Cavaliers of the South 03/15/13, Williamsburg, VA Judge: Sheena Maclaine (Pennygown) Firstly I must thank the Cavaliers of the South for inviting me to judge at their Spring Speciality and for the exhibitors for bringing their dogs for me to have the privilege of going over. There was mixed quality but the top places would give the best a run for their money anywhere in the world. I was very impressed by the beautiful eyes I found myself commenting on it in many of the critiques for which I make no apologies I only ask that you breed carefully and don t lose them! As in the UK croups and tails will need to be worked on the first thing you see as they come into the ring. In the main the wholecolours were disappointing with some exceptions that stood out from the crowd. Whilst my stay this time was somewhat brief it was very enjoyable and the Club s hospitality second to none. We managed to see Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown and were spoiled by seeing a Military through the Ages exhibition at the Jamestown Museum which is only staged one weekend in the year we got lucky! Junior Puppy Dog (3) 1. Blackfire Exit Poll (Weidig/Kennedy) 5 month well broken Blenheim baby in this class. Correct shape and lovely size for his age. Correct lay of shoulder, good hind angulation, well balanced all through, carrying his tail straight off his topline, he moved soundly in front and behind. 2. Aldachell Olympic Gold (Land) 8 month well broken Blenheim, heavier in bone than my winner. Excelling in neck with good shoulders and topline. Tight underbite, beautiful large, dark eyes. Lacking in show personality which I hope will come with experience as it spoils his movement. Coat a little unruly for a baby and needs to be brought under control sooner rather than later. Spocky V.H. Lamslag at Merrychase (Gordon) 8 month Blenheim, not the balance of 1 and 2 as a little straight at shoulder and rear. His underbite is unlikely to correct as visible without looking at teeth. All the show personality that number 2 needs and totally in tune with his handler! Senior Puppy Dog (6) 1. Marshelle Xtra Bold (Stout) 10 month attractively marked rich chestnut Blenheim, of correct size. Very eyecatching showy boy excelling in neck and shoulders with super topline and tail carriage. Lovely dark eye and pigment, a little narrow in foreface but head should continue to develop. He did not disappoint on the move, covering the ground with drive. Best Puppy Dog 2. Dreamvale Tri Your Luck (Parker) 10 month Tricolour with rich tan, smartly marked over body, a little narrow in blaze. Another with good topline and tail carriage, he moved soundly. 3. Jalesto Super Trooper of Sumara (Gentil) 11 month handsome Ruby with lovely rich fire colours. Large dark eyes and superb pigment. Almost too mature in body for his age, he is not a big dog but appeared a little heavy. He has a lovely expression when he stops panting. Another sound mover. 4. Blackfire Room Service (Hess/Kennedy/Weidig) Smart tricolour that needed time to settle. He needs to use his lovely ears to his advantage as set rather low. Gentle head with dark eye and pigment. Lacked any enthusiasm on the move which spoils his outline. Graduate Puppy Dog (2) 1. Harana Shakin Stevens (Bucy) 13 month handsome Ruby of lovely size with good bone all proportionate and well balanced. Doesn t stand with good topline on the table, but carries himself well on the move, tail a little proud. Lovely gentle head with dark eye and very sweet expression. Best Ruby in Show 2. Royalmark Crystal Blue Persuasion (Barrett) 16 month gentle Blenheim boy, not quite as masculine as winner, with a super topline that could carry a tea tray! He moved with drive behind, a little wide in front. Novice Dog (2) Not the strongest class. 1. Denham Black Jax (Gear) B/T of nice size. A little short in foreface for me but lovely dark eye and pigment. Needs to grow a quality coat. Very exuberant on the floor he won his place on his movement. 2. Oggbrae Don Giovanni (Bales) Well broken Blenheim with huge dark eyes carrying such a worried expression. He was in beautiful coat and beautifully presented. However his fears showed in his movement which was tight through the pelvis. I hope he gets over his anxieties and is able to settle to show to his advantage. Bred By Exhibitor Dog (6) Breeders can be proud of their efforts, a good class! 1. Ch Mimric Consensus, JW ( Hodges/Perkins) This Blenheim boy just oozes quality so very handsome, kind gentle head with lovely flat top skull, well set ears framing well cushioned muzzle; huge dark expressive

eyes, he just melts your heart. Compact shape, lovely size, correct lay of shoulder, good topline and so very sound on the move albeit a little over-excited by hot totty appearing in the final challenge! Winners Dog, Best of Opposite Sex, Best Blenheim Dog, Best Bred By Exhibitor Dog, Best American Bred Dog 2. Ch Piccadil Peppermint Twist (York) Blenheim, another super quality boy from the top drawer. A little longer over the loin than my winner but so sound on the move. Handsome in head with dark, double pigmented eyes and dark nose, unlucky to meet 1. 3. Avia Smooth Criminal (Poti) B/T with a wealth of raven black silky coat. Another who was a little long over the loin with not quite the topline of 1and 2 on the move, perhaps because he was a little lack lustre in show personality. 4. Tanglewood Rebellion (Saban/Fairchild) Ruby, sound boy with lovely dark eyes, disappointing pigment. He carried himself proudly with good topline and tail, moving soundly. Junior American Bred Dog (5) Another quality class. 1. Brookhaven Morgan at Lanmar (Hubbard) Suitably immature attractive Blenheim boy with kind head, dark eyes and pigment. He moved soundly in front and behind just lacking a little in animation. 2. Dreamvale Olivander (Hallsted/Sage) Blenheim boy with all the animation that the winner lacked! Up to size for me and yet to throw his fluffy puppy coat. Kind head with dark eyes and pigment. When settled he moved soundly with super drive from behind you could see the pads of his feet. 3. Mileslip Withalittleluck of Tailgate (Skidmore) Ruby with masculine head, large dark expressive eyes with double pigmentation so desirable. Lovely compact size and shape with super bone. Moving a little close behind. 4. Chadwick Snow Drift at Woodbury, JW (Redniss) Smartly marked well broken Blenheim with lovely pearly white colour to go with his rich chestnut. Head not in proportion to body, a little short in foreface and a little long over the loin. Well cushioned muzzle with lovely dark eyes. He moved well in front but too close behind. American Bred Dog (7) 1. Ingold Whispered Promise (Pickett) Well broken sparkly Blenheim boy, up to size, very animated and sound on the move. Gentle in head with well cushioned muzzle, dark eye and sweet expression. Carrying a fraction more in weight than he needs. 2. Nightingale Jackson Browne (Birmingham) Rich chestnut Blenheim, attractively marked. Sweet expression but could have a darker eye. Good spring of rib. Carries himself well and moves soundly in front and behind. 3. Brookhaven Jessie (Parente) Gentle headed Blenheim, a little short in foreface but such a sweet expression with dark eye and pigment. Heavily marked and would benefit from a white collar as he lacks a little in neck. He lacked a little in sparkle, not the drive of 1 and 2. 4. Chadwick Touch of Brilliance (Adamec) Blenheim, a little heavier in head properties with dark eye, would prefer darker pigment. Good topline, he moved soundly but does not have the presence of my winners. Special Limit Blenheim Dog (10) 1. Bonitos Companeros Kaleo at Diorchaven (Bialek) Very glamorous Blenheim in profuse coat presented in tip top condition; he catches your eye as he enters and subsequently drives around the ring. Excelling in topline with tail that just continues the flow. Very pleasing in head with dark eye, handsome with sweet expression. In my final challenge for Winners Dog when you are at your most critical, I felt that he had an unusual combination of being a fraction long over the loin and a little short in neck which spoilt the overall balance. He is still a super quality dog from the top drawer. 2. Toraylac Bravado For Kean (Keane) Another quality Blenheim boy who moved so soundly keeping his steady topline and tail. Shorter in back than the winner, a little taller. He has a lovely masculine head with perfectly adequate eyes, just not as melting as the winner. 3. Miletree Carnival at Shirmont, JW (Henry) Lovely size Blenheim, smartly marked with dear face, dark eye and sweet expression, well cushioned muzzle. A little unsure of himself which spoiled the overall picture. 4. Almeara Kiss The Girls (Whitmire) Very handsome Blenheim boy with lovely head not dis-similar to the winner with a captivating expression. In beautiful coat and beautifully presented. Unfortunately he just did not have the hind movement of winner. Special Limit Tricolor Dog (4) 1. Ch Angel s Pride Love Vegas of Sumara (Gentil) Attractive well broken glamorous Tricolour in a lovely compact package. So gentle head with more room for maturity, full dark eye and pigment. Good rich tan. Correct lay of shoulders, good neck and rib cage. He moved soundly covering the ground. Best Tricolor in Show 2. Dreamvale Smart As The Dickens, JW (Warshaw/Sage) Another handsome Tri with gentle well cushioned head. A slight dip in topline after the shoulder. He moved better in front than behind. 3. Darane Boys Don t Cry (DePhillip) Very sound Tri, stronger in head than 1 and 2 and has an unfortunate expression due to

showing white of eye. A solid boy who moved soundly. 4. Broadbay Boogie Woogie (Meredith) This well broken Tri has an unfortunate way of holding his ears further back than desirable which spoils his expression. Not as soft in muzzle as above but lovely dark eyes. Starting to show his age and somewhat lazy on the move. Special Limit Ruby Dog (4) 1. Windham Lost Sailor (McCauley/Hashagen) Ruby boy with gentle head, dark eye and kind expression. Nose pigment could be better. He has a lovely compact shape and although he could do with better angulation both at shoulder and rear, he won this class on his movement. 2. Autumnhill Spencer, JW (Weinstein/Parente) Slightly longer cast than my winner with a few Blenheim hairs on his head. Lovely warm dark eyes. A showy boy who moved soundly. 3. Tanglewood Scottish Affair (Saban/McDowell) Another boy in a longer mould with lovely vibrant reds coming through in his new coat. Upright in shoulder and not so balanced on the move. 4. Numen Bryan (Sage/Colbert) This boy was a baby in this class at 7 months. His head is yet to break and gain cushioning and he is up to size for his age. He moved soundly with super tail carriage coming straight off the topline. Special Limit Black & Tan Dog (7) 1. Mileslip Licorice, JW (Skidmore) Outstanding B/T in full coat beautifully presented. Dark eye and melting expression. Good shoulder and rear angulation, depth of chest and spring of rib. A real showman with driving movement, level topline that falls slightly at croup. He stood out in this class. Best Black & Tan in Show 2. Charma Mocha Java Too Hot To Handle (Perini) Lacked the presentation of the winner to draw my eye. Gentle head with dark eye and pigment. A little upright in shoulder he moved soundly both in front and behind. 3. Blackfire Simple Twist of Fate (McLaughlin/Kenny/Kennedy/ Weidig) Totally naked B/T with new silky coat coming through. Beautiful head with dark eyes and sweet expression, he moved soundly. 4. Darane Smooth Criminal at Nightingale (Mulligan) A gentle headed B/T with dark eye and soft expression. Would benefit from straighter ears rather than King Charles II s wig. A sound boy who moved better in front than behind. Open Dog (5) This was a hot class with winners going unplaced. 1. Ch Aranel Revalation (Wells) Blenheim boy of soundest construction with lovely bone. Captivating head with very large dark, lustrous eyes and needless to say melting expression. The area of black pigment for his nose is also huge. Beautiful ears to frame. Good reach of neck and shoulder placement and so sound on the move. Reserve Winners Dog 2. Bozi V.H. Lamslag (York) Classy Tricolor boy with lovely head in excellent coat and condition. Would prefer a darker eye and better tail carriage but lovely free flowing movement. 3. Ch Chantismere Cast A Spell On Corduke (Mulligan) Blenheim, larger than 1 and 2 but a handsome boy with masculine head. Dark eye, would prefer better pigment. Moved soundly in front and behind. 4. Ch Chadwick Scotch On The Rocks at Hudsonview, JW (Yassky/Glynn) Lightly marked Blenheim with super topline and tail carriage, he moved soundly. Not as masculine head as 1 to 3 but a quality dog all through. Senior Open Dog (1) 1. Deputy Copper of Monarch (Bellflower) Sprightly 9 year old Blenheim dog with kind head and dark eye; only his teeth giving away his age. He moved better behind than in front as he toed-in a little. Barely a grey hair! Junior Puppy Bitch (8) 1. Kean Ultraviolet (Keane) 7 month Blenheim that stole my heart and if I could have smuggled her home I would have done. She caught my eye as she strode into the ring. Well broken with exquisite feminine head, dark eye and pigment. Desirable arch to neck, correct shoulders, level topline and moved so soundly. Still a little raw to the whole show experience which denied her Winners Bitch but I am sure this place will not be denied her for long. Best Puppy Bitch, Best Puppy in Show, Reserve Winners Bitch, Reserve Best in Show, Best Bred By Exhibitor in Show 2. Nightingale Bewitching (Mulligan) 8 month Blenheim, very attractively marked richest chestnut Blenheim. Very feminine head with dark eye and gentle expression. Another sound mover unlucky to meet the winner. 3. Aldachell Olympic Flame (Curley) 8 month Blenheim in a chunky square frame in lovely size. Kind head with sweet expression. Unfortunate crest on back of her head. A showy girl enjoying herself. 4. Blackfire October Surprise (Weidig/Kennedy) 5 month Tricolor whose coat is spoiled by ticking. Good shoulder and rear angulation, moved soundly. Dark eye, a little harder in expression than 1 to 3 but a quality girl. Senior Puppy Bitch (5)

1. Piccadil Destined To Be Rich, JW (York) 10 month Blenheim, lovely outline and moved better as class progressed, with good topline and tail carriage. Feminine head with dark eye and pigment. 2. Lynsfaire Catch Me If You Can (Fairchild) Heavily marked 11 month Tricolor with nice outline on the move, very focused on her handler. She moved true in front and behind. 3. Nightingale Gold Digger (Mulligan) 10 month Blenheim, slightly hesitant bitch with feminine head that needs a little more cushioning. Dark eye and pigment. She moved soundly but lacked enthusiasm. 4. Chadwick Pinch of Snuff at Foxwyn (Baker-Fox) 11 month showy well broken Blenheim. Very feminine head with dark eye. A little upright at shoulder and still a little bum high at present, favouring her tail. Graduate Puppy Bitch (9) A very hot class. 1. Almeara Scrumpdillyicious (Whitmire) 16 month so very feminine Tricolor with softest expression, appropriately named. Good topline on the move and covered the ground well. Lovely bone, shoulder placement and rear angulation. Best Tricolor Bitch 2. Cobbhill Golden Marguerite (Brunson/Rose) 16 month heavily marked Blenheim, another quality sound moving girl with super extrovert show temperament. Kind head with lovely dark eyes and sweet expression. 3. Piccadil Gone With The Wind (York) 13 month Blenheim with eye catching markings. A little longer over the loin than 1 and 2 and a little upright in shoulder, however moved soundly. Very soft gentle head. 4. Harana Madonna (Bucy) 16 month Blenheim. This girl is up to size and was a little lethargic on the move. Pretty head with very large dark eyes, full generous muzzle. Novice Bitch (5) Disappointing class. 1. Linrica Sugar Baby (Hsiung/Liu) Blenheim, not the bravest soldier but all the elegance and won this class on her overall presence. Her front pasterns could be stronger. Kind gentle head with dark eyes. Good topline and tail carriage on the move. 2. Autumnhill Catching Fire (Parente) Ruby, gained her 2 nd place on her sound movement and lovely size. Exceptional rich colour, carried herself well. Just felt her expression was a little hard. 3. Sherah Fabulicious (Crommett) Pretty Tricolor with unfortunate underbite, nice size, lots of feathering. Dark eye and sweet expression. 4. Krystle With A Song In My Heart (Torgersen) Blenheim, just 7 months and up to size, I hope she does grow any more. Level topline, upright in shoulder, rather plain at the moment. Bred By Exhibitor Bitch (3) A lovely class. 1. Shirmont Apple McIntosh, JW (Henry/Dodson) Blenheim, so very feminine with dark lustrous eyes, a little worried in expression at times. Nice shape with good rib cage, excelling in topline with tail straight off, she moved soundly with drive, covering the ground. Coat not yet at its best. 2. Marshelle Cristal Rose (Stout) Lovely rich chestnut Blenheim who showed beautifully for her owner. Dark eyes that unfortunately shows the white of one spoiling her expression. So very sound moving and keeping her tail on the move. 3. Nightingale Walkin On Sunshine (Mulligan) Well broken Blenheim who appeared a little matronly next to 1 and 2. Gentle head with dark eye and eye pigment, could have a darker nose. She moved well and didn t stop wagging. Junior American Bred Bitch (7) 1. Darane All About Eve (Kates) 13 month well broken Blenheim, this mischievous monkey oozes personality, wagging the whole of her body! Good reach of neck. Feminine head with dark eye. Won this class on her balanced movement, lovely size and excellent hind angulation. 2. Chadwick Curiosity (Eckersley) 12 month well broken Blenheim with pretty long ears framing her feminine head, dark eyes. She lacked animation on the move but very sound. 3. Pinecrest Soul Sister, JW (Eubank) 16 month Blenheim, very feminine head with lovely lustrous eyes, so soft expression. Lovely topline standing, did not move as strongly behind as 1 and 2. 4. Licketysplit Maybe I m Amazed (Geoghegan) 12 month Blenheim, looked a baby in this class. Gentle face with dark eye, lacking in animation. Moved soundly keeping topline and tail. American Bred Bitch (6) 1. Lanmar Pometini (Hubbard/Beavers) Blenheim bitch of lovely size. Very feminine head, so soft, disappointed to discover underbite. Good neck, lovely topline and tail which she used to her advantage. A sound mover. 2. Primrose Hearts Afire (Lovett) Another pretty Blenheim with so sweet expression. She moved well. Coat lacking in final finish. 3. Wellsworth Feast Your Eyes (Wells) Solid Blenheim girl who would be more desirable in a smaller package. Very sound and showy, just needs her furnishings. A little masculine in head with very lovely eyes. 4. Truluv Giselle of Foxwyn (Baker-Fox) Pretty heavily marked Blenheim with dark eye and soft expression. Good reach of neck, level topline and tail carried well, just moving a little close behind. Health & Conformation Bitch (1)

1. Chadwick Winter Solstice (Eckersley) Tricolor bitch of lovely compact size, very feminine head with dark eye and soft cushioning. Good neck and shoulders, level topline falls slightly at croup. She moved well in front, was wagging so hard that it was difficult to assess her hind movement but excellent angulation. Special Limit Blenheim Bitch (1) 1. Clopsville Santa Ana (Rychlik) Petite pretty well broken Blenheim with feminine head, dark lustrous eyes, too short in foreface for me. Lacked the driving movement I look for. Special Limit Tricolor Bitch (2) 1. Darane Casablanca at Chewcreek (DePhillip) Small, well broken Tri balanced all through. Feminine head with dark eye. She moved better in front than behind, kept her tail on the move. 2. Blackfire Shows Class (Weidig/Kennedy) Another well broken Tricolour of different make and shape, slightly longer over the loin. Feminine head properties with cushioning, dark eyes. She moved soundly but tail was set on high and carried rather proudly. Special Limit Ruby Bitch (2) 1. Liane s Xaviera, JW (Poti) Very dark Ruby colour that positively gleamed. Up to size and a little masculine for me for a bitch. She moved beautifully in front but a little close behind. Excellent neck and shoulders, super hind angulation and lovely topline. Best Ruby Bitch 2. Grandville Butterscotch Kiss of Infinidad (Laliberte) This ruby was slightly out of balance, longer over the loin and a little short in foreface for me. Despite this a pretty feminine head with soft expression. Would prefer a little more angulation at shoulder and rear. Sporting a lovely wardrobe immaculately presented. Special Limit Black & Tan Bitch (5) 1. Piedpiper Queen of Clubs (Saban) Very sound B/T who won this class on her movement and balanced shape, she showed well with good use of her tail. A little disappointing in head, lovely dark eyes but a rather cross expression. Best Black & Tan Bitch 2. Fair Oaks Tomnee Calendar Girl (Meager) Preferred the head of this bitch to my winner, so gentle. Good neck and shoulders, just a little short on leg which spoiled the balance. A quality bitch. 3. Avia Logo (Poti) A pretty feminine head with dark eyes and gentle expression. Lacked the driving movement of 1 and 2. 4. Kalais Pirate s Booty (Hess) This black and tan had the richest tan colour, just a little naked in the clothes department. Good neck and excellent hind angulation, a little upright in shoulder and moving wide in front. So much fun with all the pizazz that many lacked. Open Bitch (1) 1. Ch Pinecrest Shirmont Moonlight Madness, JW (Henry) This glorious well broken, rich chestnut Blenheim may have stood alone in her class but stood out from the crowd in the challenge and epitomises the Cavalier for me. Totally in balance for shape and bone, attractive head properties with no exaggerations. Feminine, dark eyes, so gentle expression. Moved like a dream and the added bonus over the distracted dog for Best in Show shows attentively! Winners Bitch, Best in Show, Best Blenheim in Show, Best American Bred in Show Veteran Dog (1) 1. Deputy Copper of Monarch (Bellflower) 7 year old well broken Blenheim, still quite fit and moved soundly albeit a little close behind. Dark eye, pigment off colour and missing quite a few teeth for a young veteran. Veteran Bitch (1) 1. Ch Chadwick Bewitched at Blackfire (Kennedy/Weidig) 12 years young Blenheim bitch still keeping her topline on the move. A little wide in front but still driving from behind. Very feminine in head with lovely dark eyes, has not lost her cushioning and still has quite a few clean teeth! Best Veteran in Show Brace (1) 1.
