LIVESTOCK A copy of the 2018 State Rules for California Fairs may be obtained from the County 4-H Office, FFA Advisors, Redwood Acres Fair Office, or by visiting the California Department of Food & Agriculture, Division of Fairs & Expositions website: http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/fairs & Expositions/Fair_Information/State_Rules_for_California_Fairs.asp LOCAL JUNIOR RULES Exhibitors must have entry form, first aid, medication form, and bill of sale turned in to be able to show/sell. 1. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: Proof of ownership for required number of days (60 days) must be received with the entry form. Photocopies of the BILL OF SALE must show the date of purchase and the seller's signature. 2. INDEPENDENT EXHIBITORS: Junior exhibitors, not affiliated with an organization, entering in an Open Junior Livestock Division, must meet the following requirements: Small animal exhibitors must be at least 5 years of age (or accompanied by a 9-19 year old exhibitor) and must not be older than 19 years of age on the first day of the fair. Large animal exhibitors must be at least 9 years old and must not be older than 19 years of age on January 1st based on a calendar year. 3. CAMPING: Junior exhibitors who have written permission from parents on file in the Fair Manager's office may stay in the livestock designated camping area in campers or in trailers, if accompanied by an adult. 4. CAMPING: Each camper or trailer that houses Junior exhibitors must have an adult chaperone over 21 years of age who is directly responsible for the Juniors. 5. CAMPING: At no time will small children be left unattended in trailers and campers. The Ninth District Agricultural Association assumes no responsibility for those staying on the grounds. 6. BARN CURFEW: All Junior exhibitors must be out of the livestock area each night by 10:00 p.m., with the exception of those exhibitors directly caring for animals and having written permission of the Livestock Superintendent. 7. CODE OF CONDUCT: At no time will Junior exhibitors have any illegal substance in their possession or be under the influence of same. Any violations of this rule will be subject to disallowance of premium awards, disqualification from show(s)/auction and removal from fairgrounds. 8. CODE OF CONDUCT: Junior exhibitors will use discretion in conduct at all times. Loud and abusive language will not be tolerated at any time. 9. SALE OF EXCELLENCE: The Redwood Acres Fair Sale of Excellence requires that each exhibitor selling in the auction MUST sell one luncheon ticket PER MARKET ANIMAL ENTERED IN THE FAIR. Exhibitors failing to comply with this rule will have a $25.00 fine taken from their premium check. Tickets must be turned in by weigh-in day of fair, Wednesday, June 20 th 2018 between 2-8 p.m. to the Livestock Office. 10. WEIGH-IN: All animals requiring weight certificates must be weighed between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm on weigh-in day, June 20th, 2018 in the weighing area. Only one weight per animal per exhibitor will be accepted. All animals will be weighed dry. All weights are considered official at the time of weigh-in. Overweight animals WILL NOT be sifted at the scale. See each species department for auction minimum weights for auction sale qualification and maximum weights paid. 11. ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION: All breeding animals entered must be marked with permanent identification, either a tattoo or brand. Actual tattoos and/or brands must correspond with what is stated on the entry blank. 12. ELIGIBILITY: Only Juniors eligible to show in the Junior Department may show animals. Juniors, who for extraordinary reasons (emergency situations)), cannot show their own animals must make arrangements for their care and showing that are acceptable to Fair Management or premiums will be withheld. Fair management must be immediately notified in such a case for improvement. 13. ANIMAL GRADING: It is the intent of the Division of Fairs and Expositions that the quality standards established for market animals be maintained. Therefore, classifications will be subject to change in the event there are changes in Federal Grading. 14. SALE OF EXCELLENCE: 10% commission will be withheld from each animal auctioned to assist in covering expenses of livestock department.

(707) 445-3037 1. ENTRY FEES MUST be submitted online with entries. No stalls or pens will be assigned to any animal in any division until proper entries are made. 2. ADMISSION & CREDENTIAL passes/packets will be available at the Livestock Office as follows: JUNIOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS: One (1) wrist band pass at a cost of $5.00, to be paid with entry form and entry fees. **LIVESTOCK EXHIBITOR'S Immediate family will be allowed into the fair free (Parents, Grand Parents and Siblings ONLY- PLEASE SUBMIT A LIST OF ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS TO YOUR LEADER AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START OF FAIR. MAXIMUM NUMBER PER FAMILY IS 8. PARKING PASSES: A limited number of parking passes will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Vehicles with disabled plates or persons with issued disabled identification will have priority in purchase of parking passes. Parking pass $25.00 and covers all fair days. All other vehicles MUST BE REMOVED from the grounds by 9 a.m. each day of fair. CAMPING: LIMITED Spaces are available for livestock exhibitor families with self-contained trailers, RVs or tents at $60.00 per space. Limited water hook-ups are available. It is advisable to reserve camping spaces early. You must pre-register at fair office before trailer arrives. The Fair is not responsible for damages or theft while camped on the grounds. 3. STOCK TRAILERS/TRUCKS: Must be parked in the designated area. 4. ENTRY DEADLINE: all entries are due online by 05/20/18- NO EXCEPTIONS 5. ANIMALS RELEASED: June 24, 2018 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. if animals are not removed by 11:00 a.m. (due to safety reasons) animals may not be removed until 3:30 p.m. NO PREMIUMS will be paid on animals that are in violation. 6. STALL CARDS: Exhibitors of livestock MUST display, over each occupied stall or pen the name, breed and age of the exhibit and the name & 4-H club or FFA chapter of owner should also appear on each card. Redwood Acres will furnish stall cards. 7. ADVERTISEMENT: No non-sale advertising for the sale of any livestock animal may be present until the Sale of Excellence is over. 8. REGISTRATION PAPERS: All registration papers for animals exhibited in either Senior or Junior purebred livestock classes must be checked in with Livestock Clerks, at the Livestock Office, by 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 20, 2018. 9. BEDDING: Exhibitors in all livestock departments must furnish their own feed for animals. The Fair will furnish the first bedding only. Only shavings are approved for use in the pens. 10. State Rule: #VII, Livestock & Horse Exhibits -Other, #31-If an infraction of this State Rule has occurred, the Livestock Supervisor will warn the exhibitor and will document the exhibitor's name and date of the infraction and file immediately with the Fair Office. If a second infraction occurs, the Livestock Supervisor then has the authority, and will immediately disqualify the exhibitor from the show. 11. ANIMAL ENTRY CLARIFICATION: Each animal in the livestock classes must be entered and exhibited in the individual classes within its proper age class to be eligible as a member of a flock, group or herd. 12. ANIMAL/PEN CLEANLINESS: Exhibitors will at all times give the necessary attention to their exhibit. In all Livestock Departments, exhibitors must keep their livestock clean and in show condition. Stalls and pens must be neatly kept and supplied with necessary clean bedding, feed and water at all times. Pathways must be kept clean for the convenience and safety of the spectators. Blankets must be removed upon order of the Livestock Superintendent. Exhibitors failing to comply with this rule will not be paid the premiums awarded their exhibits. Water must be turned off when not in use. 13. PARKING: Vehicles must be parked in designated parking lots only. For the safety of exhibitors, fair-goers and livestock, owners of vehicles who do not have a trailer camping pass must have their vehicles off the grounds by 9am daily. If you are not moved by 9am, and your vehicle does not display a Parking Pass on your dash, you will receive a fine of $100.00 a second infraction and your vehicle will be towed at your expense. NO EXCEPTIONS.
14. WEIGH IN TIMES: Market beef, sheep, goats and swine entered by class number only will be weighed for weight classification on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Goats, Swine & Sheep will weigh from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Beef will weigh from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. 15. MARKET ANIMAL ENTRY RULE: Note: If you are unsure of whether your animal will make weight for the market class or is too heavy for Feeder class, you will need to enter the animal in the feeder and or the NOT FOR SALE class and pay the entry fee or the animal will be disqualified from competition. 16. WEIGH-IN (FEEDER ANIMALS): Feeder sheep, goats and swine entered by class number only will be weighed for weight classification on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Feeder beef cattle will weigh in from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. (See market divisions for weighing schedules) 17. UNIFORM: The required dress for this event is the traditional white pants, and white shirts. You may not show unless in uniform. 18. ETIQUETTE FOR SPECTATORS: Spectators are not allowed to engage in conversation with judges or ring officials while they are judging. If warned and it continues, exhibitor may be disqualified. 19. FAIR NOT LIABLE FOR THEFT: The Fair WILL NOT be responsible for any thefts but will use every precaution available to ensure safety of all exhibits, and will not be held accountable for loss or damage, regardless of the cause or extent. 20. LIVESTOCK RELEASE: Livestock will be released Sunday, June 24 th, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m. If animals are not removed by 11:00 a.m. animals may not be removed until 3:30 p.m. NO PREMIUMS will be paid on animals that are in violation of this rule. 21. ADA: If any special ADA requirements are needed by any exhibitor or Fair patron, the Fair must be given at least two weeks notice to make a reasonable effort to comply. 22. BARN RULE: NO FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED IN BARN AREA 23. DOGS: NO DOGS ALLOWED ON FAIRGROUNDS UNLESS THE DOG IS A PARTICIPANT OF A SANCTIONED FAIR EVENT. ***THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS SERVICE DOGS** JUNIOR LIVESTOCK DEPARTMENT Junior Divisions open to Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties ELIGIBILITY AND AGE REQUIREMENTS 1. FFA members may participate as members until the end of the calendar year following the year of graduation from high school. (For example, a graduate this year is eligible until December 31 of the following year.) 2. 4-H primary members must be at least 5 years old by January 1st of the 4-H program year (July - June), or in Kindergarten (NOT TK), to exhibit small animals approved by 4-H state policy. Junior, Intermediate and Senior members must be 9-19 years old on January 1st of the 4-H program year. Senior members may exhibit until the end of the calendar year in which they reach age 19. The January 1st date used is January 1st of the 4-H program year (not calendar year) in which the Fair dates fall. 3. Independent exhibitors must enter an open Junior or Independent class unless one is not available. If an open or Independent class is not available, Junior exhibitors may enter an appropriate 4-H or FFA class. Independent exhibitors must be at least 9 years old and must not be older than 18 on January 1st, based on a calendar year. Juniors who have been FFA or 4-H members within 60 days prior to the Fair are not eligible to compete in that project as Independent Juniors (120 days for market beef & horse). A 4-H member may exhibit in an open junior class if that exhibitor is not, or has not been, enrolled in a 4-H project that pertains to that exhibit. Independent Juniors entering market animals must provide Fair management with a picture of their animals, and permanent tag and/or tattoo information 120 days prior to Fair for beef. and 60 days prior for sheep, goats and swine. 4. All Junior exhibitors MUST have On Grounds supervision by responsible adult over age 21. Note: All Youth Must Be 9 Years Old On January 1 Of The 4-H Year To Exhibit Animals, Except For Dogs, Rats, Cavies, Rabbits, Pygmy Goats, Cats, Mice, Small Poultry, And Therapeutic Animal Projects. Danish System of Judging The Danish System of Judging is based upon established standards of quality for each type of product. In this
system each exhibit is judged according to how well it meets that standard rather than how it compared with other exhibits. In all Junior Departments using the Danish System, the following guidelines shall be used by judges. REDWOOD ACRES FAIR SALE OF EXCELLENCE Sponsored by the Junior Livestock Auction Committee Saturday, June 23th, 2018 Humboldt Raised Jr. Livestock Dinner - 4:00 p.m. 5:30 p.m. near Judging Pavilion Auction 6:00 p.m. Cow Palace Redwood Acres Fair is pleased to announce the return of the Redwood Acres Fair Sale of Excellence to be held in conjunction with the Redwood Acres Fair. The auction will be held on Saturday, June 23th, 2018. ALL SUPREME CHAMPION AND RESERVE SUPREME ANIMALS (SMALL AND LARGE) MUST SELL. IF YOUR ANIMAL (SMALL OR LARGE) IS NOT A SUPREME CHAMPION OR RESERVE SUPREME CHAMPION YOU MUST PICK ONE SPECIES TO SELL AT THE SALE OF EXCELLENCE. IF YOU HAVE A SUPREME CHAMPION OR RESERVE CHAMPION YOU MAY ALSO SELL ONE OTHER SPECIES. ONE ADDITIONAL SPECIES IS THE MAXIMUM NO MATTER HOW MANY CHAMPIONS YOU HAVE. A MAXIMUM OF TWO ANIMALS TOTAL PER EXHIBITOR MAY SELL. Dinner tickets are available from Junior Livestock Auction Committee Members, 4-H leaders, FFA advisors and at the luncheon. All market animal exhibitors must sell one luncheon ticket per market animal they enter in the fair, and turn the money in on or before weigh-in day. Tickets may be turned into leaders, the livestock superintendent or the fair office. Tickets must be turned in by 8 p.m. to the scale master or the livestock superintendent. The eligibility for sale of all individual animals will be determined by the judge. 2. Any withdrawal after the sale order is set will result in loss of eligibility to compete at Redwood Acres Fair in 2019. 3. ALL SUPREME CHAMPION AND RESERVE SUPREME CHAMPION animals will sell (UP TO 2 ANIMALS TOTAL). 4. If you have more than one animal and none are champions you must decide which species sells. Only one animal per exhibitor will sell at auction unless they have Supreme Champion or Reserve Supreme Champion.
5. Exhibitor MUST attend mandatory pre-sale meeting, or exhibitor will not be allowed to sell. This will be enforced. NO EXCEPTIONS. A mandatory roll call will be taken! Seller must attend the meeting. 6. No premiums will be paid for animals that are sold in the Redwood Acres Fair Sale of Excellence. 7. Premium money must be picked up in the office by July 25th, 2018. If money is not picked up by that date they will be determined a contribution to the program. 8. A 10% commission will be withheld from all Redwood Acres Fair Sale of Excellence checks to assist in paying expenses of the livestock division. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers of America is a national organization of students enrolled in high school vocational agriculture classes. The local unit is the chapter in each high school offering vocational agriculture, under the supervision of the agriculture teacher who is always the local chapter advisor. The state unit includes chapters of the state under the supervision of the Department of Education as represented by the Bureau of Agriculture Education Division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C. Every Future Farmer project in livestock, poultry, fruit crops, etc., is a part of the practical education of the vocational agriculture student who owns it. The program includes the improvements of agriculture leading ultimately to the ownership of farms and the development of good rural citizenship. Participation in Fairs and livestock shows is recognized as having educational value as well as stimulating for better results and finer projects under operation of the Fair's management. FFA RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Students competing in this division must be regularly enrolled, FFA members, and meet requirements, rules and regulation set up by the C.A.T.A. and State FFA Association. 2. All entries must be from projects carried on as part of the regular agricultural program and must be owned by the student. 3. FFA exhibitors will be limited to two premium awards per class. 4. Entries in this division will be limited to Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity County FFA members. 5. Exhibitors will be responsible for getting their animals in the show ring on time when class is called or forfeit their right to exhibit. 6. All FFA members MUST wear the official FFA uniform while exhibiting in the show ring.
4-H YOUTH DIVISION 4-H Youth Programs are non-formal, voluntary educational programs under the supervision of the Cooperative Extension Service of the University of California and the United State Department of Agriculture as part of Extension teaching. The projects exhibited at Fairs by members of these groups are the results of their efforts to learn improved practices in agriculture, homemaking, and related fields under supervision of volunteer adults. Youth may enroll on entering kindergarten, and may remain members until the end of the calendar year in which they graduate high school. Experimental and special programs may disregard these limits. (See Open Junior Divisions Rule #2). 4-H RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Any boy or girl regularly enrolled in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity County 4-H Club may exhibit in the various livestock divisions. 2. 4-H members exhibiting in any division must have good and regular standing in their 4-H Club. 3. Exhibitors will be responsible for getting their animals to the Fair and in the show ring on time when class is called or will forfeit their right to exhibit. 4. All 4-H members MUST wear the official uniform of their organization when exhibiting in the show ring. OPEN JUNIOR DIVISION (INDEPENDENT/GRANGE) OPEN JUNIOR DIVISIONS Livestock Departments Open To Humboldt, Del Norte & Trinity Counties Each entry in these divisions shall have been made or produced by the exhibitor. Entries shall be made in the Junior Department on the online entry system provided by the Fair. The signature of a parent or guardian is required. State and Local Rules apply to all entries. Scorecards in corresponding Senior and Junior Department classes shall be used unless otherwise provided in these divisions.
