FDQ Ltd - Qualification Specification FDQ number Qualification title Qualification approval number (QAN) EQF Level Review date 233-xxx FDQ Level 2 Proficiency Certificate in Protecting the Welfare of Animals at Time of Killing xxx/xxxx/x 3 31 Sept 2021 Purpose overview This qualification assesses and confirms the competence of individual learners in the workplace in the protection of animals at time of killing. The units of the qualification must be selected to reflect the areas of work and the species which an individual is responsible for or working with in lairage and slaughter roles. It is ideal for those learners that are working with two or more species in an abattoir, or those that need to qualify as an Animal Welfare Officer (AWO). This qualification is recognised as the qualification certificate cited in accordance with EU Regulation 1099/2009 and, in particular Articles 7, 17, 21, 29 and Annex IV. The achievement of this qualification permits individuals working in lairage and slaughter roles to apply for a Certificate of Competence issued by: England and Wales, Food Standards Agency (FSA) Scotland, Food Standards Scotland (FSS) N. Ireland, Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) Ofqual purpose D. Confirm occupational competence and/or 'licence to practice' Sub purpose D1. Confirm competence in an occupational role to the standards required. Learners need to be 18 years old or over to take this qualification. Learners do not require any prior qualifications or experience to take this qualification, however supervision and training for a period of no more than 13 weeks is a requirement of current regulation. The qualification assesses and recognises achievement in the workplace. This qualification is a Certificate requiring achievement of a minimum of 13 credits. The qualification covers mandatory animal welfare knowledge. Learners may choose optional units to meet their learning, development and certificate of competence needs in areas that align to the certificate of competence requirements.
