Introducti on Don't you know how a dog is a man's or women's or kid's best friend. Well to get to being best friends with your dog it takes allot of work. You need to get supplies, go to the vet, get food and water, walk the dog, get it to sleep, bathe it and love it. Many steps... but it's all worth it!

Supplies If your getting a dog soon or have one now, you'll need supplies. First you'll need a carrier/portable dog cage. You'll also need to know how big your dogs size because if you get a too big cage then your dog will be slipping and sliding around. If you get a too small cage your dog will be smushed. Put a blanket in the bottom of the cage so your dog will be comfy. "Squeak squeak." Your going to need some dog toys. Try to get something your dog can chew because he/ she will probably want to play wall he/she is is his/her carrier. Some toys that are okay for your doge to chew are rubber balls, tightly braided yarn or string and long squeaky animals. Dogs in their carrier

"Come back doggie, come back!" If you don't want to loose your dog like this person did you'll need a collar, dog tag and leash. A collar is like a neckless for dogs, just not that fancy. You can pick out the one you like and make shore it fits just like the carrier/portable cage. On the collar there is a adjusting system so your dog is not choking or the collar doesn't fall of. Next, the dog tag is something that you put on the collar. When you get the dog tag you can choose a shape such as a bone or tiara. On the tag it will say his/hers name, your phone number and if you want, your address. Once you finish with the dog tag put it on a ring that is attached to the collar. Wale your down there make shire you can get two fingers in the collar if not then it's to small. Okay now let's think back, we've done the cage, toys, collar, tag and now... the leash! Tiara tag Bone tag

When your buying it make sure that it's not too long so you can keep your dog out of mischief. When your dogs older you can get him/her a extending leash but never use it near streets or roads. The leash will have to be strong such as nylon or leather. You can't just make a leash out of string or rope. At one end of the leash there is a loop to put your hand in and at the other end there is a clip that will open If you press something down and the clip will open and you can clip it to the ring on the collar that the dog tag is attached to. There will be two rings one smaller and one bigger both attached to each other and then the small one is attached to the collar. All the stuff should be on the big hoop.

Food and Water "Munch much and slurp slurp!" Let's not forget the food and water. You can choose the brand of food and the flavor. If you are getting a puppy or have one then you should get a special type of food that has extra things that can help your puppy grow and stay healthy.next, for the water it's pretty simple. All you need to do is poor some cold water into a bowl, change the water often and make shore he/she has water. Then put the bowl on the floor so he/ she can reach. Oh yah you need two bowls and you can get them personalized. For example water on one and food on the other or your dogs name. Your dogs name bowl Water and food bowls

"Yawn, all this typing is making me tired." Your dog will get tired to, so you should get him/her a bed. You'll need to know how big your dog is so the bed will be just right. In taking care of a dog everything needs to be just right, but now back to beds. There are many types of beds some with rims some with out but you can choose. Also you need to make shire the bed is comfy so your dog dose not feel like he/she is sleeping on concrete! Lastly make shore that your dog can get up to the bed and not need a ladder like the princess and the pea or in the dogs case the dog and the high bed. Okay I think we're done... Oh wait you can find all this at a pet store! Dog bed with a rim Dog bed without a rim

Vet For most people going to the doctor is bad, it's the same for most dogs except with the veterinarian. You'll need to go to the vet right when you get either him or her. Him/her will be checked by a vet to make shore he/she is healthy. After that first checkup your dog will need one once a year. Also when your at a checkup you can ask about a micro chip. The vet will insert the micro chip into your dogs bottom neck. Oh yah I almost forgot, this will not hurt your dog! Why you may want a micro chip is if your dog gets lost and another vet finds him/her then the vet will scan the place that your dog has the chip and know how to find you.

Now we have to get into more serious things because not all visits to the vet are for check- ups and micro chips. First let's talk about if your dog is hurt of sick. If your dog is hurt it will either be acting strange, limping, bloody, or makes a very high pitched and loud squeak. If your dog is acting strange then call the vet and tell them your dogs symptoms. Next if your dog is limping then the problem is probably in one of the four legs. To find out where the pain is, gently lie the dog down and gently feel around on the legs, gently, until he/ she either flinches or makes a squeak, make shore you do everything gently! After you know were the problem is then call the vets office and they can help you. If your dog has a leg problem then trie not to let hem/her use that leg. Now let's talk about something that is sort of disturbing to me. If your dog is bleeding. If he/she has a little cut then get a wet tissue of cloth or something that you could dab with that wouldn't hurt and absorbs liquids, then dab the spot that's bleeding gently and quickly grab a phone and call the vet. Oh yah, by the way, basically all these problems end with " then call the vet."!

"Squeal!" Wait... false alarm! That was just a little squeak so he/she is fine. If that was a long and loud squeak then your dog is probably hurt more. If you do hear a long and loud squeak then hold your dog close, but don't crush him/her, so your dog feels safe. After see if the injury is bad. If so then call the vet so they can help you more then this piece. Now, there is a time, a dreadful, horrible time, when your dog is sick. How you can tell that your dog is sick is if he/ she is scruffy, not eating or acting strange. If your dog is sick then leave him/her alone and make a appointment with the vet. "Scratch scratch!" Your dog may have fleas. If so, your dog will be scratching a lot that could lead to hair loss, also inflammation or skin infections. Another little bug that could hurt your dog is worms.

There are many different types of worms such as Round Worms and Tape Worms. These worms live in your dogs stomach and can make your dog very ill which could lead to death. Me and Katherine Starke, Author of Dogs And Puppies, both know that when your dog has worms "It might eat more but loose weight at the same time." The last little bugger I'm going to rite about now is ticks. You do not need to go to the vet if your dog has a tick! You can get the tick out your self. Just get tweezers or a tick spoon and pull the tick out your self, just don't use your hands. Once you get the tick out put it in vinegar to kill it. Tick spoon Tweezers

Walks "Ding ding" time for a walk. Your dog may tell you that they need a walk or exit size by ringing a bell. There are many ways your dog can tell you. For instance my grandmothers fog uses a bell but my dog holds up his leash. Other dogs may run to the door. My friends both have dogs. For one of my friends his dog goes crazy because she wants a walk. For the other friend, she holds up her dogs leash, and if her dog comes her dog wants a walk but if her dog doesn't come her dog doesn't want a walk. Next going on a walk is a good time to use the collar and leash. Clip clip the collar on your dogs neck, remember from supplies nat to tight and not to loose. Then clip the leash on to the ring that has the dog tag and then your all ready. Leash and collar on a dog

Where to go you ask? We'll I recommend a big open urea like a field or maybe a park. The street will do but only for going to the bathroom, not really for exorcize and play. If you find a big open urea up I can bring some toys to play with. The toys should be bright collared or els your going to loose them. You can throw balls or stuffed animals or you can hide the toys so your dog has to find it but don't forget the hiding place your self. As your walking your dog remember it's not play time. Your dog will need to go to the bathroom. Bring doggie bags encase your dog goes poo. Pick the poo up quickly before the smell hits your nose. Trust me, it smells. For my dog there are two different walks. A poo walk and a pee walk. The poo walk is longer and the pee walk is shorter. You might have the same system as me or something like it. Dog incoming. This tip is for you. If you are near any dogs wait to pet it! Even if the dog is really cute, it still could bite. If your dog gets in a battle quickly pull your dog away and flip back to the vet urea and it can help you.

Sleep and Bath "Yawn... I'm tired but first I need a bed and a bath." Your dog will also get tired and need a bath. First let's talk about sleep. You should get a bed to your dogs liking. Also there are many ways to get your dog to sleep. You could pet him/her or lat them listen to music. That's pretty much it except dogs do not have pajamas! Next for the bath. According to Cesar Milan dog whisperer you can bathe your dog as much as once a week to once a month. My dog only has a bath when he needs it or has rolled in something nasty. For shampoo use dog shampoo or something mild that you might use for babies. A dog having a bath

Love "Good doggie good doggie!" Oh hi again. Don't worry we're almost done, you just have to read this and the conclusion and the bibliography! Well, your dog will need attention! This is a very important part to geeing a good dog owner. You can't leave your fog alone for a while of it will chew all of your stuff and start acting up! You need to cuddle your dog and be affectionate! Someone playing with their dog

Conclusion "Yay! We're done!" Now you know how to be a good dog owner and a doge best friend! It will be hard at first but once you get it down, it will be a pice of dog food!
