This is a fundraiser for the Lioness which helps maintain their club. The menu is Cooks Choice. Come down to our general meetings, have dinner and participate in the club activities! Looking forward to seeing more of our members on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month. We have a lot of fun at our meetings with activities and special tricks by our Tail Twister, Lion Linda Saala. MEMBERSHIP CORNER Lions International has designated October as New Membership Growth Month. It s a great time for us to grow our club and earn special recognition when you do! 3 LION CINDI FITZGERALD, CHAIRMAN OF THE C.C.I. PROJECT FOR THE FOOTHILL LIONS CLUB PRESENTED AN OUTSTANDING PROGRAM FOR OUR GENERAL MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 4TH. LION DON ALLEN OF OAKDALE PRESENTED A VIDEO OF THE TRAINING PROCESS FOR THE DOGS OF THE C.C.I PROGRAM (CANINE COMPANIONS FOR INDEPENDENCE). LION DON BROUGHT A LAB PUPPY WHICH WAS IN TRAINING. LION DON EXPLAINED THE TRANSITION FROM TRAINING TO GRADUATION OF THE C.C.I. DOGS BEFORE GOING ON TO THEIR NEW HOMES WITH THE QUALIFYING RECEPIENT OF THE SERVICE DOG. THE MEMBERS HAD A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROCESS AND KEPT LION DON PRETTY BUSY ANSWERING QUESTIONS. A LOT OF WORTHWHILE INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED. LION CINDI HAS PATCHES AND PINS FOR SALE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE C.C.I. PROGRAM. THE PATCHES ARE $3.00 AND THE PINS ARE $5.00.. THESE ARE REALLY NICE ITEMS AND YOU WILL BE PROUD TO WEAR THEM ON YOUR VEST. LION SIERRA S DAUGHTER, KARINA, WAS THE OFFICIAL PUPPY-SITTER FOR THE EVENING. THIS SWEET PUPPY BEHAVED SO WELL AND WAS DELIGHTFUL. LION CINDI AND HER TEAM WILL HAVE MANY OTHER EXCITING PROGRAMS TO SHOWCASE THIS PROGRAM IN THE FUTURE. IF ANYONE WISHES TO BE A PART OF THE C.C.I. Congratulations to these Lions for their years of service.

5 IT IS WITH DEEP SADNESS THAT WE REPORT THAT LION BILL ROCHER PASSED AWAY ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 at the age of 93. LION BILL WAS AT HOME WITH HIS FAMILY AND PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY IN HIS SLEEP. LION BILL WILL BE MISSED, AS HE WAS MUCH LOVED. HE HAS BEEN LAID TO REST NEXT TO HIS BELOVED WIFE, MINN ROCHER AT PEORIA CEME- TERY. SUNSHINE CORNER LION DIANA WHEELER IS OUR SUNSHINE CHAIRMAN PLEASE CONTACT HER AT 741-1502 WITH INFORMATION ABOUT OUR MEMBERSHIP. As noted above the death of Lion Bill Rocher has hit a lot of us very hard. We are grieving with his family! Lion Steve Ball is still undergoing medical treatment and we need to send him our prayers. He looked pretty strong at the general meetings. Lion Pete Contreras recently lost his father who lived in Southern California. Let s send him our thoughts and prayers in this time of grief.

7 GEN. MTG. 9/4/14 Minutes Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm. Pledge Lion Kim, Prayer Lion Gertie, Song Lion Joni. Lion Chris Beerman, acting Tail Twister Introduction of guests: Karina, Lion Sierra s daughter, Tammie Edwards, Daniel Ball & his young son, Liz Thomas, wife of Lion Dave. Christy Contreras, wife of Lion Pete, Lion Don Allen of Oakdale & Olani (service dog in training) and 33 members present. Adjourned for dinner prepared by the Lioness. Thank you to Lioness for excellent meal. Motion to accept Treasurer s report as published in the bulletin Motion passed. Awards presentation by President Mary for years of membership to Lion Marilyn 15 years, Lion Joni 15 years, Lion Rex Patterson 20 years (not present). President Mary turned the meeting over to Lion Cindi Fitzgerald for the C.C.I. program, who introduced Lion Don Allen representing C.C.I. and Olani. Lion Don gave a video presentation of the training/graduation procedures for the C.C.I. service dogs. Lion Don explained the process for providing service dogs to qualified recipients and the training involved for both the dogs and their new owners. Lion Don is a puppy trainer and has trained 4 dogs so far in his participation with C.C.I. (Canine Companions for Independence) and the dogs are provided free of charge. A lot of work goes into the breeding, selection and training of these very special dogs. So far 105 dogs have been provided to Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. A new graduation class for the service dogs will be held on November 7th in Santa Rosa, CA. Thank you to Lion Don and Lion Cindi for an outstanding program. Lion Cindi & her team will be selling patches and pins to raise money for the C.C.I. program (patches are $3.00 pins are $5.00). OLD BUSINESS: Lion Sheri gave an update on the car show. Lion Sally read a article about the challenge for donations to the Eye Function to be held in October. Clubs challenged to donate at least $200. Tabled -Board. Lion Roberta the Peace Poster/Essay will have more information next meeting. Birthday dinner on Sept 13th with Chef Carlos preparing a Mexican dinner need help with rice & beans. @ 6:00 pm. Come down! NEW BUSINESS: 49 S vs Cowboys Football 9/7 @ 1:00 pm bar opens at noon with chili dogs/hot dogs at half time. Lion Peggy, Membership Chairman told us about the New Member Growth Month of October designated by Lions International. An article about this program is on page 2. 50/50 drawing won by Lion Jerry Sparks @ $40 AGAIN. Twister- $26.00. Introduction of 4 guests with 30 members present. Guests were Cheryl Theran, guest of Lion Sally, Karina, guest of Lion Sierra, Tammy Edwards, Don Meisner, uncle of Lion Carol. 30 members present. Lion Kim announced she was selling Lions pins (Lion Jean-Marie found them) @ $3.00 each. Adjourned for dinner President Mary said that Lion Carlos was absent so the Lioness needed help with the dishes (Lion Carlos usually helps). President Mary thanked the Lioness for the lovely dinner. Lion Howard Busch graciously thanked the Lioness for all they do for us. They cook our dinners and breakfasts, which is greatly appreciated. Lion Colleen asked about Lion June Brown. Information is that she wants to come back to California from Oklahoma if she is able. OLD BUSINESS: No Treasurer s report Available at board meeting next week. Motion to accept minutes in bulletin by Lion Peggy, 2 nd, Lion Colleen MSP The ladies bathroom is complete! Thanks to all the volunteers. Lion Mike - doors were designed by a friend named Roy Newland (I think). Lion Sally - report on the dues collection. 15 members are delinquent @ $720.00. Two member said they will pay very soon and Lion Darrell Carlson asked to be dropped. Further collection efforts are being made. Member will be dropped by October 31 s.t. as agreed upon by membership. Reminder of the All in Sightful Day in Redding on October 4 th. Shasta District Cabinet meeting is 9/27-28. Conflicts with our car show so no one planned on attending. President Mary - Volunteer bartenders need to put their hours on the calendar in the office. Birthday dinners - the last one on last Saturday, Sept 13 th.. Lion Sally talked with Lion Bill Rocher s daughter, Billie - Lion Bill has been laid to rest with Lion Minn at the Peoria Cemetery. Lion Bill died in his own home that he shared with Lion Minn, as that is where he wanted to be - so his daughters furnished the house somewhat and cared for him there. Lion Bill went to sleep peacefully with his family at his side. Sort of fitting!! Lion Sally update on the Weed fire. District Gov. Larry is working on getting emergency funds from Lions International to help our members and the people of Weed, CA. More information as soon as it becomes available.
