MEET OUR JUDGES Dogs: Mr Martin Horgan (Aritaur) Martin started showing and breeding Dobermann s in 1997, and has bred and handled a number of UK, Irish, Dutch, Luxemburg, Belgian and International Champions. He last showed in 2012 but has remained within the breed, working dogs in Schutzhund (IPO). Martin has competed at the highest level within the UK with Lux Ch Aritaur Histabraq SchH3, who held his own amongst the GSD main stay of Schutzhund. In 2016, he had his first appointment giving CCs at BDDC, and earlier in 2017 he judged the French Dobermann Club Show (DCF). Bitches: Ms Janice Bannister (Janeryl) It was back in 1981 that I bought my first Dobermann as a jogging companion. We also joined a local Obedience Training Club and eventually we were introduced to the world of Dog Showing. In those days, my heart was in Obedience and Working Trial training. My first Dobermann was the first to qualify all the Dobermann Clubs Working & Obedience Tests, including the Manwork Test. She and her son excelled in Working Trials and both won Working Trial and Patrol Dog of the Year in the 80 s. There was quite a following in Working Trials & Obedience at the time and I was part of the Midland Dobermann Club Working committee, who regularly hosted working and Obedience competitions just for Dobermanns. Later, in partnership with my mother, we brought in a bitch from the famous Halsband Kennel and she went on to become our first Show Champion - Halsband Cansip. After a break from showing, I discovered the Japanese Shiba Inu and became besotted with these and now own 14. I have had great success in the show ring with Shibas, having bred and handled several UK Champions, a World Champion, two Reserve World Champions and a Crufts Utility Group winner. My first judging appointment was back in 1986 with an entry of 36 Dobermanns. In those days, Dobermanns were at their peak numerically. I gave my first set of CCs in Shibas in 2009 and I'm now approved to award CCs in 3 breeds and judge across the Groups. After a long association with this breed, it will be a great honour to award CCs in the breed for the first time today. Janice

A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Show. Similarly, if the Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Show. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best in Show. Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy. Withdrawal from other Competition: Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than Breed Classes prior to the competition for Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in order to remain unbeaten. Withdrawal from other Competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes prior to the competition for Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management. 14. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 15. It is not acceptable to handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. Exhibitors should note that such practices could constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 16. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 17. All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 18. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do s and don ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/ Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry. 19. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 20. No modifications will be made to the schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine press wherever possible. 21. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. 22. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any

time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). 23. A dog may be disqualified by the General Committee from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees. 24. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number. 25. Committee members may enter their dogs at this show but will not be permitted to handle a dog in the show ring. 26. All dogs are welcome on the showground but owners are requested to fill in an entry form as Not for Competition. DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows.
