LAKE OF THE WOODS LIONESS LIONS LOW DOWN Volume 33, Number 7/8 January/February 2018 President s Corner By Lioness Lion Donalda Lovelace LOW Lioness Lions President www.lowlioness.org Greetings, I don t know about you, but this has been an unusually cold winter. Whose bright idea was to have heat pumps in homes this far north? Along with the heat pump running I had two fireplaces going almost continuously and was still cold. However, as I am writing this letter the weather is a balmy 72 degrees and I am loving it. Before we move on to the coming activities. I want to take my hat off to the Lionesses who worked at Kriskindlemarkt. Our Bake Sale, with tasty food and marvelous presentation was a smashing success led by Claudia Low and JoAnn Zwickl. The Kriskindlemarkt Committee headed by Karin Goetz and Gail Stoner had donations galore from members of our club. I arrived on Friday night and it was astonishing. Donations were under tables, behind tables and in committee members cars. The picture highlights only one of four shifts of Lioness Lions who worked at Kriskindlemarkt. In the picture you will see Lioness s like Gail Hardin, our LOWDOWN editor with fourteen years in as a Lioness Lion and Arlene Rich with not quite a year. Thank you all for making Kriskindlemarkt a smashing success. A place isn t a place until it has a bookstore. For many of us here at the Lake who love to read more than anything, we truly believe a good, well run bookstore can be a community asset. Once a month you will see 75 to 100 of your neighbors at the Ferris Building many comparing notes on their favorite books on our shelves. So many of them have developed friendships. You will see the same people month after month, first they start by buying books, then they return the next month donating those same books back to the bookstore for their neighbors and then finding many more to purchase. We have two rooms over flowing with books, the first with counters of books and the second with floor to ceiling shelves of books. A visit can find a treasure chest of ideas, worlds, romance and mystery all neatly catalogued waiting for the lucky LOW book lover to choose. And, of course, customers always leave with a home baked cookie! The ladies above are the long-standing crew for the committee, missing is Maureen Otero a much-valued member. We are so proud of their work and the contribution they make to the LOWA community. I hope that our Saturday, February 17 th Amore Dinner Dance is on your schedule. Tables are going quickly please reserve a spot. We also have a Craft Show and Flea Market on March 24 th. Yours in Lioness Lions Service, Donalda WHAT DO I BRING CHECKLIST? Wilderness Food Pantry At least 2 food items in a reusable bag or double plastic bag. If you have extra plastic bags at home and can double bag some, that would be great. It saves the workers time when they are helping the clients. Basket Items for Armore Dinner Dance See Pg. 4
