Our annual Texas Healey Roundup for 2016 occurred April 1, 2 and 3, in Boerne. Bonnie Ayer actually found the place for most of our guests, whereas Jim and I have lived here 14 years and had no idea the individual houses existed! On Friday the first, the day started out sunny, but not for long. Before we had even left for Boerne, it not only rained, hard, it hailed. That eliminated showing Healeys on the grassy plaza in the square. Fortunately, one block north there was parking. Around noon people chose various places for lunch, registration was at 3:00 p.m. Gradually, we began seeing lots of friends arrive. Friday evening Bonnie had arranged a shuttle to take people back and forth to a place called RANDOM, a ranch with several different types of food trucks with several different kinds of food. Friday had not only rained and hailed, it turned cold, and I mean cold so Jim and I drove home (7 miles) and picked up one leather coat (mine) and Jim threw a coat in the back of the car. However, when we got to RANDOM, we ate in an old, interesting house! Silly, huh! Who ever had made up the nametags had a sense of humor, for, on one side, our names were spelled correctly, the other side, backwards. While at RANDOM, I went over to visit my friend, Hazel Klein, only to discover the people at her table thought the tags were a misprint til I said APRIL FOOL! Saturday was sunny and warmer and started out with the popularity show. Ron Borden had arranged to have a band play during the show. The band is the oldest German band outside of Germany. In the afternoon, the rally began, also laid out by Ron. After the rally, the gymkhana was held at the First Baptist church. Dinner was held at the Longhorn, in Boerne. Jim Richmond, being RUMBLINS Page 5 of 9 April 2016
president of our club got up to talk about the cars, mentioning that there are fewer and fewer diamond in the rough cars, to which Karen Gilleland said you haven t seen mine, Jim. Later, Charlie O Connors, also from our club, stood up to talk about the Fisher House and all monies would be appreciated and before even Charlie knew it, Karen Gilleland grabbed a bag and told everyone that they must all at least have a dollar on them, and went around collecting bills from almost everyone. If you didn t have a dollar she told the room! Sunday, brunch was also held at the Longhorn, ending with good-byes from friends. Results from Austin Healey Roundup #36 on following page... If you know of a Healey that might match Abed's desires, please contact him at (503) 481-2234 or email him at trends2012@live.com Charlie O'Connors has a pair of rubber floor mats w/ah Logo.
