Jakkals Jag 2 Roepers! Ok, I don t claim to know everything, but I know at least a few things that work, I recently went on a holiday in Free State ( Plat staat) and actually it was a bass fishing holiday BUT knowing me, I wanted to klap some dogs, so- I am an advocate of using two calls and have been using this style of hunting with great success. I was in Free State this past week and because of the rain we had limited time, BUT managed to gooi a few calls. Here are a few pictures of the weather! FREE STATE DECEMBER 6 th / 2010
SYSTEM USED I use a pretty standard system that works very well for me, and used it again in the 3 hours we had to call in. The reason I use it is jackal are pack animals, and respond to vocal sounds of other dogs, it causes confusion and when you create a story it raises interest higher than what a normal boring food call would have. (Proven on nearly every hunt!) Depending what time of year it is, is how I mix up sounds, but generally I use two calls, and into wind is food and vocal sounds, and another caller downwind is a barking call. The jackals shot in 3 hours ALL got the wind wrong because of this style confusion set, we shot 3 at the first spot and a lynx, next spot 2 small jackal, the next spot a pair of jackal and the final spot one jackal, total 3 hours in between the rain. ( Arlington Free State ). Here are 3 drawings to show my set ups and how we killed the jackal, NOTE the wind direction and the approach. This stand we shot 3 jackal and a lynx. RED line first jackal, blue line 2nd jackal, black line 3rd and green line the cat approach angles. NOTE WIND!! THEY ALL MADE A MISTAKE. Except the cat but they cant smell you anyway. STAND ONE 1st Jackal This one nearly jumped onto the Foxpro. X Food and vocal caller 70m Road 2nd Jackal Wind X Bakkie X Bark Caller 60m Cat 3rd Jackal This drawing shows that all the predators got the wind wrong, on this 44minute stand I used a Dying Jack sound on the foxpro caller, it is a small rabbit very distressed. The vocal bark was my territorial call and the OTHER caller 60m facing downwind was my very mild jackal bark thats not loud, just smooth sounding. SOUND Food caller / Territorial call 70m away into wind, 50m at an angle Bark Call 60m downwind, in line with bakkie Play distressed rabbit once 5 seconds, off a minute, do this 4 times, gooi territorial call, off wait minute and gooi food again as before, the cat was food after 15minutes.
Here is my Foxpro Spitfire on a stand to get good communication from the remote, second jackal ran past the caller at high speed. All the stands I used only three Foxpro distress sounds, not anymore, the DYING JACK and CHICKEN DISTRESS No1 and the Foxpro Antelope distress. This shows just how they make mistakes, it was a female and two males. This was an incredible stand, to kill 3 jackal in 44 minutes, what can I say it was fun. The only problem with this kind of hunting is everytime you must walk far to place two callers and then again afterwards! This stand we used a chair in the field it worked like a dream. Just must prey the man with the bakkie doesnt forget to fetch us I know that I am repeating myself but this is a stand I will never forget it was awesome.
Here are the 3 dogs mentioned in the story above. Operating like this for several years has told me it works, using a system of two callers, giving a jackal a story and using his language and appealing to his appetite does work, I have used this now EVERY time in Free State also, and have taken scores of jackal with this system. Go to this link, it explains in detail. http://www.africanpredator.com/secret.pdf In this photo the Spitfire stands on a tripod, and the Fury is on the ground, the Fury pics up easily and far range also, I love this caller, it has killed a ton of jackal, I think it has called in the most of any other caller I have used thus far, I am aware that its the user not an electronic caller that brings results, BUT it definetly has helped a lot. If you want to learn more get this new DVD, it has all secrets revealed, very interesting viewing, but see this link. http://www.africanpredator.com/art_geheime.html
STAND TWO This stand was in a Blesbuck camp, next to the sand road was a jackal proof fence, the hill sort of ran upwards. Jackal showed eyes on top of hill top RIGHT, he ran down left to caller. After looking at our direction for about 2 minutes. Jackal in GREEN Shot 30m from us. JACKAL EYES x ABOUT 350M AWAY Wind X Food / Territory call X Bakkie just off road WIND X Bark Call This stand we waited 15minutes, I played the ANTELOPE FAWN sound here, another Foxpro sound, 5 seconds on, off 2 minutes, after 5 I gooied a territorial call, and food again, then a bark on the other caller with the wind. SOUND Food caller / Territorial call 70m away into wind, 20m at an angle Bark Call 60m downwind, 30m at 45 degree angle from bakkie Play Foxpro Antelope fawn once 5 seconds, off two minutes. The gooied territorial call, off wait minute and gooi food again as before, jackal appeared after 15minutes. It helps a lot using the same sounds as the game in that area, this time an antelope worked like a charm here, the jackal first stood watching our direction then ran down the hill with his afterburner on, but again a two call set up worked and again he got the wind all wrong.
STAND 3 This was another classic example of a jackal making a mistake and creating stories does help. Here we pulled off the road, and parked next to the fence, the jackals ran in and thats that. Played the same style as the first hunt. Pair of jackal ran in X Food / Territory call Wind Bakkie Shot both 30m away X Bark Call This stand again shows another pair of jackal that got it all wrong, We found one of the jackal the next day, the other one was found the same evening, here is that one the next day. We had the family all looking for the jackal, but found him.
This is a very good example of causing confusion to trick jackal, we killed 8 jackal in total, a few we caught in the open on a field, small young ones ( maar hulle raak groot!). Use 2 callers get my new DVD it explains all the important topics in detail. Jakkals groete Gary
