The trade across the board was up around 3 to 4 a head and averaged 207p. Numerous pens over 210p and to a top of 218p for three pens of 41 kilos 89.20 from John Turner, Queensland, Marhamchurch followed by Nigel Cleave, Pigsdon, Launcells who realised 217p for a pen of 41 kilos 89. Top on the day was 104 from Messrs Honey Bros, Marhamchurch. Several pens of Mules 75 and over to a top of 82 from Peter Heywood, North Tamerton. The lean and hill bred ewes were a flyer selling to 70. 363 STORE LAMBS A large crowd of perspective buyers present for the St Peter s fair special sale and a stronger trade was met across the board up 8 to 9 ahead on previous years. Top on the day was 66 for two pens of Suffolk x from David and Barry Walter, Colebrook, Stratton. Several other vendors realised 64 to 65. 146 BREEDING EWES A fast trade saw much interest in the strong well bred ewes, top on the day was 145 for two pens of Suffolk x 2T from Margaret Dennis, Boyton followed by Dave Lewis, Yeolmbridge who sold four pens of Suffolk x Mule 2T at 140.

Leading the trade this week was Messrs LJ Goaman & Sons from Hartland with his strong British Blue x bulls selling for 552, 548, 542, 520, 512, 508 and also leading the heifer trade with their British Blues at 475, 448, 435, 430, 420 and 415. Messrs FG Knapman & Co from North Tawton sold a smart Aberdeen Angus x bull for 505 with Limousin x bulls selling to 495 on behalf of Messrs LJ & LE Luxton from Milton Damerel and very young British Blue x bulls to 428 on behalf of Messrs JW & J Kirkbride from Tideford. Messrs JS & JM Tucker from South Petherwin saw their best young British Blue x bull sell for 425 with others to 390 for Messrs GF, JE & LJ Duke from Werrington. Strong Friesian bulls to 172 twice for Messrs JG & S Endacott from Halwill with others to 150 for Yeo Vale Farms, Bideford with all on offer to average 91.39. The top price heifers mentioned above Messrs FG Knapman & Co sold a good Aberdeen Angus x for 440 with young British Blue x heifers to 322 for Mr MJ Hopper from Whitstone. The 2017 pretty maid cup was awarded to lot 120 a British Blue heifer from Messrs TP & JH Isaac, Cornish View, Hollacombe reaching 300. The cup was presented by the Portreeve and Town Crier of Holsworthy. The winners of this week s Genus 25 vouchers for the highest priced bull and heifer calves was won by Messrs JR & MJ Ovens, Brendon, Halwill with a British Blue calf sired by Greystone Governor fetching 340 the heifer section was won by TP & JH Isaac, Cornish View, Hollacombe with a British Blue heifer calf sired by Newpole Easy making 300.

Top call of the day was 75 per a ton for the pick of three quality lorry and drag loads of barley straw on behalf of Jeff Jones of Bondleigh. Other similar loads went to farms in Week St Mary, Bideford and Morwenstow whilst a lorry load of wheat straw came down from Hampshire with Andrew Mansbridge and sold well at 66 per a ton. Next weeks entries include two lorry and trailers of new season barley straw direct from Kent (subject to weather conditions) CHARITY CORNER Kivells auctioneers have had a busy few weeks conducting several charity auctions and helping raise in excess of 16,000. They include a fantastic evening at Bowood Golf Club with Davidstow creamery raising a huge total for the Childrens Hospice South West. The total raised by Kivells for the West Country charities has exceeded 70,000 for 2017.

Aberdeen Angus steers from Mr D Grigg, Monkleigh sold to 1300 with others from Mrs Y Spencer, East Putford to 1220. Aberdeen Angus steers from Greadow Farms, Luxulyan to 1190, British Blues from Mrs S Stevens, Woolsery to 1220 others from Mr RJ Vanstone, Sutcombe to 1175. A shapely young Limousin steer from Mr Mike Kirby, Milton Damerel topped at 1180. A large entry of 18 20 month old Dairy x British Blue steers saw most 1050 to 1150 and many more would have sold. A consignment of 80 younger British Blue and Limousin steers and heifers from Mr Ben Boundy, Stratton saw an exceptional trade with 15 month old British Blue steers 940 averaging 907. A strong heifer trade with several 18 20 month old types over 1000. Mr Mike Kirby sold a 13 month old Limousin heifer at 1210 and a Limousin heifer from Messrs M & D Luxton, Josh to 1200. The cow section topped at 1550 on two occasions, one with a 2 nd calving Pedigree Marwin Cruise Jean 85 G78 sired by Wilton Cruise & yielding 41Kgs from Messrs G & R & M Davey, Okehampton & another pedigree Glendene Mahogany 39 yielding 42Kgs from Mr H Burrows of Woolacombe, who also saw his 4 th calving pedigree top at 1300 for Glendene Junction Dima. Dry cows reached a top price of 1200 which was achieved by Brian Bridgman from Shebbear. A large number of in calf heifers forward saw a very fast trade for the forward calving black & white heifers with a top price achieved of 1400 twice from a consignment selling on behalf of Messrs G & R Bailey from East Sussex due Sept. Further consigments from Chris Heard, Holsworthy averaged 1205. Grazing type/ x bred heifers saw a strong trade for close to calving heifers achieving a top price of 1280 from Graham Duke of Boyton. Smaller grazing types which were further away from calving saw an easier trade & looked value in comparison. A consignment of pedigree bulling heifers topped at 690 from Mr N Worden of Helston. A superb Pedigree Hereford Bull sold at 2300 for Paradise Lord Demetrios from Brian Bridgman, Shebbear.
