and lots of special moments. Special thanks to judges Sue Raney, Sue Marino and Gaby Cohen (July) and Maria Rizzuto and Cindi Kursner (September). Submitted by Shine Sturtz and Lorileigh Moreland CONGRATULATIONS TO FOUR NEW DRAFT DOGS What a whirlwind weekend! From start to finish, we had an incredible pool of volunteers. From food to stewards, your hard work made our 2017 Barktoberfest Draft Test a great success. Thank you so much for your commitment of time and energy. Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. You shared your time and talents and I want to let you all know how valued you and your contributions were. It matters. It makes a difference. The most precious resource we have is our time, and the time you contributed to Barktoberfest made a tangible impact! With your help, we have four new Draft Dogs! Whether you are a long-time volunteer or if you got involved fairly recently, and regardless of how many hours you choose to give, it s important for you to know that what you do makes a difference. Without you, these four talented newfies wouldn't have passed. Teller: Ch. ALL of our Newfoundland sporting events are a major undertaking that is only made possible by the efforts of our club s members working as a club to organize, promote, host, volunteer and commit to the best breed of dog there is, the sweet Newfoundland. It is great to enter one of our two draft tests, two water tests or our regional specialty, but not one of these sporting events would be possible without volunteers. So, thank you to every one of you that has volunteered this year, and years past, and, if you have never volunteered, this is your invitation! Come! Sit! Stay! And Play! ---Lori With Gratitude I would like to emphasize the gratitude we feel for everyone who came out and helped. This test brought together new member applicants as well as people who have been members since I was just a kid playing in the mud while they worked their dogs. It was really great to see, and I look forward to playing with everyone again, spending time in the company of the best dogs there are!!! This novice committee could not have done it without a lot of help from previous chairs and club members who really came together to make this test a success. Once again we had an amazing fall themed lunch provided both days by Carol and Jeff Jefferson. Judges Pam Saunders and Denise Castonguay were fabulous to work with and we extend our sincere thanks to them for coming and playing with us! --- Shine

Perrie and Me on our Journey to DD. For those of you who know us, this has been a journey. In the prime of water and draft work for Perrie, I had the accident that broke my back and it has been a continuous struggle for me. Perrie knows this stuff and I think he wasn t going to not do it without me, the many tests trying to have someone else handle him and he would not cooperate. It's me, as I've been so eloquently reminded about all my "handler errors", so this is a big deal to me and so very special for me and Perrie. He came into my life at just the right time, he has taught me through his mirroring my stubbornness and has reminded me that even when things are not ideal, we will survive and get it done for each other and together, with my special boy, that was a very special day in October. ~ Love this boy more than words can ever say Katherine Payne Navy, Honeylane's Lost Sailor, was: 3rd in the 9-12 month Puppy Class at the Newfoundland National Specialty in Gleneden Beach, OR Best Puppy in Sweepstakes at the HCNC Regional November 9th in Pueblo Reserve Winners Dog (to a 5 point Major) at the HCNC Regional November 9th in Pueblo Reserve Winners Dog (to a 5 point Major) at the Southern Colorado Kennel Club November 10th in Pueblo Winners Dog for a 4 point Major at the Southern Colorado Kennel Club November 11th in Pueblo Reserve Winners Dog (to a 3 point Major) at the Greater Collin Kennel Club December 8th in Dallas Winners Dog for a 4 point Major at the Trinity Valley Kennel Club December 10th in Dallas

She slept at my feet as I pressed on at the computer. As an introduction, Summit and I became members in 2016 just after she joined Jim, myself, our four children and our Berner Boy, Moose. Summit and I are known to frequent Chatfield Lake for water rescue training, and we are working on draft with the equipment I had hoped to use 3 or 4 dogs ago. In one of my previous careers, I served as newsletter editor for a national firm, so I do like to write. I realized my limited technical capabilities, however, when I became newsletter editor for my pre-school PTA club, but THAT was when flip phones were the newest advancement in technology. I recall as a youngster running to the mailbox with great anticipation, hoping that my Jack and Jill Magazine would have arrived. My hope today is that y'all will look forward to the arrival of your HCNC newsletter. My goal is to share with my fellow membership prompt, accurate, and informative information.--lisa IntroducIng SummIt S ShenanIganS In 6 Squares
