Highest so far this week in the South West with several pens over 175p to a top of 180p for 2 pens of 44kgs at 79.20 from Messrs WJ Woodridge & Son of Bower Farm, Bulkworthy. 2 Rams 88 82 vendors realized 178p being Harold Martin of Yarnsombe for 44kg at 78.20 and Roger Vooght of Thorne Farm for 46.2kg at 82.20. 14 pens over 80 to a top of 82.20 for 3 vendors. 287 DRAFT EWES Smaller entry met a improved trade up around 5 a head. Baby Blue bulls (5wks) topped at 400 for Messrs Collins Partnership with a proper run from Messrs RD Richards of Laddock, Truro topping at 362. Messrs Goaman had an outstanding consignment of 30 day old Blues top at 300. Messrs Richards of Truro topped the Limousin bulls at 365, 340(x4) and 322 whilst the Folk 2 Folk sponsored Champion hit 312 in from KM Furse of Ashwater and went off to Messrs Davey of Kennards House. Hereford bulls topped at 210 for Graham Duke with the pick of 3 week old Herefords at 185 going off to Marwood. In the Angus pens 2 week old bulls topped at 225 for Colgrove Partnership with plenty between 130-170 for various vendors. A big number of Holstein bulls topped at 105 for LJ Tape of Hartland with others at 104 for Messrs Uglow, 95 for John Tallamy and 82 for Dave Johns of Wadebridge. Small and plain black & whites ranged from 2-40 and were difficult to place. A good line up of heifers sold to a better trade than of late with the best at 408 on behalf of Bokiddick Farm, Cornwall. Charolais heifers topped at 220 for Messrs Bellamy and Crocker of Mary Tavy with Steve Daniels of Torrington topping the Limousins at 240. Young 3 week old Angus heifers saw Charlie Withecombe take the top 6 places with the best at 122. Top 10 bull calves averaging 439.50 Top 10 heifer calves averaging 266.45 Top 10 Holsteins averaging 97.40 My thanks to the staff in the calf department who worked hard to ensure a successful sale. The winners of this week s Genus Vouchers for the highest priced calves under 42 days went to KM. Furse of Ashwater, for a Limousin x bull sired by Sarkley Goddard making 312. The heifer section went to Messrs JR & MJ Ovens with a British Blue Calf sired by Brookfield Dev making 265

And a very strong trade for the time of year. Those well presented cattle sold well from start to finish although few forward cattle on offer. Top call was 1090 for a Simmental steer from Messrs Bown of Okehampton with stronger dairy x British Blues from Mr G Leonard selling to 1085 with British Blues from Messrs Bearns of North Petherwin reaching 1080 for 5 with British Blue heifers from the same farm to 1065 with others at 1015. A large number of 14-16mth cattle sold well several bunches of Dairy x continentals saw steers 750-950 and heifers to 500-750. Natives again sold well especially for larger framed Aberdeen Angus and Herefords with several consignments over 900. Stronger native heifers sold to a top of 945 for 2 from Mr A Withecombe of Ashridge. Young continentals 10-12mths saw a strong trade for the steers, best dairy x Blues to 650, heifers to 550 and more of these would have sold well. Holstein steers to a top of 940 for a Friesian from Mr C Kivell of Buckland Brewer with plenty of other Holsteins with frame at 700+ and more could have been sold. This week s winner of the Lark Plant award for top price store cattle goes to Messrs Bown of Okehampton for a Simmental steer at 1090.

Native steers sold well Hereford steers from Mr S Hopper of Rydon realising 170p. More required! Top price this week was 111p for a South Devon cow from Messrs Barkwill Tavistock weighing 800kg. Older Limousin cows from Mr G May of Port Isaac and a 15yr old Saler 618kg cow at 94p.
84 DAIRY CATTLE - 11.00 am Auctioneer: Mark Bromell - 07966 430001 Mark Davis - 07773 371774 The early month dairy sale saw a fantastic quality entry of cattle forward that met a storming trade and one of the best seen so far this year with 6 selling at over 2,000 and a fantastic 1 st quality heifer average at 1861! Fresh calved Heifers topped at 2250 for an outstanding Papoose Heifer Oxenacres Altaceo Papoose calved mid-september and yielding 34Kgs on behalf Martin Webber of Drewsteignton, Exeter. The sale also saw the first consignment of the herd dispersal on Behalf of Mr MJ Grills & Son of Marhamchurch. This consignment of quality dairy cattle, that had calved since June had a flying trade. Heifers from this consignment saw the first lot fetch 2000 and topped at 2020 on two occasions both having calved early July and yielding over 30Kgs with other heifers from the same vendor realising bids of 2000. Andrew Bonner of Umberleigh almost rang the bell with a freshly calved Heifer yielding 31Kgs and sired by Cogent Azure which realised 1980. Cows topped at 2020 for Westlay Fiddler Blighty 5 a 2 nd calver calved mid-july and yielding 44Kgs as part of the Grills family consignment. Followed closely by 2000 for a superb 2 nd calver Trudnoe Gateau Flower 71 calved mid-september and yielding 35Kgs on behalf of JH & SM Dark & Sons, Helston who also sold another 2 nd calver Trudnoe hunger Humbug 25 at 1950. DR & LJ Johns of Bodmin sold an excellent 2 nd calver Tregoose Glenton Pandora 4 GP80 yielding 35Kgs at 1900 with DMJ & CI Petherick of Winkleigh also achieving 1900 for their Pedigree 2 nd calver Tenoaks Grafeeti Star. Whilst the flying trade for the exceptional quality of cattle forward saw high demand. Lower yielding and leaner sorts are being significantly discounted and in much less demand. With only a small entry of In Calf Heifers forward, trade still remained strong with the best topping at 1350 for Tenoaks Shamrock Carla a Heifer due to calf Late November to Ladys-Manor RD Grafeeti on behalf of DMJ & CI Petherick. KJ Waldon & Partners of Umberleigh also sold a consignment of In Calf Heifers topping at 1200. Heifer Calves September born topped at 200 on behalf of Andrew Bonner on two occasions.
