Top per kilo on the day was 259p for a smart pen of 40.4 kilos 104.80 from Margaret and Peter Pascoe, Marlence, Poundstock followed by Messrs Crouch and Wakeham of Lifton who realised 254p 103 for a pen of 40.6 kilos. Brian Harding and Family of Burlorne Farm, Wadebridge had a smart run of lambs which topped at 251p 100.20 40 kilos. 15 Pens realised 105 and over to a top of 110.50 for a pen of Texel x from Chris and Mark Dymond, Higher Hollick, Yarnscombe. Rod Evely, Peters Marland had two cracking pens of Texel x lambs to achieve 108.80 and Messrs H Hoskin & Sons, Wooda, St Veep realised 108 for a pen of 44 kilos. 254 DRAFT EWES & RAMS A much faster trade up around 9 to 10 a head with all the hill and plain ewes in the overall average on the day which was 76.10, top on the day was 97.50 from Rob Johns, Bradworthy. COUPLES 24 EWES & 29 LAMBS A good entry of couples for June, very much sought after. Top on the doubles was 178 for Pat Sanders, Heath, Bradworthy and singles topped at 162 from Messrs AF & SG Loud & Sons, Lewdown.

Messrs CM, WJ & JM Elliott from Bradford made the headlines as usual with a smart pair of British Blue x bulls both selling for 525 with their other good British Blue x bulls selling for 512, 505 and 470 with their British Blue x heifers achieving 470 and 450. Also with a good line up of British Blue x calves this week was Messrs LJ Goaman & Sons from Hartland with their best pair at 520 with others at 495, 475, 460 and 450 and going on to top the heifer section with their best British Blue x making 505 with other good heifers at 470, 465, 460, 458 and 450. Also making headlines this week was Messrs SA & EJ Kirk from Petrockstowe selling their best Charolais x bull calf for 475 and other good young British Blue x bull calves sold to 428 on behalf of Messrs P Philp from Umberleigh. Limousin x bull calves sold to 422 on behalf of Messrs JG & S Endacott from Halwill who sold another at 400 and Aberdeen Angus x bulls flew away to 375 for Ranches Ltd from Bridestowe who sold another at 335 and the pick of the Hereford x bulls to 310 for Messrs CG & BA Dart & Son from Holsworthy. Friesian bulls saw a good average of 135.60 with some strong calves to 315, 295 and 285 three times for Messrs RA, JF & RH Poole from Milton Damerel and Messrs S Baker & Son from Lewdown sold Friesian bulls for 192 and 185 who also went on to sell a strong Simmental x heifers for 430 with another at 415. The winners of this week s Genus prizes of 25 for the highest priced bull and heifer calves under 42 days went to Mrs P Philp, Park End Farm, Umberleigh with a British Blue x bull making 428 sired by Greystone Jet, the heifer section was won by Mr F Disney, Loatmead Farm, Bradworthy with a British Blue x fetching 205 sired by Newpole Easy. 200 STORE CATTLE - 11am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 A superb entry of store cattle saw the buyers gallery packed full of buyers ready to spend. Overall top call of the day was 1230 given for a pair of British Blue steers from Yeo Vale Farms of Bideford. Tony Giddy made the long journey up from Downderry in Cornwall to sell his line up of 14 15 month old British Blue at 1210 with Aberdeen Angus steers 14 months old at 1015. The first part of the dispersal from Messrs G & N Cook of Buckland Brewer hit 1015 for 15 month old British Blues whilst the Timms Family of Inwardleigh topped their line up at 1010. Messrs D & W Thomas made long trip up from Tresillian near Truro to sell their group of Aberdeen Angus steers 23 months old really well at 985 going to their new home near Honiton. In the heifer pens Messrs CR & CF Timms & Son of Inwardleigh saw their Simmental heifers hit 1130 aswell as 19 month old Charolais at 1095. 18 Month old Aberdeen Angus heifers came from Trewall Farm at 995 with Messrs RW & R Risdon of North Tamerton at 980 and 970. Breeding bulls from Graham May, Port Isaac to 1460 for a Limousin. This week s winner of the Lark Plant award for top price store cattle goes to Yeo Vale Farms, Yeo Vale, Bideford for a pair of British Blue steers reaching 1230. PRIME CATTLE, OTM CATTLE & GRAZING COWS Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 Numbers short but prices flying high with the best of a small entry of medium weight heifers at 1049 on behalf of Mr DF Barrett of Shebbear. No where near enough cull cows on offer to fill buyers orders pushing the trade upto 1146 for Graham May of Port Isaac with Messrs WR Manfield & Son of Bude close up at 1075. Just a few grazing cows forward topping at 777 on behalf of Messrs Stevens & Criddle of Alverdiscott. STRAW 10.45am Auctioneer: James Morrish 07814 010133 A nice entry of barley straw saw spirited bidding with a lorry and trailer load of barley straw totalling 27.5 ton direct from the Cotswolds on behalf of Thomas Gaden of Stow On The Wold reaching 90 per a ton going to Hartland with another load of barley straw from Jeff Jones of Winkleigh at 19 per a bale. 52 Acres of mowing grass sold this week to a top call of 55 per an acre on behalf of Messrs Orchard of Bradford. 31 DAIRY CATTLE - 11.30 am Auctioneer: Mark Bromell - 07966 430001 Mark Davis - 07773 371774 A smaller sale for the early month dairy sale due to Royal Cornwall Show saw a level trade throughout. DAIRY CATTLE Top Ave Freshly calved Heifers (1st quality) 1580 1425 Freshly calved Cows (1st quality ) 1420 1340 3 RD 4 TH Calving Cows 1420 1304 In calf heifers 1350 1246 Bulling heifers 560 560 Overall top price of 1580 was achieved for a smart freshly calved pedigree heifer Richwartha Deray yielding 32kgs on behalf of Gary Richards from Helston which was closely followed at 1550 for another of his pedigree heifers Richwartha Hunger Aster. Steve Wonnacott also broke the 1500 mark with a freshly calved heifer Tremaine June 72 sired by Tremaine Napolian. Cows were in strong demand topping at 1420 on two occasions, for a freshly calved 2 nd calver yielding 35Kgs sired by Woodmarsh Talisman sold on behalf of Mr ACH Govier of Umberleigh and a 3 rd calver yielding 33Kgs sired by Woodmarsh Topshot from Brian Bath and family, Bude. 4 TH Calvers sold at 1300. A consignment of in calf heifers due early to mid July from KJ Waldon of Umberleigh met a very strong trade with a top price of 1350 averaging 1246 with in calf heifers from Brian Bath also selling well and topping at 1250. Bulling heifers sold at 560 on behalf of SG & WA Tucker from Holsworthy. Wednesday 31 May On Farm Dispersal Sale of 304 British Friesian Type Cows & In Calf Heifers On behalf of Mr AJ Hextall Auctioneers: Mark Bromell 07966 430001 & Mark Davis 07773 371774 ~ Autumn Calving Cows a flying trade in West Sussex! ~ Kivells Dairy team travelled to West Sussex to conduct the On Farm dispersal of the entire Autumn Calving herd of British Friesians on behalf of Tony Hextall. The sale attracted buyers from far and wide from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, Hereford, Shropshire, Pembrokeshire & County Durham as well as a few local buyers! The first cow in the ring was a cracking second calver due in August by Deangate Quentin and she flew to 2000gns selling to Messrs Pugh of Hereford who was the biggest volume buyer of the day was taking home 45 of the very best animals in the sale! This really set the trade and soon followed with the top of the day at 2020gns for a heifer by Blackisle Benloyal purchased by Maristow Estate in Devon who purchased 30 head. Another heifer by the same sire sold at 1980gns with other young cows at 1900gns x 3, 1880gns x 3, 1850gns, 1800gns x 3, 10 over 1700gns and in total 73 over 1500gns!! There were 37 served or empty Cows which sold to less interest as expected but still made reasonable money with most between 700-1000gns. The British Friesian In Calf Heifers which were mostly due in August and September were a phenomenal trade and topped at 1450gns with a further 10 making 1400gns or more. A two year old Pedigree Aberdeen Angus bull sold at 2000gns. With an excellent crowd around the ring 304 head went through the ring in just under 4 hours and the day produced the following excellent averages: 200 Autumn Calving Cows & Heifers 1360 37 Served & Empty Cows 786 67 Autumn Calving In Calf Heifers 1369 3 Empty Heifers 665 1 Pedigree Aberdeen Angus 2100 304 Head 1288
